Recomendations for disk utility tool
samcool55 replied to Hask's topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
I usually use a GParted bootable USB. Works fine for most disk management and Windows won't get in your way. Download the ISO from their website and use Rufus to turn it into a bootable USB stick (you need a spare USB stick of course). -
I didn't know the 13900 had 34 cores. (obviously a typo).

Life is full of surprises - AMD $5,000 Ultimate Tech Upgrade
samcool55 replied to Shahrad's topic in LTT Releases
Why do they have Anker stuff? I though they would no longer buy their stuff because of the whole camera privacy disaster. -
You can try to reseat the CPU but it's likely an issue with the ethernet controller itself. I would also go the route of a pcie ethernet card and don't bother with an RMA because it's probably around the same price as shipping the motherboard and you can keep using the PC.

RMA the motherboard, the intel NIC has multiple revisions because the first ones were absolute garbage.

I was stupid enough to do that once! Thing got infected in 2 days by a RAT, how i figured that out? Because my computer suddenly decided to open the firefox password vault, which was luckily empty. Literally pulled the plug and nuked it, I'm thankful they didn't go for my lastpass vault. Never again will I run without an antivirus. It's not worth the performance bump.

I'm the Second Person to Touch This - ROG Ally Preview
samcool55 replied to Plouffe's topic in LTT Releases
If it's double the performance for double the price, is it really a steamdeck competitor? Yes it's aimed at the same market, but for people with a different budget and also, would comparing a new 1000 dollar computer to a year old 500 dollar computer be a fair comparison? (that's based on the assumption the ROG thing is 800 dollars) Also you can be sure that whatever APU is in that thing that AYA, GPD and ONEXPLAYER are also looking into putting it into their own devices. It's cool that a big brand is FINALLY trying it too but, it's ROG, it's gonna be expensive. -
Bruh my account is almost 10 years old D: It's older than the post in OP's image! Geez... I still remember a time when the forum didn't exist, WAN show didn't exist, NCIX Esther was still active and Crazy Russian hadn't done a face reveal. It's difficult to grasp the wild ride LTT has been so far and the train is still going at full speed!

The BEST GPUs NVIDIA Ever Made… and the WORST
samcool55 replied to HC_writes's topic in LTT Releases
Apart from the obvious suggestion to make a similar video about AMD, how about a video that talks about all the confusion both brands (nvidia and AMD) did with their naming? A few got mentioned like the 970 "4GB" and the 1060 3GB vs 6GB, but we all know they did this a LOT more often. The RX 480 for example is actually quite a mess. The 4GB ones had slower memory speeds compared to 8GB ones and the 2048SP editions also exist (which means it's basically a RX 470 even tho they are called RX 480). I found this surprisingly relevant recently (few days ago actually) when shopping for an rx 480 on aliexpress, a bunch of them are actually 2048SP cards but it's not always mentioned very clearly. -
Very funny e-mail at 13:07, I highly recommend pausing and reading it completely. It's worth it.

Who's idea was it to take DENNIS to a fab?! I'm not surprised Linus was allowed to go in, but I am surprised they let Dennis in. Still an amazing video tho.

You can warn them as much as you want, if they don't wanna hear it then they won't. You tried to educate and warn them but if they don't want to listen, don't put more time and energy in it. If they end up losing important data, that's their loss. Just make sure your setup is actually decent. If it's work related. Get it all in writing (CYA) and get in (digital) writing they accept the potential risks of not executing/following your advice. Just make sure you have it written down somewhere! Once they accept taking responsibility, it's no longer your problem/worry.

Valve Left Me Unsupervised: Steam Deck Hardware Review
samcool55 replied to jakkuh_t's topic in LTT Releases
That very last question about a conflict with savegames is something that we already know. It will just ask which save is the right one. Had that happen a few times in the past. Steam will just give you the 2 dates of the savegames and ask you if you want to keep the local one or the cloud one. If u notice the time from the cloud one isn't what you expected because the steam deck didn't sync, you just cancel the sync, turn on your steam deck, let it idle for a few moments (it will sync in the background and afaik it won't always tell you it's syncing, if it does it shows as a download) and then u can launch the game again on your other device. You'll see the cloud sync date is correct now so u sync that and off u go! Or if u notice your progress isn't there you need to let your steam deck sync too. Also few suggestions: How do you update the OS? How do you install steam OS after an SSD swap? What about backups? What about the BIOS? Anything interesting there? -
There's always the ghetto option and remove the PCIE cover slots below the GPU. That way the air can leave easier so the air pocket is reduced. I've done it a few times before and it usually worked, but not much. It's more of a bandaid thing rather than a proper solution.
