That's a very defining age: Most teens that age will quickly learn to get by with what they already have and a few priviledged ones with terrible parents will develop a great sense of entitlement and general bad attitude. But if you have to ask I'm pretty sure you're the former.
 
Here's a story: as a kid of course I constantly asked my parents for gaming consoles and such but when I was your age and was old enough to know things were difficult with money and I couldn't just ask for toys (Working was out of the question my family valued education way too much and went through great hardships to provide it for me for me to not do excellent in school) I was eventually drawn to PC gaming. I never got any console after the SNES but I learned to first trade my old games and eventually get great games on the PC via shareware and yes piracy as well I'm not afraid to admit. However it is because of it that I know not only became a huge PC gamer that spends a lot of cash on the hobby but also learned to appreciate things that others consider entry level and know that doing your homework before buying something can net you something cheap without being of vastly inferior quality or performance and I apply this to every area of my life.

You must make sure that all components are compatible with OS X. So I'm guessing the new Pentium is not an option.

Those standard RGB 5050 leds you can buy on ebay with a controller and a remote. You can get a molex to round connector thingy to install it in the pc, or get a wall adapter:
