GimmeGaming reacted to LordFlipFlap in Norwegian consumer law makes all new electronics sold, required to have 5 years of software and app support
Summary
Norwegian consumer law, as of the 1. of january 2024, has been updated. It now requires all new products that requires an app, or has built in software to have at least 5 years of updated software support. Norwegian consumer law has allways been strict, and every product sold in norway has a 2 or 5 year warenty. Where the 5 year warrenty covers things that is made to last. Consumer electronics (Phones, TV's, smart watches, appliances, ect.) is coverd by the latter 5 year warrenty that now also includes app support and software updates from the time of purchase.
Quotes
This is a Norwegian article, and not the main focus of the story, but rater a summary of what is changing in the law. I have looked for other sources but can't seem to find any news sources that have piced up on this story.
My thoughts
This is huge news. Norway is not really a big market, but still a big consumer of electronics. This newest law change sets huge pressure on manufacturers to keep old tech allive and not kill support if a product fails. This in theory also maens that if you buy for example an older phone it is not 5 years of software sopport from when the product is launced, but the way the law is worded it means it is 5 yeas of software support from the time of delivery/purchase. This means that stuff realistically needs at least 6-7 years of software support, as stores sell the same product over a 1-2 year period.
If the requrements are not met the manufacturer is legally required to fix or replace the product, and i dont think any manufacturer is ready to take the L on having to replace all of the products in a country, becase they did not want to do an extra software update.
If anyone is wondering, it is really hard for manufacturers to get out of these cases. Personally i have had 2 panel replacements on my LG B9 OLED Tv becase of dead pixels, and i know that a lot of samsung fold owners get free scrren replacments when they start to crack from the folding of the screen. I have hight hopes that this can be pretty big for electronics being built to last.

GimmeGaming reacted to Cletis in Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
Just because you choose to be a victim doesn’t mean everyone else has to be one stick up for your self just because this new generation of adults are afraid of conflict and they bottle their problems till they snap on social media doesn’t mean everyone has to. And it isn’t victim blaming it’s called telling people to learn to stick up for themself when issues arise so you don’t have to play victim 2 years later.

There more than enough legal remedies for her allegations. If they had any merit she is free to pursue them, otherwise…

GimmeGaming reacted to Riccardo Cagnasso in Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
So let's recap.
- people in the management criticize the quality of her work, as they should be since it's their job
- she doesn't like it and starts complaining about her superiors
- they point out that their management is made up of accomplished professionals and she's a newbie that could be fired anytime
- she gets offended at the fact that they didn't fire all the senior management because she was complaining
- she alleges that she was "inappropriately grabbed" whatever it means
- she's perplexed by the fact that LTT cares about what public faces put in the video and weather they will stick with the brand

Actually a great response. Not going to get into mudslinging in employment matters online but she’s perfectly capable of legally pursuing the matter and proving it. OTherwsie, just another tweet in the wind

See the pinned post from Linus. He confirms it, although he tries to make it sound better by saying the proceeds went to charity.

There's a post from Linus saying in short "We paid them for selling their prototype". It's garbage, but I guess that's lawyers speaking to each others in background.

And he said that many times himself. There, on a wan show, he says live that 800 per month is just rounding error correction - he says its not even a rounding error and when they found out that it is $800 per month they laughed
He also claims that they "probably spend more on snacks" - so this excuse with "it would cost $500 :(" is just made up completly, and he has to know that. He doesnt treat $800 per month too seriosuly. Thats just his way to make it sound like a lot for people who forget how massive LTT is.
But there is something tragic-funny in the fact that they are happy to spend money on snacks but wont spend them to give start-up proper chance. More tragic than funny but its so absurd.

Seriously? To make 100% sure before you fuck over a startup you can't spend an hour or two to double check your results?
And then you SOLD the block at an auction causing them to be stalled as they no longer have their best prototype! What the absolute fuck????

Many of the points made by GN are very valid I love LTT and there videos and I know the release a bunch of very good content, but there team is Huge now and given the concept of the lab I think its time they spend a little more time on accuracy, and making sure content is correct before posting, I just hope everyone can remain mature and take on bored the points of GN, and see it as GN trying to help LTT rather than just throwing shade and causing drama

The part where it is alleged LTT auctioned off a prototype water block they promised to return is troubling. That requires an official response.

I upgrade the GPU to a 7900XTX. Going AMD for the first time in years. Between the Nvidia tax and the 12 pin cable issues, I figured it was time to switch. I was pleasantly surprised how good the GPU drivers are now. They seem to be very light weight.
I also replaced all the drives with a 2TB Seagate 530 for the OS, 4TB Seagate 530 for game and a 1TB SN850 for data.

GimmeGaming reacted to Alvin853 in 40 Series cards and melted connectors
Just because something is rare doesn't mean it is user error. And the failure rates of previous 6 and 8 pin PCIe connectors were much lower.
Also there were no widespread issues reported on 3090Ti cards that used the same connector. There clearly is something wrong with RTX 4000 series cards, and maybe user error can make it worse, but the problem is not user error.

GimmeGaming reacted to Alvin853 in 40 Series cards and melted connectors
I don't think the cableMOD adapter is certified by NVidia... So if you use it you lose your warranty on the card. Hopefully CableMOD has warranty that covers replacement of the card if their adapter breaks the card, if they don't then users are just at fault for using stupid cheap adapters that break their cards.
I disagree with this view, the procedure should not be "use it until it eventually breaks, then we'll fix it", it should be "we'll fix it so it never breaks in the first place". Connectors are still burning up, because the issue was not resolved. By identifying the cause as "user error" NVidia seemed to have denied all responsibility for the issue. And any user that now posts "my 12VHPWR connector burned up" doesn't get media coverage, they get shut down and told "well you didn't plug it in correctly, your own fault". In a pro-consumer problem resolution, this should not happen!
