" At first glance, we can see that the layout has changed quite a bit and more surprisingly, rather than additional features, Magician 5.0 is more streamlined with fewer features than the previous versions. The OS Optimization, Over Provisioning, and Data Security tabs/features have been taken out. Additionally, the Performance Optimization section as well, unless you have a Samsung 840 or 840 EVO series SSD. If you do, then the Performance Optimization feature will be available to you, but may require you to update your SSD’s firmware first. "

Basically, they streamlined it so it would be easier to use and not have as many features that they have to provide support for.

I had a client that while i was troubleshooting his network attached printer told me that when he tried to unplug the ethernet cable sparks went off from the port. I was like WTF? I couldn't figure out what is wrong, so when he tried to do something trying to recreate situation he screamed that it happened again... There was no sparks of course - it was blinking orange ethernet port LED reflecting from his hand that he had no idea was there

Gosu reacted to Dackzy in Apple touchbar, keyboard and temperature problems
People never talk about temps in a laptop. Every single macbook has had hig temps when you push it. If people and youtube "reviewers" talked about temps, then they would all see how shitty a Razer Blade is. You can blaim youtube "reviewers" that don't know how to review a laptop and yes I also just called out Linus.
Even if it is just peak, then it is still SUPER BAD, a intel skylake CPU starts to thermal throttle at 85c, basically everyone that knows anything about laptops will tell you that you should aim to have max temps around the 80-82c mark, because anything above that, WILL shorten the life time of the laptop.
No they are not perfect, BUT you expect a company that sells a 1700$-5k laptop, to not have any huge problems. This is not first gen, not in any way. It is having first gen problems, but it isn't first gen.

Yes you need Apple adaptors, because they use a texas 2. gen TB3 controller, which does not work properly with the first gen controller products. Guess what most adaptors are... FIRST GEN
There is basically no need for this push. A mouse and keyboard is not going to benefit, a big business will not go out and buy new projectors, screens and what ever they need for this "upgrade". FFS many still use VGA. The only things that will benefit from this is external storage and eGPU (which is a huge fail). Have you even seen how expensive some of those usb SSDs are? They cost a lot more than a normal SSD, which you then can just buy a external cover for. USB 3.0 can handle the speeds of a normal SSD, which means that only M.2 NVMe SSDs are going to really benifit from this.
Yes we would get a port that could basically do everything, but the business world would not get into this for a long time, which means that it comes down to the every day user, a lot still use a SD card, a lot of people own normal USB 3.0 sticks, so that means that they have to go out and buy adaptors that cost a lot, that will slow down the spread of this.
They should have given you the basic adaptors, like USB A to USB C, SD card reader, Displayport to USB C, HDMI to USB C and maybe even VGA to USB C, instead if you want their adaptors that has the texas 2. gen controller in it, then you can easily spend 200$, just to get a 1700$-5k laptop to do the same things as a 500$ laptop would do...
So you are calling a man that lives of fixing MacBooks and just generally Apple products a idiot? You see how idiotic that is? He knows far more than you do, he knows far more than Linus does.

If you knew what you were even talking about, then you would see that it makes a lot of sense, because their laptops use the 2. gen controller, while basically every single 3rd party adaptor uses 1. gen. Also if you even cared a bit and just didn't defend Apple no matter what, then you would also have seen that the USB C/TB3 drivers got updated while he had a live stream about it. This means that Apple KNOWS that there are problems with the ports.
    LOL
Hah the Blade is one huge problem. No QC, shitty thermals, shitty build quality, useless support, bad keyboard for the price.

If you also have heard what Apple have said about their laptops. "We build working prototypes of ideas way before it becomes a product" They have said that they had a working macbook with a touch screen. This means that they should have seen all of these problems.

The things Apple were known for when steve jobs were here was that they had no big flaws at launch. So comsumers expect the same attention to detail as they had when Steve Job was still here.
There is no way around this, they cut corners, to earn more money. He also beleived that a proprietary connector only made sense, when it was usefull, like magsafe.

    Hi,

So I had my Define R4 for a while now and while I was being careful not to touch the front brushed aluminium door. Over time it gathered some fingerprints which appeared as large discoloured spots and marks on the case. Noticing how much worse it is getting overtime just due to accidental touches I was starting to think maybe brushed aluminium isn't the way to go even though I think it looks absolutely beautiful when clean.

I remembered Linus saying that it is impossible to clean because the oils from your skin react with it or whatever :P And after trying many different types of cloths as well as trying water it looked like Linus was right...until... today I have tried using 99% Isopropyl alcohol, just sprayed a little bit on a cloth and tried cleaning a tiny area on the bottom corner of front (incase it turns out the alcohol damages the finish even more) anyway, to my surprise it cleaned all marks off of the aluminium and caused no damage.

I have now cleaned the entire front just with some more 99% Isopropyl alcohol sprayed on a cloth and the case looks like new with 0 marks.

I know this isn't exactly a guide or a tutorial but more of a tip, if you need to clean brushed aluminium try using 99% Isopropyl alcohol :)

Gosu reacted to tabuburn in How to run higher than the maximum resolutions on your display
admin edit: added video inspired by this thread.

WARNING: I haven't seen anyone encountering this but just like overclocking, there is an inherent risk of damaging your display and it may not be covered by its warranty. It may not even be able to achieve the same settings other people are able to get.

Note: I did not make this guide but have used it on all of my monitors without any problems. Credits are due to the ones that originally posted these on another forum.

What this guide is all about is how to get higher resolutions than what your display is capable of. It is called Downsampling. What it basically does is to have your GPU artificially push a resolution that's over what your display is able to do. The impact it will have on your GPU is equivalent to what it would do on a display that can actually output that resolution natively.

    For example:
Your display is natively able to support a resolution up to 1920x1080. Using Downsampling it will send out a signal to tell your display to output a resolution of 2560x1440. Now on a display that can output a maximum resolution of 1080p has about 2 million pixels while a 1440p display outputs 3.7 million. Downsampling does not increase the amount of pixels being displayed. Itcan't go beyond that. What it does is bring that 1440p resolution to your 1080p display and compresses it to fit inside the screen. The effect it has is similar to zooming out on a lower resolution picture.

Below, you can see the difference in image quality on both images taken on the same display. Both images are using the same settings but with different resolutions.
