  1. Macs are PCs , this whole Mac and PC difference is more or less created by a marketing team for the lay person, similar to how iPads are marketed as being something other than tablets.
  2. Pool the money from all the facets of your life, i.e. birthday/christmas/allowance, plus a part time job and you'll have that comp in no time. To make that waiting less painful. treat the time it takes you to actually earn that money as a research period and refine your build til it's exactly where you want it to be.
  3. Mine was some frankensteined thing that ran ms dos only. Good ol' days of /run Aladdin and Lion King. It was the family computer my brother brought home one day, it blew my mind out of the water.
  4. In all fairness to the parents on facebook, facebook has only been around since 2004, so their kids aren't teenagers yet, that being said though, parenting does suck now a days. Instead of taking responsibility for their lack of parenting and guidance they're blaming other people or things for it. This "but it can't be me" attitude is ridiculous, because every deplorable situation involving children/teens/young adults must have been due to some external reason............................right? <_<
  5. I agree completely with your statement regarding competition creating innovation, all this talk about what if nVidia opened up their doors or AMD and nVidia becoming a some big conglomeration is wishful thinking. Take for example titan, the topic has been beaten to death whether it was suppose to be the gtx 780 or the titan release was planned all along. I believe the general consensus that A. it would have been the gtx 780, and B. the only reason it isn't is because AMD dropped the ball. It took AMD almost 10 months later to play catch up. My point here is that if nVidia had competition at the time, we wouldn't have had a half-ass launch of the GK110 that raped and pillaged the consumer, and we might have had maxwell a bit sooner. That's what happens when there is no competition. Beyond this, the real big issue is these technologies, yes they're great and yes the consumer wins in the end. However, they're trying to use these technologies to differentiate themselves instead of producing a better product. I.e. tressFX, Physx, Mantle, G-Sync. All of these technologies are great in their own regard, but these technologies could theoretically be done by either vendor. In the end it's them trying to create a marketing difference that's tangible to the layman, i.e. instead of looking at numbers and benchmarks, the person shopping looks and sees for example TressFX or PhysX and says wow the hair looks more real with this card or the physics using this card becomes super realistic. In the end when we shop for a card what does it boil down too? It's about the performance, if one card strictly performs better at that price range, you're going to get it. You're not going to be worrying about pretty hair and realistic particles if you're getting 30% less frames. In regards to APU's and such being the future of computing, I think were forgetting about things like GRID and shield, I believe that will be the future of high powered computing. One computer to rule them all so to speak. I think nVidia releasing shield is an attempt to get us to warm up to the idea of this kind of cloud computing. If it becomes a seamless enough experience you can have amazing performance on a pretty and slim laptop. While the real computing is done off-site whether in your home in a personal grid or thousands of KM away.
  6. 770 is a fine choice you're over thinking this way to much, AMD cards are almost out of the question due to their price hike. It boils down to whether you want to drop the cash for a 770 or a 760, it's up to you to decide whether the extra money worth it or not.
  7. Anything pass dual cards usually doesn't scale well, always pick the best 2 cards you can get if you want to run SLI/CF.
  8. Asus DCUII are nice and quiet, much quieter than the reference coolers. I went from that to reference 780ti, i sometimes feel like I bought muffled hair blowers.
  9. My sentiments on this whole thread exactly, without actually pointing out whats going on here. Good popcorn read nevertheless. The only thing that irked me here was the little semantics blurb behind "full details". A cup is full, therefore it is filled to the max. I am done my rant. Thank you.
  10. It's going to be a long wait bc they're always looking to grab more cards to add to their mining collection.
  11. Sources? Cause last source I read said it would be delayed until about Q2, so I expected announcment Q2 with Maxwell in someones hand by early Q3.
  12. Everyone seems to forget, that the r9 series of cards was release pretty much at the end of the fiscal year, whereas titan/7xx series was released in the beginning/middle. That is a lot of time for nVidia sitting around and twiddling their thumbs. Furthermore, if it was the case that the 680 was nVidia's reaction due to the 7970 being lackluster, than that means they've had a long, long time to sit around and mull life and its meaning over. Upon release of the r9 cards their reply was "hey fully unlocked gk110". I think the only person who was sweating was Jen-Hsun during the 780ti announcment. (Brothers head is always so shiny with oil). nVidia doesn't have their panties in a bunch, Jen-Hsun is probably going to step on a stage in 3 months itme and be like behold the worlds fastest graphics card GTX 880, 4gb of ram blah blah blah amazing blah blah blah, faster than the gtx 780 ti the worlds previously fastest graphics card by blah. The price tag will be only an arm, a leg, and your first born child.
  13. That's one thing i found odd, around my neck of the woods finding an r9 card is hard enough and then paying for an r9 card is another matter 780 and the r9 290 have the exact same price. I find it difficult to recommend a 290 at that price point, and thats just for a reference ones. I agree the cryptocoin craze is ridiculous.
  14. A 5450 is an artifact? Damn..
