  1. Really not looking for certs, but thanks.
  2. There are tons of example questions around all over the place. Going through those will give you a good idea on what to study. Unfortunately it's mostly the boring stuff, like "what does the corona wire do in a printer?". Knowing how to build a computer and what all the parts are for is helpful, but it's a pretty small portion of the test. I don't mean to try and intimidate you with that, I'm just saying you should focus on learning some of the very general stuff. I do think you could do enough practice questions to pass the test (it's basically what I did), but my school did offer this course https://testoutce.com/products/comptia-a-training and I think the material could be pretty helpful.
  3. Holy hell man, the re-posts are real. Good on you for keeping things tidy.
  4. No, not yet. Would also be interested to hear Brandon's thoughts on it. Sam and Niko's comparison of the RED vs a $50 camera was really good though. (crap, now it seems like I'm straight up advertising for them...)
  5. Corridor's vlog/behind the Scenes channel follows a format of splitting between two stories throughout the video, which is why the mask stuff was there. It was a follow up to a previous video. But yeah, they make some good stuff. Great shorts on the main Corridor channel, and generally very interesting content on the Sam and Niko channel. And my own biased opinion is that while Linus has made it clear how they handle videos, I don't think they've strayed far from their usual values. Linus is okay with having some meh filler videos (the "SLI" Nvidia thumb drives, for example) in between more interesting content (like the Deadmau5 studio tour). I'm fine with that as well. At the end of the day, LMG is a company and they have employees to pay. Daily videos with clickbait thumbnails will do that. You can't exactly check out a quantum computer every day, so things need padding to work. Rant videos do happen, but they're few and far between, and from my own perspective, he's generally been pretty on point (for example, calling out Intel's BS with the i9 release). In the case of the actual RED video, I do think he was genuinely ignorant (I don't mean that in a mean way) on some of the things that were bought for the camera. Professional video production equipment has never been his forte, so I don't think it's too strange to think that he wouldn't know everything about it... Things could change in the future, but I think Linus is a pretty stand up guy and has been pretty blunt with how the channel has been handled. I don't think there's much to worry about. At the end of the day, I think Linus made a silly video ranting about production equipment that's completely overkill for his application... But overkill is what Linus does, so it's not like I'm judging them for it, hell my computer is comparatively even more stupid... But with that, I think it's fair to take judgement from people that REALLY know their shit when it comes to cinema equipment.
  6. I appreciate you merging reposts, but could we maybe keep the title that isn't inflammatory? I don't really want my name attached to "Why Linustechtips is Wrong" EDIT: Woops! Didn't realize I could still edit it myself. Don't mind me!
  7. Yeah I really enjoyed Linus' rant. It was just good fun. I also agree with most of what Corridor said, though I still don't think anything you say will justify a $240 cable... Really I'd just like to see them talk to each other and see what results from it. Both LTT and Corridor are some of my longest running Youtube subs.
  8. Shots fired @LinusTech, but seriously, I'd love to see these guys collab after this. lol
  9. Wasn't too sold on the braiding until I saw the red and black 24 pin at the end. That looks cool as heck.
  10. I guess the 1080 Tis are redundant... But GTX 980, to SLI GTX 770s, to GTX 670, to HD6970, to HD5770, and then I'm sure I have an old 8400gs lying around still. lol
  11. To be perfectly honest, 1440p 144hz isn't going to strain them very hard. Personally, I'm looking to upgrade to a 200hz ultrawide someday when I have money again. At that point, I feel like the cards will be a bit more justified. At the moment it's pure overkill without a lot of gain. lol
  12. My 1080 Tis feel overkill even at 3440x1440 100hz... At least in games that actually support SLI. You could easily get away with just a single 1080 Ti.
  13. I've never considered them to be important. I mostly just build PCs while wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and no socks. Avoid static-y clothing and you'll be fine.
  14. I've spent a LOT of time grinding for perk levels in the Killing Floor games. Probably took me 350 hours to max out everything in KF1... I've still got a long way to go in Killing Floor 2 after 160. Unsure if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. lol
  15. Holy hell man. Stumbled upon this build from Corsair sharing it on Facebook. Absolutely brilliant work on every level. Well done.
  16. I currently mount a 27" monitor above my 34" ultrawide and I like the setup alright so far. Here's my stand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BO42XK0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just keep in mind that the pole for this stand is very tall and may need to be cut to size if it bothers you. The shorter version of this stand may even work, but you'd have to check the measurements yourself.
  17. There are dozens of other, better games for doing exactly that. Hatred is mediocre in every way.
  18. This game is known for being poorly optimized. The performance you're getting isn't terribly surprising to me.
  19. Honestly, my Predator X34 (3440x1440 100hz) feels like a bottleneck for most games with a 1080 Ti... Don't bother with a 1080 Ti for anything under 2560x1440 144hz.
  20. As a person with SLI 1080 Tis and a 4790K... I don't think you're going to see much of a benefit from a CPU upgrade. At least not from the gaming perspective.
  21. Sounds like a hardware problem. Get a newer AC access point and an AC wireless adapter for your PC.
  22. It is not possible to SLI different cards. The 1080 and 1080 Ti aren't even based on the same chip.
  23. I also strongly recommend Ublock Origin over any other ad blocker.
  24. As a pure gaming machine, performance is just fine. I could probably pick up a few frames here and there, but frankly Intel has moved so slow in the last 5 years that any recent i7 is going to be good enough. I can't give any dates on card releases, but I would expect to see them within the month. Have some patience. I promise the wait will be worth it.
  25. GPU overclocks tend to not be worth it, in my opinion, especially with GPU Boost 3.0. However, if you don't plan on liquid cooling, definitely wait for the vendor coolers. The noise and temperatures will be much easier to live with.
