With fewer CUs and less VRAM for less money. The packaging design is also cheaper for AMD and it'll be cheaper to design coolers for AIBs since they can recycle their Navi 32 coolers for the 7900 GRE given the same maximum TBP and same packaging.

    Summary

AMD has launched the Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) GPU previously rumoured to be called RX 7900. This GPU features a Navi 31 die on Navi 32's packaging process with a 256 Bit memory bus and 16GB of G6 VRAM. This card has an MSRP of $649.

    Key specs are as follows:
80 RDNA3 CUs - 5120 Stream Processors 16GB 18Gbps G6 Memory on a 256 bit bus with 4x MCDs along with 2x Dummy MCDs that are there for other reasons. 64MB Infinity Cache 260W TBP
The die layout and packaging uses Navi 32's layout with 4 MCDs and the additional memory controllers required to support additional MCDs have been physically fused off at the die level.

This GPU features 4 Billion fewer transistors than Navi 31's normal die. (54 Billion vs 58 Billion).

It is presently launching in China and seems to also be coming to at least some prebuilts. There is no word yet whether a launch outside of China is to be expected.

This is also expected to be the same packaging used on the leaked RX 7900M XT, assuming that laptop OEMs choose to bid on that GPU.

I'm not super surprised that this is China exclusive for now however it would be interesting to see if it is launched globally however the limited number of the reject N31 dies may mean this aren't enough for a global launch. The pricing seems to be a bit high tbh though AMD could always correct this later if the RX 7900XT and 7900XTX get prices cuts at the launch of the leaked upcoming RX 7700 and RX 7800 cards.

AlTech got a reaction from benny_r_t_2 in Google proposes turning browsers into DRM software for the web | Ending AD Blocking for all browsers
    Summary

Unsatisfied to allow 3rd party browser makers besides Google to override Manifest V3's neutering of ADs, Google has initiated a new proposal to end AD Blocking forever.

Their proposal is called "Web Environment Integrity" and essentially means websites will be able to query web browsers to ask if they have had their Environment Integrity Verified, meaning that a Browser needs to verify that the User is using a device that is approved by the Attester in order to access the website.

Attesters will be OS or Browser based and will give Websites a verification value based on factors about the device and the web browser being used

For Android, running a rooted device will provide a value indicating it is not verified.

Browsers that don't implement this may simply not function with websites relying on a Verification value.

There has been no guidance on who will be Attesters

It is expected that attestation services provided by Google may consider any amount of AD blocking worthy of triggering a low verification value essentially meaning the environment won't be trusted by the website.

Put simply if a website requires this they can force you to disable AD blocking in order to view the website and if you don't then you won't be able to use the website.

This could also extent to using phones after they stop getting security updates, using unpopular or unofficial browsers, using devices with custom OSes or firmware.

The browser becomes the DRM engine.

I would guess the RK3399 is faster. Tho it's worth noting that the PinePhone Pro uses the RK3399S which is a modified version of the RK3399 to run at lower wattage and to generate less heat. The performance of the RK3399S is probably around 10-15% weaker than the standard RK3399.

Partially true but distance selling in the UK by buying online would give OP a 14 day return policy.

So if the GPU's a dud or the OP changes his/her mind it provides more flexibility.

AlTech got a reaction from Levent in Is CeX UK a good website?
Their sales people are not IT professionals. They're people who may have a passion for tech or gaming and work there.

Perhaps the store near you treats customers rudely but I've never had that experience. If anything, in my experience the CeX staff have been more than happy to admit when they don't know something and encourage customers to check online.
If you handle enough used inventory, you'll eventually run into defective products. It happens. It's how they deal with it that matters.
They have experience shipping CPUs. Presumably they don't break a ton of CPUs they sent to customers cos it would be bad for business.
They offer a convenient way to get rid of things that might cost you money to get rid of on eBay.

Sometimes selling on eBay is more profitable but you're getting charged eBay fees and sometimes items don't sell for weeks or ever. CeX are willing to buy any item they list a WeBuy price for so long as it meets their standards and grading requirements.

Are you losing some value by not selling it yourself on eBay? Yes. But often it can be worth it if you don't have an eBay Account set up or one with limited feedback.
    That's not ripping you off.

Amazon may not give you a 2 year warranty on a used SSD.

CeX don't update their prices as frequently as Amazon do . Amazon updates prices multiples times per day if not per hour.

CeX prices are determined by their pricing team which update the prices often weekly or even multiple times within a week.

If a price stays the same for a few weeks it means they're happy with the price.
If you sell enough used CPUs eventually one of them will be defective. It happens.

AlTech got a reaction from Levent in Is CeX UK a good website?
I've bought used RAM from CeX a few times. One time the RAM died and I returned it within their warranty period. They gave me a voucher for the current value of the RAM and I was able to buy replacement RAM from them though you can spend the voucher on anything else from CeX.

This is their policy for anything that's not consumable I.e. anything besides some of their weird powdered energy drinks they sell.

So if you buy a GPU from them and it develops a major fault like lines on the screen or dies you'd be able to take it back to CeX and they'd give you a voucher for the current WeSell price of the item.

They may not necessarily take your word for it, I think they do test to see if something is actually broken but if it is they'll reimburse you the current WeSell price.

They intend to be able to make that decision otherwise their terms would preclude them from doing so.

They are not innocent in this matter. If they really never intend to do it then they should have no problem updating their TOS to say it'll never happen.

Keeping it in their TOS means they want to be able to use it. Which means they are in the wrong.
