It looks the same physically but it s not compatible at all with current CPUs. Intel calls this socket LGA 2011-3 (current one is -2).

I would go with Raid 6 / RAID-Z2, i probably wouldnt render on a storage rig anyway.

I'm not sure about the actual hardware of the NAS tho. Probably something along the line of i3 + 8gb ram, standard or micro atx board @ freeNAS. Maybe a case like the Fractal Design Define Mini

He shouldnt cheap out on the drives either 6-7 WD Reds 4TB should give enough space. Look for a mainboard with enough sata ports.

If on a budget maybe start with the minimum needed drives for the desired raid option.

I'm currently using an ASUS PB298q which is the 29inch 21:9 variant of the ASUS PB278q. Mine does 120hz if i set it manually, maybe the 27inch one does that too, could be worth a try. Also these Panel don't use PWM for dimming, which means there is none of the headache inducing pwm flimmer.

I don't say this often, but get a soundcard. The cheapest one with the features you need. A Xonar DX would probably do.

All these guys saying to not get a soundcard are just parroting the typical rhetoric without even recognizing that this is one of those situations where you need one (shoddy/broken onboard, surround sound speakers, etc).

First of all did you use a SSD before? Also i would probably reinstall Windows 8 from scratch, most laptops come with tons of programms nobody needs.

Clear. Not much point to coloured coolant with copper pipes, and if I use coloured
coolant the copperized reservoir can't really be shown off either. Plus clear coolant
makes much less of a mess when I spill something while tinkering with my loop. ;)
At least that's the plan at the moment.

The Intel Core i7-3930K has 6 cores.  It's the better choice for hardcore editing/rendering

(The i7-3960X and 3970X are the same CPU as the 3930K)

    Welcome to the forums!

I wouldn't really choose my monitor depending on how powerful (atleast if it can drive it anyway) my graphicscard is. Choose whatever fits your pocket and desk :D

Z77 is a chipset for a socket 1155 mainboard which works for both Sandy- and Ivy-bridge.
Z87 is a chipset for a socket 1150 mainboard which works for haswell and haswell refresh and probably broadwell

    On Topic:

I wouldn't choose my motherboard depending on the software gimmicks. Choose which one has all the connectors, ports and hardware "gimmicks". If both got them, choose them depending on looks. You will probably soon discover that their software stuff is mostly for show and trash it. And the halfway decent stuff can be replaced by even better dedicated software.

The Asrock extreme 6 looks like a better option dual intel nic, 2 usb 3 headers on the board (4 usb ports, comes with  Front USB 3.0 Panel with 2.5" HDD/SSD Rack), wireless if u go for the extreme6/ac for $10 more on newegg, 10x sata 3 (6 gbps) instead of 8 on the gigabyte and personally the color scheme is much much better than the red on the gigabyte.

That been said both should perform very good since both brands make awesome boards.

That's because Asrock used to only make low-end motherboard, and to be fair those were still amazing mobos for the price. Now they do cheap motherboards as well as high-end and the high-end mobos are up there with MSI, ASUS, and Gigabyte in terms of quality, performance, and features. They don't really make low-quality products, just low cost. They are great if you're on a budget.

Everything else will be tweaked to make the show flow better and be as enjoyable as possible.. We are listening.

UPDATE: We are doing away with live callers during The WAN Show except for special celebrity guests. This segment will be moved to the afterparty. We are also evaluating what to do on the afterparty. Maybe retro gaming isn't our thing. Give us time to percolate on this one.
