Large media corporations don't have investments in the video game industry, but they do in other media such as film, television and literature. Why would they blame something that they have investments in when they can blame violent video games without consequences and still make a lot of money by publishing this "bullshit" that is provocative and well, sells.
Before video games started taking the blame, its was movies, right? Stories in newspapers on how watching TV and movies brainwash kids and cartoons like Looney Tunes cause violent behavior. Well that business grew to become massive, the giant it is today. The ones who harped on TV and movies, saw the possibility for large profits and thus started making million dollar investments. And I think you can guess the rest.
