Our neighbours in Germany usually have pretty similar laws to us (Netherlands). That being said. Here if you buy something that happens to be stolen or illegally obtained, but you yourself paid for it in good faith, you are not at fault. Good faith is an important clue here. If you have no suspicion whatsoever, and the price seems reasonable, then you cannot be charged for any crime. Worst case you'll have to spend some time to explain the situation to the police.

However, if you're buying stuff and you know the price is too good to be true, i.e. grey market license keys, or a $5 bicycle with a destroyed lock, that's where good faith ends and lawful pursuit begins. So long story short, it all depends on the intent here. Like you said.

Mojo-Jojo reacted to Skipple in would this be a better alternative if electronic get wet?
Assuming that you are able to disconnect the power supply quickly enough, the issue with getting electronics wet is often not the moisture itself, but rather the minerals and deposits that are left behind after the liquid evaporates. This will cause corrosion to the electronic components over time and is the true killer. I would argue that it's much more important to wash electronics with something like isopropyl alcohol to remove any foreign debris than to remove the actual liquid.

Why is this even an RTX? Who would run raytracing on this? Why not go and release another GTX range cards like with the 1600 series?

Pulse should be good. As far as I can find on their site, the GPU can take up to 140W, so it's a "full-power" design rather than a neutered 4070 for laptops.

Mojo-Jojo reacted to manikyath in Does wattage have a limit?
just a detail i want to add; wattage is a result. you cant 'push more wattage', more wattage comes from either the cpu pulling more current or the VRM supplying higher voltage.

Mojo-Jojo got a reaction from silencer12 in 13700k + RTX 4090 PC abruptly reboots under load. Is the 750w PSU to blame?
Transients are the magic word in cases like this. You might be fine with the average power consumption, but power spikes might cause the PSU to trip. This was a major problem with the 3000 series, but the 4000 series also sees its fair share of sudden transients.

My bet would be the PSU.

Mojo-Jojo got a reaction from FlyingPotato_is_taken in Simulate a button press via Arduino
A button is usually pulled up with a high-value resistor, say 1k or more. If the button is sourced by 3.3V, at most you would be dealing with 3.3 mA. The Arduino microcontroller should easily be able to handle at least 10 or 15 mA sinking current per pin.

All you'd need to do is sink the current through a low IO pin and couple the Arduino's GND to the button board's GND.

The button will also still work this way.

Mojo-Jojo got a reaction from Heats with Nvidia in Simulate a button press via Arduino
As a very crude schematic, this will work.

If you couple both boards' GND, you can pull the switch signal down directly using the Arduino's IO-pin by driving it low.

You can include a protection diode that prevents you from driving the switch signal high with your Arduino, but personally I'd say that once you finish experimentation, the chances of accidentally driving a pin high are... low so it's optional.

This way, you can safely complete the current path for the switch signal to GND using both the button and the Arduino IO pin. No optocouplers necessary.

There are upsides to optocouplers, which include galvanic isolation. This is useful if you have high voltage or current spikes. I doubt that will be the case in this system. I also think driving the optocoupler will cost more current than to just sink the current directly.

I generally agree, but if they want to be extra sure that the microcontroller is safe, an optocoupler is the way.

Mojo-Jojo reacted to Chubbysumo in Rossman Group Lying about repairs.
so do it yourself or take it to an AASP.  Rossmann has quite clearly stated why he and no one should join the "apple certified service center" program.  One of the biggest reasons is that they can no longer do board level repair.  NONE.  All he can do is what apple lets him, which is utterly minimal and wasteful. If a capacitor dies and blows up, he can't just replace it and hand you your laptop back.  he would have to replace the entire board, wipe all your data(hope you had it backed up!), and would have to order the parts and wait for apple to ship them, which right now is taking literally weeks. Go ahead, order that screen angle sensor from apple and see how long it takes to get to you.

also, no data recovery, or any other business that might conflict with apple's repairs, even on Non-apple devices.  second is that Apple gets all your customer data, ALL OF IT(even non-apple repair customer data).  which means that they can skip you the repair man and send them to someone else if they decided they don't like you.  They also have full unfettered access to your shop to do inspections any time they want, including for up to 2 years after you exit the program.

The program is a literal joke in the repair business, because any shop that has so far joined has fully regretted it because they lose so much other business, and apple customers are the least profitable since they are limited in scope.

Also, rossmann can't order the part from apple.  They won't sell it to him.  In fact, they won't sell any of their parts to ANY third party repair shops, and prevent the actual part makers from ever selling those parts to anyone else but apple.  Its downright anti-competitive, and causes lots of waste.  They even go so far as to use CBP to confiscate non-apple third party repair parts at the border to prevent anyone from getting repairs at all.

His prices are justified because he has a business to run.  Labor isn't cheap, and overhead isn't cheap. You are paying for his skilled repair techs to do the job in their space with the right tools.

The apple repair it your self kit means you will have to spend your time on it, and how much is your time worth, because you aren't considering that.  In my case, my time is worth about $45 an hour based on my current business.  If it took me, an unskilled with idevices person 2 hours to replace this screen angle sensor, that means my overhead was $90, plus the cost of the space to do it in my office/workshop, plus the cost of the tool kit($60), plus the cost of the part, and suddenly, rossmann's price isn't so terrible.  Im already at $160 without factoring in the cost of my workspace for 2 hours.  a rossmann tech is gonna get it done in 30 minutes, but you are paying for their skill, which is worth every penny, because guess what, its something less you have to do.

you clearly have never run a business and don't understand what you are paying for with that Rossmann quote.
