Haven't looked into what the patents are yet but I am pretty pleased by this. Nvidia's lawsuit was stupid so it makes me happy to see them being punished for it.

That makes no sense, just because a product doesn't suit your needs doesn't mean it's useless, or that there's no demand in the market - that's just having a very limited vision and you should rethink how you perceive this scenarios, else you'll may become one of "those guys".

APUs deliver what CPU+GPU combos can't, and vice versa. Period.

Currently that's the state of NVIDIA - where they are buying and pressuring developers.

I don't get why there's no legal pressure on them - yet.

Well tablets and phones are about media consumption. Browsing web, reading docs etc. Watching a video. If that's all you do then ok. For many people it's enough.
Desktops are all purpose machines which can be used for content creation as well, not just consumption. They are also not limited by TDP and battery constraints which means they can be made much more powerful. They are also more modular and can be augmented with more peripherals for specialist applications.

You go NVIDIA! And keep locking them users up! When they'll change their minds they'll have so much proprietary sht they won't be able to - it works with Apple and you are learning that lesson well!

OpenMP (as its name suggests) is an open standard. Intel has a proprietary runtime for it. Microsoft has another. GCC and Clang both have open-source runtimes for it that work with x86, ARM, MIPS, and PowerPC.

OpenMP is a small layer of abstraction away from native threads, but it's enough of one to speed up development tremendously while not removing a significant degree of control.

http://bisqwit.iki.fi/story/howto/openmp/ (only up to version 3.x where currently OpenMP is on 4.1, but changes in 4.1 mainly apply to interfaces with accelerators.

This is it - let me just add another layer to this if I may, which is Consumers Misinformation and Media Role in Misinformation:
The hurge for content creation is so big and has such dyer consequences in it's quality, to the point that the media is completly fucking up public perception with shitty-ass click bait content.

Brands suffer from this Media ignorance. Consumers suffer from this Media ignorance.

You have people with no experience commenting on subjects that they don't fully understand, or simply don't understand at all, giving a sense of being experts in the way the express their oppinions - when they are basicly spitting out shit, and people who are already poorly informed are eating it and molding their own perception of the subjects.

For example, you have hardware reviewers/overclockers, making market analysis... who the fuck are these dudes to make such statements? People actually value their oppinions, and such "tech journalists" don't care if they are not the right guys to comment some subjects.

It's like the major problem we have here in the forum with @patrickjp93 , where a kid, with no experience and ignorant in alot of subjects, is spreading missinformation supported by lies.
This whole console war/ pc-vs-console/ and other click bait matters drive alot of traffic/clicks/views - and every shit is worth talking about, fueled by the sweet ol'ignorance.
Why should brands keep fueling it with their figures to be distorted by ignorant joes who instead of sticking to what they do best and leaving this market analysis to those who actually understand it?
You know what? Good for Microsoft.
You have this in alot of markets, GPU is another one close to this community, which is rotten with shills and toxicity that's putting alot of pressure on one brand (AMD Radeon) who actually delivers great products. Brands are also investing in this counter information by injecting "Native Content" cash, to fuel more ignorance.
    It's a shame.

bogus reacted to Mr_Troll in Omega driver 2.0 from AMD coming in November – Will Include Significant Updates to Catalyst
AMD preparing another iteration of Special Edition drivers – landing in Novmeber

This year’s ‘special edition’ drivers are expected to launch at the same time as last year, according to the report. Which means that we are probably looking at AMD making this a regular thing with significant improvements to the catalyst driver build, delivered yearly. Although it does beg the question whether AMD would specifically delay significant updates just to cash in on the PR resulting from a yearly event. While we do not yet have details on what exactly the update will deliver this time, we do have previous year’s iteration to form a benchmark.
Omega Drivers 2014 had a very wide variety of new features, from support 4K Virtual Super Resolution, to 5K Support, to Multi Monitor and FreeSync updates. The driver also included updates for Tress FX 3.0, HSA 1.0, CUDA 2.0 and CodeXL 1.6 as well as Mantle. It is worth noting that the primary purpose of the drivers was to eliminate the disparity (that existed at the time) between GeForce and Catalyst drivers. Since there is pretty much no disparity between the GeForce and Catlayst drivers currently, it’s pretty difficult to ascertain just what AMD will be introducing this time around; and since the driver is being specifically packaged as a ‘special edition’ driver, I have to assume that it’s worth the hype.

The official agenda for the last special edition update was quality improvements, performance improvements and new features. Assuming the new special edition drivers are similar to the Omega drivers released in 2014 (in terms of agenda) the only thing that really comes to mind (caution: speculation) is improvements and features based on DX12. The new API is pretty much the next frontier when it comes to drivers. The rules of the games are changing and whoever wins this one will get an edge for the next few years. Since titles with DX12 support are pretty few and most of it is uncharted territory, this is the perfect point in time to optimize drivers.

keep it up amd. your are doing a fine job with your drivers.
