I didn't realize the LTT fans were so young.... I thought they were an average 15-16 years old But most of them in the video are like 10-14, from what I can see. (guesstimation taken from their hight, and pitch of their voices)

Telstra-can the BS get any worse? (long winded)

Telstra-can the BS get any worse? (long winded)
Hoppa replied to Dabombinable's topic in General Discussion
I'd switch to optus in a heart beat if they offered cable in my area. Telstra gave us an extra 500gb a month 'for free' totalling in 1TB a month to make it sound like they care (they know we don't ever use over 400gb a month) But that doesn't matter because I'm stuck at 2.4mbps aka 300KB/s upload - in which they throttle on a regular basis, meaning sometimes my 100mbps download is useless if I can't even shake hands with another server. Well done telstra, you're the real MVP. -
Personally I'd love to go on a road trip up to north queensland and check out the great barrier reef and some islands and go snorkelling.

TV manufacturers advertise the hertz as the backlight flicker rate, not the panel refresh rate. The "clear-motion adding extra frames in crap " is samsungs way of tricking people to buying their stuff. usually displayed as: 200hz + 400 motion plus

I wonder if disabling hyper threading on the intel cpu would give it better results, since games don't fully utilize more than 4 or 6 threads. And having 8 large cores as opposed to 16 smaller ones may eliminate any potential cpu bottlenecks.

If you can find the release date of the TV it will give a good indication of whether it has HDMI 2.0 or not. My bet is that it doesn't. I'm on my phone atm so I can't do much research.

@Engineer_Diep You can't compare something like adobe after effects to iMovie for IOS. The IOS app is extremely light weight in features compared to a hardcore app (not sure compared to the desktop iMovie) That being said, apple made the app for their own specific devices (which is not many) - this means they can really optimize its performance.

WHY IS RAM SUDDENLY SO CHEAP
Hoppa replied to 10ochamberlain1's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
It's $10 per GB where I am -
True, I read the forum a fair bit, for 'news' and stuff, but I rarely post. Maybe like 2 posts a week.

h.264 a standard codec for vedeo compression (it's video only) EDIT: my bad x.264 is the library A .mp4 is a container that is made up of a h.264 and a .aac file for video and audio. That's why you don't see any .h264 files around

Organizing to get a #firepole in the new office is probably taking up most of his time these days.

TN is fairly annoying when adjusting your head up and down. The slightest movement and you will notice colour shift. It's not as bad from side to side though. That being said, not all TN panels are the same. Personally I'd prefer 60hz ips over 144hz tn.

Windows 8 won't boot after fresh install and update.
Hoppa replied to JaredB's topic in Operating Systems
Leave it on that black screen for like an hour. Happened to me when doing a fresh install of 8 Every 15min or so click the auto select input on your monitor to have a check. It should eventually boot into Windows (I think) -
dying Old PC vs new and wait for pascal?
Hoppa replied to raladin3D's topic in New Builds and Planning
If you wanted to save some money, you could harvest the PSU, SSD, HDD, and possibly the GPU from the old PC and use it in the new 1. Later on, when the new PC is built you could buy a new GPU if you need it. -
I was able to change PC's with different hardware (on an OEM license) I had the OS installed on the original PC, took out the drive and put it in the new PC. Then installed drivers associated with the new motherboard, got windows to re-calculate cores, and did a few other things. When I clicked re-activate windows it worked. The only things that changed hardware-wise was RAM, CPU, and motherboard Since then I've completely wiped the drive and installed a fresh OS.

Sometimes when overclocking, it can be harder to get a stable overclock when all dimms are populated as opposed to just 4. (at least it was the case with x58) A lot of people recommend getting the bigger ram size and fewer ram sticks because it leaves room for expansion and it's less work for the memory controller. EDIT: although having all dimms populated looks cooler

[Guide] 3D Printers: An Introduction to Buying and Using 3D Printers
Hoppa replied to Jaybird's topic in Guides and Tutorials
Awesome guide. I've been looking to buy a 3d printer for a long time. I would love to see a comparison table of current mainstream 3d printers specifying: price, printing resolution, accepted plastics, nozzle size, # of heads, printing dimensions, heated bed etc. That would be fantastic- 15 replies

The PSU cut power as soon as it happened. Then the PC automatically tried to turned itself back on which continued the spark and started the fire. I can't remember if it turned itself off again before I disconnected the ODD.

I had been using that adapter for years. I guess you never know... It could happen to any electronic device not just an adapter.

My pc randomly shut down as I was watching youtube and heard fizzing and saw sparks, and then fire where my adapter connects to my optical drive. I always heard people say that the adapters should not be a permanent solution. Although it could have been the optical drive. When the fire started I had to quickly disconnect the cable and blow out the flame before it got any worse. Not sure if I could have been electrocuted since there were no live wires. Now my whole room smells like poisonous plastic. It's a good thing I didn't have the optical drive inside the case, or better yet, had it on while I was not home or asleep.... would have burnt the whole house down.
