I don't think that any of their proposed policy changes complies with the spirit of the DMA.
I hope that the Commission will fine Apple the full  10% of the total worldwide annual turnover for their malicious compliance.

By the way this year is an election year for the European parliament. I encourage all you Europeans out there to write and complain to your representatives, or even call them:

I still find it mind blowing that people on this forum will defend the world's richest and most powerful company when they are restricting choise for their consumers and abusing their partners and developers.

This is clearly not following the spirit of the law, and I wouldn't be surprised if the EU will force them do change their approach. On the bright side, they lowered the commissions.

What I really can't wrap my head around is how people can have been fooled into thinking that the chances the EU are proposing would result in chaos and a bad user experience. That's just a massive lie that Apple is trying to push because they don't want to lose potential revenue and lose control over their customers.
If you think everyone will go under then I'd like to direct your attention to MacOS. MacOS is essentially the same as what the EU want iOS to become. Does MacOS have a massive issue with malware, scam apps and such? No it doesn't. What does MacOS allow you to do that iOS doesn't allow you to do? Sideload apps, install third party stores, change your browser, use alternative payment methods in apps, and a bunch of other things.
Isn't it amazing that none of the things Apple are saying will happen on iOS haven't happened on MacOS? It's almost as if these hypothetical threats Apple is trying to convince people are real are unlikely to occur...

I have a fairly newly built loop for my TR Pro 5975wx system with an all copper Quantum Magnitude (they don't make this one anymore) CPU block. That chip is rated at 280W. I wanted to overclock it and contacted EK to see how much I could push it and they said, and I quote.

    Hello again,

    sorry for the late reply.
The water block should handle 330W.
Check what kind of contact you have between the CPU and the water block.

So, that's only 330W. I would have thought the all copper version would handle more than 330W. I'm bummed because I have all the parts to build my 7975wx system, but now I have to find a new waterblock.

Wait you'll be doing 3d render work?

If so amd gpu's are entirely out of the running by default as they offer NO hardware accelerstion in 3d applications AT ALL. Its all on the cpu. A basic nvidia rtx card renders OVER 10x faster making renders that take minutes take seconds hours to minutes and such. It makes a MASSIVE difference.

Basically nvidia has had mobile market gpu dominance for like 20 years and thata doesnt change too quick.

Also amd gpu's are currently less efficient. In desktop use thats fine but in laptops that is a BIG DEAL

When i made my suggestions I specifically excluded large-diaphragm mics like the NT1 as they usually pick up more unwanted off axis noise. They also often suffer from a proximity effect.

I would suggest you search for vocal demos of the suggested mics on Youtube and chose the model, you like best.

That is already a good mic you have there. If you want to stick with a dynamic mic like the one you have, I would suggest you take a look at the Rode Procaster or the Electro-Voice RE320. If you can get a good deal, the Electro-Voice RE20 would be even better.

A bit on the pricey side is also the good old Shure SM7B.

My final suggestion is a Sennheiser MKE 600. That one would be perfect if you want to have the greatest distance between you and the mic while still having low ambient sounds.

Lets not talk about "best" distros but about the right distro for you!

My simple advice is to go with Linux Mint (Cinnamon Edition).

You most likely come from Windows so the UI will be familiar. It is very stable, has great Software support and all Support articles written for Ubuntu (that's the foundation for Mint) work.

I switched from Windows to Mint a few years ago and I still love it. Lately I even got rid of my last Windows VM...

The problem with this list is that there are no blocks for custom loops mentioned...

There are other, cheaper non full nickel versions available. I just linked to this one as a standin for the whole lineup.

Does anyone know of benchmarks comparing these? I did quite a bit of research on them before posting and wasn't able to find anything about the Pro lineup...

I'm not sure if all sTRX4 waterblocks are compatiable with sTR%. But AMD does have a list of compatible coolers for threadripper 7000: https://www.amd.com/en/thermal-solutions-threadripper

The EK-Quantum Magnitude block is full nickel, which makes it look very nice in a gaming or high end desktop, but doesn't actually affect performance. But it does have a more tuned so that it can better cool the 4 CCDs.

The two EK-Pro waterblocks are essentially the same, but they are made of nickel and plastic to make them cheaper because servers don't need to have pretty looking waterblocks. The Rack one is designed for 1U servers, which is 1.75" tall.

Overall I think the performance will be pretty similar between the 3 of them, however the EK-Quantum Magnitude might be better by a few degrees. But I'm not really sure it would be worth that much extra money for a few degrees. Plus it may not end up being compatibale with 7th gen Threadripper.

Yeah, you'll need to pick between speed or capacity. Major reports of faster ECC DIMMs seem to be only for lower capacity ones:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ddr5/overclockable-server-class-ecc-ram-options-expand-as-amd-threadripper-chips-arrive-gskill-introduces-zeta-r5-neo-ddr5-6400-rdimms

That's your best option tbh. Anyhow, those benchmarks were enough to show that those TRs are beasts, however, AMX still has the upper hand for CPU inference if that's one major concern of yours.

Yeah, for stuff like LLAMA and other LLMs memory bandwidth does make tons of difference, so going for more channels will be better.
    Image generation not so much.

You didn't mention what GPU you have, nor which games, resolution and target framerate you want. Anyhow, any of those modern WS CPUs should do the job well enough as long as you are not targeting 200hz+ in competitive games.

Phoronix has some benchmarks on CPU inference:
    https://openbenchmarking.org/suite/pts/machine-learning
    https://openbenchmarking.org/test/pts/tensorflow&eval=710d858e39b9394d3d7af3968973103c64ef880e#metrics

Just pick a case that's similar to yours and you should have a pretty nice idea of what to look for.

So, either the new TRs or the SR Xeon WS.
It really depends on what kind of dataset and model you're working on. It may make a ton of difference, or no difference at all.
Do keep an eye on phoronix for their tests. Depending on your model/datset/framework, Intel may have a lead with their AVX512 implementation + accelerators built into the CPU.
The access patterns of your dataset during your inferences are more relevant than the dataset size itself tbh, could you give some details on that?

Thanks for your suggestions. From what I heard in the news coverage about the Threadripper launch, no benchmarks for the HEDT parts are available, yet. I've only seen numbers for the 96 core Pro variant. So I will definitely wait for more information when it comes out. This is just to get some preliminary feedback about my plans and find out if i missed something in my research up to this point.

My biggest question is about the effects the 4 additional Ram channels would have on working with very large datasets. But this probably can't be answered until the benchmarks are available.

The NH-D15 is probably to small to properly cover the heatspreader. I will likely need something else. If I go the water-cooling route I will definitely use something like a Leakshield.

From what I've gathered, 7000 TR PRO are super expensive and designed for server task
The just announced HEDT TR (non PRO) 7000 to be released in Nov23 could be better for you, the "midrange" chip (7970X) 32C/64T will be $2.5K and may be what you need
The "top" model 64C/128T will be $5K so over your budget...
Regarding cooling not sure what can cool 350W, but I won't put a watercooling in a production PC if things run overnight or such
