Hi everyone,
Amazon.com has got a new Asus laptop F510UA for $499 which seems to be a very nice deal for the configuration.
Here is link to Amazon.
Everything about this laptop is good except the fact that this has 5400RPM HDD, but good news is that it has a vacant M.2 2280 slot, so you can easily pop in an SSD to make it a $1000 laptops that are being sold.
Now the confusion with the laptop is that, users who have got the laptop have NOT been able to successfully install an SSD in it.
Everyone is confused if the slot is M.2 SATA3 Slot or M.2 NVMe Slot.
One of the user firmly said that it is NVMe but putting in a NVMe Samsung 960 drive caused it to overheat and shut the system down. It was not even detected in BIOS.
Here is the deal thread.
This $499 laptop has the latest quad-core Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB DDR4, smaller footprint for 15.6" IPS display, fingerprint and light weight.
(Intel itself lists 8250U for $297 )
If anyone has successfully installed any M.2 SSD in this laptop or if Linus could help find out how to do so, that'd be helpful for a lot of people (including me ).
