Got my job to order me in a Shield 2.0, 9mm.  

The p938 is definitely an excellent little gun, though my own carry preferences trend toward striker or da/sa hammer guns over SA with a thumb safety, i'd probably still happily carry one if it was in my collection...though if I was buying a 1911 pattern pistol for carry it'd be a SW1911 9mm Pro Series
 
@kaiju_wars have you looked at revolvers at all out of curiosity? Since you're already leaning towards single stack, it seems like capacity isn't a huge factor for you, and the ruger lcr is a great carry gun. So is the s&w j-frame, though I personally hate how heavy the trigger is and think it's an unruly degree of snappy.

Hell yeah bud! I'm stuck on the p365 myself, mostly out of being a NYS resident and trying to optimise 10rnd capacity out of spite, but when it comes to pure single stack concealed carry goodness, the shield is what's up. The closest alternative is a commander 1911 in 9mm, which would cost nearly a grand and probably jam every other round! Keep us in the loop for your holster journey!

I second the stealthgear ventcore, I've had both the standard(for my Sig M11-a1) and the mini(for my H&K P2000sk), and both have been excellent. Super comfy, cool, great retention, easy to reholster, and while I've never worn mine with a tucked in shirt, the clips look like they'd take to it just fine out of the box.

Mmmm can't go wrong with Trijicon, them and Leupold are my bois when it comes to aiming real good lol

Bottom line mastering one trigger pull is easier than mastering two.

Gotta agree on pretty much all of this, and what you’ve been saying through the conversation. In comp, the slightest advantage still matters when you’re on the clock. Same reason why male competitive swimmers shave their legs. It’s not gonna improve your technique, but it could shave a fraction of a second off your time.
 
Also comp shooting and practical shooting are wildly different and should never be mixed. Unless you’re running production division, you should never trust your comp gun as anything but a comp gun. It’s not built for defense or carry, and it’s likely less reliable and bad practice for anything but competition. Be like trying to drive a monster truck to the grocery store. Comp shooting and practical shooting are apples to oranges.

Interesting choice for a comp gun, you're gonna get murdered on the price of mags lol. I assume it's one of the long slide Expert models? Otherwise you're making things tough on yourself, but still a great gun. 9mm or .45?

Real trick is get some buddies together and sign up for a family plan, makes the price considerably more bearable.

I'm not crazy about modding a carry gun. I'd rather the trigger suck and it still go bang, than it feel amazing and jam when I need it.

If you're looking for a proper carry gun and you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, the shield cannot be beat, well chosen! Never been a fan of the trigger, but there's worse out there(lookin at you Glock)

Hey if that's what works! I'm not here to tell anyone how to carry, and a little gun is leaps ahead of no gun. Given my druthers, I'd owb carry a big dumb "compact" 9 at all times if I could get away with it. All that being said, we just gotta remember that objectively, there are better and worse choices. In a perfect world we'd all have 10mm's open carried in a comfy drop legs, and 5.56's or 7.62's strapped to our backs.

I’m going to edit in a few things.  For the longest time, I’ve had a hard time finding a G3 for a good price.  Century Arms recently starting making the C308 from surplus parts.  I picked one up cause I always wanted one.
The main reason is sentimental value.  The first rifle I ever fired was a 10/22, my stepdad later gave me that same 10/22 (it’s still my favorite gun today).  The first centerfire rifle I ever fired was his pre-ban G3.  Yeah, big step up from .22LR to .308.  But I’ve been in love with the CETME/G3 ever since then.  Today I finally got one of my own.

I started last summer in Single Stack with a Sig Nightmare 1911 5", then sold it to a buddy and grabbed a Walther Q5 Match for production minor, which lemme tell you that gun is an absolute steal at only ~$700. There's the new steel frame version for like a grand but imo the polymer version is a better bargain. Anyways, grabbed a Delta Point Pro in mid winter with the intention of swapping to Carry Optics, but I've only made it out to like one event so far as I've been lazy and the weather has been awful.
