Success. I was accepted for the card at the 60% APR and given a more than reasonable credit limit:D.

This is so exciting.

Quick question, why do you need a credit card instead of a debit, especially with this incredibly bad APR?

Building my credit score and proving to the credit reference agencies that I'm not irresponsible and risky so that I can get better credit cards and then use more credit for things.

In the long term, it'll make it easier if I need a loan or if I need a credit card for putting down details like at a Hotel or car rental place. And ultimately a greater credit score will help me buy a house or a car in a number of years if I want to.

Using credit responsibly is super important though, as Graham says in the YT videos I sometimes link. His advice is if you know you can't use credit responsibly to stick with debit because mishandling credit is worse than not applying for it and sticking with debit.

And also, when I was approved, they asked me to set up a Direct Debit and how I wanted the card to be paid off (e.g. full amount each month, just the minimums) and I went with the full amount each month so that there's no chance of me getting into nasty debt.

The supermarket credit card I failed the soft credit check for had pretty okay rewards and cashback :P. I would consider them okay xD

what's your opinion on this and whether the credit score is needed at all?

@CUDAcores89 So as a general rule do you disagree with Ramsey's principles or do you agree but believe that you have the know how to be the one out of 10k people the company has to take some loss on?

@CUDAcores89 Fair enough. I've been the most for a while now, but we're getting past the bad discipline and starting to set up budgets and get far more involved with our money
