    UPDATE: @alpenwasser
    Hardware

MB: ASUS P8B-X LGA 1155 Intel  repurposed to esxi server only
CPU:  Intel Xeon E3-1230 Sandy Bridge 3.2GHz LGA 1155 80W repurposed to esxi server only
    RAM: Kingston Technology ValueRAM 32GB Kit of 4 (4 x 8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz PC3 12800 ECC  repurposed to esxi server only
RAID CARD 1:  Intel RAID SAS/SATA 8 internal port w/ 512MB cache memory Retired
    MB: ASUS Sabertooth Z77
    CPU:  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
HS: Stock intel (yes i know this is the worst sin ever but ohh well)
    RAM: Ripjaw 16GB Kit of 2 (2 x 8 GB) DDR3
    NIC 0: Intel® 82579V, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller(s)
    NIC 1:  671798-001 HP 10GB ETHERNET (SFP+)
    HDD 0:  5 of Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s in raid 5 [15TB actual][10 usable]
One of them is reporting smart errors will be replacing once i have the funds todo so
HDD Hot Swap Bays:  ICY DOCK FlexCage MB973SP-1B Tray-less 3x3.5

    Software and Configuration:
This is now just a storage server running FreeNAS 9.10.2 that host storage for my ESXI server for those who do not know this is a tier 2 hypervisor put out by VMware!
This allows me to run virtual machines. I eliminated the raid controller because i was not happy with the speed of it and opted to go the route of a esxi server with just a boot drive and have it store VMs to a separate server. this has increased the speed and reliability of my storage this machine can saturate a 1gb link with no problem, the esxi machince has direct 10g connnection to the box.

    Usage:

stores the machines that do the following things, host my web server, and media server which is all Linux based setup and my ap controller and network monitor machine running windows 10. it also hold all my other random stuff!

Basically if it plays netflix and Youtube in HD you're good to go. NUCs and netbooks are fine.

I hope they do as well because if this runs on dirt nothing like they say it will. if they compile a client to run on something like a pi you have a cheap work station that takes littel to no room you can hook to any hdmi device and have the performance of that machine. if the pi ever breaks or quits working you spend anther $35 and you are ready to go again! even if you had to buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse you still have only paid for the Gpu in the first year but as soon as they update the gpu to the newest thing then you start all over again. there is also no expensive hardware to maintain and replace the system basically has a life time warranty.

No consumer will pay hundreds of £ a month to get a gigabit or 2 because virgin is riding the exclusivity train. www.hyperoptic.com It's meant to come to my block early next year, will see if it's any good for the price.

Hey guys this is older news but is awesome none the less and is helping move the whole gigabit connection further along in smaller communities not knowing the price i can not comment on this will update as info becomes available  but this should be a step in the right direction
and does this prove the fact that Google fiber is pulling ISPs to the current century in a metaphorical since of time

I would agree you get what you pay for and for a business connection you could get this if you are willing to pay you could have a fiber line pulled to your computer in your bedroom but i think that you are correct but i think the biggest achievement of Google fiber and any other isp is to bring it to everyday consumer at a price point that does not require a 6 digit income to pay for i know that gigabit is not hard to do but bring it to everyday consumers i am not say the gigabit connection is not the evolution

NOTE: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HARDWARE COMBINATION THE RAID CARD WAS A LITTLE PARTICULAR ABOUT THE OS
IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS RAID CARD I WOULD RECOMMEND USING A INTEL MOBO AND CHECKING THE COMPATIBILITY LIST
THIS WAS MY MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS BUILD !

CASE:  Corsair Carbide Series 400R Graphite grey
PSU:  CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W 80 PLUS GOLD

That host my full time services and allows me to play around with a couple different machines

This host my web server, Voice server, and Irc server which is all linux based setup and my storage and backup machine running windows 8.1

Okay so basics : it has faster data transfer rates since it's much much faster components (similar to ram) than spinning drives usually use this for your prior drive for Operating system & program's etc..uses & take full advantage of sata 3 ports in your mobo

    Advantage:
faster boot times (boot up in about 8 seconds or so compared to hard drives 17-30+ second) Drive does not heat up(cooler overall system) no moving parts so no noise from it whatsoever or jittery motion like spinning hrd drives make uses & takes advantage of sata 3 ports with transfer rates upto 2x the spinning hdd rates Game maps load up ridiculously fast (also improvement in game performance but it's noticeable not dramatic) faster application launches (adobe/media encoder) more smoother workflow (noticeable speed bump compared to spin drives) you can get in & start whatever you do in less time if you're in a hurry
    also Disadvantes:
Cost far more with lower capacity compared to spinny drives capacity is an issue right now also price per gig thingy is heavy in comparison shouldn't be defragged, files could potentially become unrecoverable in certain scenarios if the drive starts to give up it won't show any signs (unlike mech hddd makin gnoise or random freeze here & there before giving up) I'd say that should explain why you kinda need this, also do pick out the right ones..in short it's an investment like you could have gone for an entry level mobo, but this one has its benefits right? same rules apply here..Hope this helps..
