  1. In CVs recruiters usually recommend to put metrics and percentage. Personally I think that it is stupid. I can list two real life scenarios why: - create a software project. Deliberately make it sluggish. Then “fix” it before each performance review. Get nice bonuses for “improvements”. - deliberately design a mechanical part heavier than it can be. Shave weight bit by bit every year. Become a manager. Same rant goes for performance reviews. So imagine writing in your CV - responsible for project X (that you started), redesigned Y (that you deliberately made a bottleneck) making response Z% faster (although it should be like that from the start)
  2. As someone working a lot with AWS I can tell the following: - learning for obtaining the certificate WILL NOT teach you how to setup or configure anything. - it will teach you about concepts and best practices which is a valuable skill Lots of people will use cloud platforms in suboptimal manners (eg. having virtual machines running 24/7 for simple batch jobs instead of serverless code engines or containerized tasks etc)
  3. In my case usually DHL is by far the fastest and the most convenient service for the overseas shipping. I can arrange when I will get my package, where I will get it (drop off lockers or convenience stores etc) and I immediately know about import fees and can pay for them when the package arrives in the country. Fedex is a mess here for private deliveries. I also hate when shops use Fedex and want me to prepay the import fees which are way more expensive than if I paid for them during the delivery. On the other hand, local delivery companies are just the best. All of them offer a free re-delivery and you can select the time slot when you want your package delivered. Post is also quite good and reliable, but a bit slow.
  4. Got a nice coffee grinder for my camping trip. Also the deal was quite sweet since the original price was around 80USD, but I paid only 20ish brand new from the store.
  5. Coffee flavored sweets are awful. This comes from the person who likes both coffee and sweets.
  6. Youtube autoplay if so useless that it should be removed all together.
  7. Good public transport system >>> cars I was born in a relatively car dependent country and moved to a country with exceptional public transportation. No need to spend tens of thousands euros or dollars on a vehicle, no need to pay for car insurance and taxes, no need to think about the parking. Also while commuting I can read, watch movies/series, play games etc. Finally, the best thing is no traffic jams. Also cars are not freedom. Having an option to choose between multiple modes of transportation is freedom.
  8. Let me see if I understand everything correctly. Even if there is no input to the sound card and your guitar is disconnected you are hearing noise? Is it by any chance something like this noise? If so then that is the normal behavior of distortion pedals (even virtual ones). The more gain you have, the more noise it will produce. To get rid of it you need something like in that video and Guitar rig has a virtual one - noise gate. Then just adjust threshold until you get silence while not playing and while playing you don’t get sudden sound shut down downs.
  9. yeah, I actually asked Bard to give me some recommendations and Misfit was there. However they seem to be gone for good. Unfortunately it seems that Loop series has been discontinued. But thanks for the suggestion.
  10. I had Xiaomi band for few months and it died quite quickly. I don’t mind paying more to get good quality software and hardware. I am not very fond with random Chinese manufacturers software.
  11. As someone who worked as system integrator in big broadcasting houses, I am familiar with the software that detects possible epileptic sequences among other potential problems with the video. That kind of software will report which sequences are potentially problematic and when. Also, watching at 2x plus speeds some frames will be skipped which means that there is high possibility that eg. strobing effects will not be perceived as in the native playing speed.
  12. I had a similar post few years ago and the situation changed a bit. Basically, I want inconspicuous device, something like a bracelet without any displays which will count my steps and my heartbeats. So far here is the result of my research so it will be easier to understand what kind of devices am I looking for. Great concept, but with great defects or no longer available: Amazon Halo - I was looking forward for this, but Amazon pulled the plug Oura ring - everything is great, I would even pay price premium for the hardware, but paying 6 bucks per month just to have useful app is disgusting Whoop - looks just like the perfect concept for me, but subscription only model is a great turn off Fitbit Flex 2 - friends with Fitbit have issues with their longevity and this product being discontinued is unfortunate no go. Also no heart rate monitor. Something that I am currently looking into, although it doesn’t tick my “no display” box is Garmin Vivosmart 5. I have Garmin Instinct and that thing is serving me well for years, but I want to wear “normal” watches as well and have all the monitoring functions of my Instinct. So having everything above in mind, I am looking for a no display bracelet or similar device without any subscriptions so if anyone has something that can suggest, it would be helpful. Alternatively, if someone knows about 3rd party bands for Vivosmart 5 which could help me “mask” it as much as possible, I’d be also very happy with that information as well. Cheers
  13. Got a new chalk bag so I can do easy A/B testing of various chalks. I have another Arc’teryx chalk bag which is going strong for years so I decided to go with the same brand.
  14. Basically any modern audio interface will provide a low latency so I would just choose something from a reliable brand. Also, if you are buying interface mostly for use with your bass, I would look into something that has high impedance input dedicated for instruments. Personally I have Audient id4 and it works great with all my guitars and basses thanks to its instrument input.
  15. Never enough chorus pedals. This one will go on my bass pedalboard.
  16. There is such thing as too much chocolate in desserts. Let’s use chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips and chocolate topping. It is boring. All those extra things are not helping in elevating one dimensional taste of the dessert. However, swap chocolate flavor ice cream with eg. vanilla and you have much more interesting dessert. This whole rant is because I am tired of seeing more and more lazy one dimensional chocolate desserts where the whole thing is basically “more is better” with chocolate, but it isn’t.
  17. Google mobile pages are frustratingly bad (search, maps, youtube…) I don’t want to use any of their apps except Maps. Speaking of that app, UX is also frustrating, however it is still much better than the mobile counterpart.
  18. If you are making video with eg. funny animals etc. just piss off with idea of putting any music to it. Especially generic YouTube or TikTok music. Music in those videos doesn’t make it better in 99.99% cases.
  19. I was mostly thinking about that. I was screwed so many times by trusting Google maps. It is ok to show where the goal is, the route to it, on the other hand, is what I have issues with. The only thing that works for me “as advertised” so far is car navigation. Since I live in the country which is not designed that you need to use car even to go to the toilet with it, that part of navigation is not something that I am using often to give my full thought regarding it.
  20. Google maps phone application has terrible UI. Also, I am tired when people try to convince me that everything what Google maps says it’s true. It isn’t. It is useful application, but it is best effort application, not ground truth one.
  21. It looked great until I noticed it was not PWM fan. Non PWM would work, but I prefer PWM ones. I was thinking about it, but I am too lazy to think about the mounting it. There are some mounting adapters but they are expensive for what they are and I don’t know would bigger fans fit. Those pre built systems are not made in mind with having high compatibility with 3rd party accessories.
  22. Google gave me several alternatives as well, however I am asking to get other people hands on experiences if possible because there are many options from China which should be avoided like plague.
  23. That’s my suspicion. It has that grinding sound from time to time.
  24. Usually my answer to that question would be Noctua, however unfortunately they don’t make 70mm fans. So, I got second hand HP Elitedesk which has Coolermaster (Delta) fan which is a bit noisy (I guess from the usage) so I would like to swap it. One option is to get exactly the same, but I am wondering if there is something better. I just need something quiet since I will use that PC as a firewall in my room and that it has PWM (4 pin) connector. Also, I don’t want to swap the whole CPU cooler because I don’t need performance and I don’t want to spend extra money.
