@TheMcSame Thanks for your suggestion.. I will try to make some new calculations on 5TB drives.. On the 8TB drives side I can find Seagates but for some reason I have had a very bad experience with them in the past and I cannot convince myself in buying them again. Do you think they are worth trying again? Are there any other brands that could be a good alternative? Thanks

@Altecice Thanks for your reply.. But if everything at the end is just marketing and I do not gain any specific advantage then something is wrong. For example: 6TB Greens are 216USD on Amazon right now while 6TB Reds are 243USD.. With a 10 disk RAID configuration, there is a 270USD difference (which is more than a free additional drive) and for what? Greens only have spin-down cycles which potentially could harm an array setup but those can be overcome with a script and they do not have TLER which in most household environments is not really such a big deal. What I mean, I really need a better justification to why I should be purchasing a +30USD drive instead of the normal greens. Thanks!

Hello all, I have read many posts about the different models of Western Digital drives and even though I understand the key differences between the drives and their specifications my question still remains unanswered.. the question is: are the differences really noticeable? Can the differences been proven by doing any type of analysis or benchmark? What I mean, why doesn't WD just release some LAB analysis showing that their drives have that extra lifespan due to strong anti-vibration mechanisms and others are quicker due to better performance in spin management or whatsoever? Is there any chance that LMG could consider doing a focus video going in dept on technicalities and proof something that really differentiates each WD drive from the other? I don't know, at the end of the day, I simply would like to know why I should RAID WD Reds and not WD Purples, not just because WD is suggesting it but because I can really see the point for why I should do it. If anyone can help me out on this I would be very happy! Thanks!

Dear members of LTT, I would like to request your support over this issue I am facing and to know your opinion and alternative solutions to can propose. Kind of short history: At the moment we are in a 25 user office with a 50MB Fiber Optic connection from Mobily (in Saudi Arabia). This connection comes with a default router from the company which has what I know to be a GIBC connector (hope it is correct), this means the Fiber optic cable goes directly into the router. However the router has very little settings and because I cannot apply any sort of limitations for the downloads and user restrictions we sometime face resetting and wifi dropping. Issue I believe could be limited consistently if I could limit the type of downloads (avoid torrents) and limit the type of devices to allow the connection (block phones). Now since we are transferring to a new office and it seems Mobily is the only provided supporting the area we are going to move to, we have planned to upgrade the connection speed to 100MB but this will not solve my main concerns. Also I was unable to find a professional router with a GIBC connector.. if you know any please suggest, we can also buy it online. I came up with this thought but I am not sure if it can be applied: What if I cannot a professional WAN Router after the Mobily router? Mobily router (with disabled Wifi) ---> ethernet cable to WAN Router (maybe Cisco branded with added security features) ---> cables to switched and Wifi AP Will it be useful to think to try to setup the network like this? I could apply all my filtering rules to the WAN router and hope to remove some distress from the poor cheap Mobily Router. Could you kindly let me know your opinions and suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I don't know.. i just feel SSDs are good in desktop and notebooks since they are most likely going to run an OS and will resist more shocks when handling them while on. I just don't feel the need of having an external SSD yet. Spec wise I already put what I access less on an external drive so for me even if it just a simple mechanical one I am ok with it.

I first started following Linus when he was at NCIX and discovered lately that he had this separate channel which was actually much better and funny keeping all the necessary information and specs I needed and adding some fun/jokes to the mix. I really enjoy your work and I do believe you deserve to be successful in this project. There aren't many others youtubbers I follow this much with the exclusion of Barnacles.
