I think the 770s would be nice. I'm not sure what the best impedance would be best for an electric piano but as far as sound goes there wouldn't be much difference. The 80 ohm version is probably pretty safe. Of course if you don't want closed cans the 770s would not be the best.

To be perfectly honest I hate the feel of Yamaha actions but there isn't really anything wrong with them pre se. If you have tried the models you mention and like them, you'll probably be well-served by either. Aside from the silence, you won't have to deal with maintenance of an acoustic instrument which I can assure you is a pain.

AKG K612 might be a good choice for listening to classical instruments/ music.
They have a little more bass than the K701 and K702 (which sort of have resessed bass), but still a good sound signature and good mids and highs

    +1 Friggin love my K612's.

Then again, they're not really portable headphones..... OP, would you consider getting two cheaper headphones for different purposes? Some IEMs for portable use, and some comfy open 'phones for home?

I suspect that something from the Beyerdynamic DT line would be more comfortable than the over-recommended ATH-M50, especially for those long practice sessions. The AKG K612 is also a good suggestion.

As a side note, I recommend that you consider an acoustic piano (or one of the Yamaha silent models) if you are a serious student. A digital piano just doesn't compare to a mechanical action and that will hold back your technique.

cogeary got a reaction from Brownfield1995 in Could I use a wireless router to pick up another wireless located in another room of my house?
Yes, it should be possible to achieve what you want to do. The way it's done and terminology used varies a lot with the manufacturer/firmware of the router; however, basically you can either (1) connect the router to existing wifi and connect your desktop through ethernet to the router, or (2) connect the router to existing wifi and set it up to extend the signal, so you'll have a strong enough wireless connection to your desktop. I'll cautiously call (1) a wireless bridge and (2) a wireless access point, but... it's confusing (to me at least ).
Since the process can vary so much, the first thing to do would be to log in to the buffalo router and see if you can find anywhere to alter the "wireless mode" or similar. You could also try googling the name of the router + wireless bridge/access point to see if anything comes up (router documentation is good if you can find it).
For more help, if you can tell us name/model of the router then we can see what we can do...

Man does that article remind me of one of my teachers, mainly because he referred to students as digital natives. He used the term more so to express our quick and easy access to information compared to past generations. Its really sad we don't utilize this tool more though. IMO, everyone should have a cheap backup computer (RPi?) to do quick IT searches before defaulting to a techie. The value of knowing things like re-installing an OS, however, no matter how fundamental, is worthless to your everyday Joe. I'm more of a hardware guy myself, but software doesn't easily scare me. I will never again replace a laptop LCD though. I have hands way too big for that. I don't expect people to have a deeper knowledge of computers anymore than I do myself with cars. (Well, with my knowledge of them, I could probably solve the problem myself, but its much easier to go to a mechanic.) I hate it when I go to work and hear some of my coworkers complaining about kids that are on their computers too much, being introverted. There's nothing wrong with introverts, but society seems to demonize them. Either way, just because there's little physical interaction with other people doesn't mean that the person is introverted. Forums and other social places online are no replacement for irl contact with other people, though, just supplements. The general public is way to susceptible to overgeneralizing stereotypes. I would have hoped for better, but that is the sad reality we live in. Its disgusting and repulsive how we have so many who claim to be "experts" and yet know nothing beyond the shallow surface of their "field". (I think Linus had something related to this on the liveshow, which I unfortunately miss every week due to work.) We live in a world in which specialization is vital to maintaining the complexity that exists and allow everyone access to it, but we have lost respect for those who specialize in something other than what we do. Hopefully in the long run the Internet will be able to change this, but niche communities already form here. People need to want to mix. Niche communities are awesome, don't get me wrong, but I think they will stifle the Internet's ability to bring people in different lines of work closer together. I have no idea how to get people to treat mechanics, IT people, nerds, geeks, etc. with more respect.

I plan on buying a (current generation) Raspberry Pi for my kids when they turn 5-6 years old, and simply giving it to them with basic instructions (either my own, or any manuals available), and let them figure it out. If they have trouble, they can ask me. If not, no big deal.

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat it for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll feed himself for a lifetime".

Why a (current gen) Raspberry Pi? (Assuming I'd have kids in 3-4 years and add on 5-6 more, it'll be way outdated) I want to teach them to not only learn to use technology by themselves, but to also learn to appreciate the power of outdated technology, and to understand just what computers CAN do with the available resources. Sure, programs outgrow hardware all the time, but even old hardware is capable of doing so much more than people claim it can do. By using a high end computer from the get-go, you end up taking computing power for granted and not appreciating the true power of even the most basic of computers.

Hi guys I just wanted to share my thoughts about Google I/O and how it affects Apple.

First of all I would just like to say that I am a bit of an Apple guy, I own an iPhone, iPad, and iMac. However that does not mean I dislike Google in anyway, in fact I really like them because of how they develop apps for iOS.

Google came out with some pretty neat stuff at I/O with their new music streaming service and the S4 "Nexus edition". But one thing I did notice was the support of iOS devices. Take Google Hangouts for example, works across iOS and Android. Google now, works across iOS, Android and now Chrome. Google Maps, etc.

Then there was that game demo which was more of a proof of concept than anything else where the track cars would race across all the different device screens and this included an iPhone and iPad.

When they demoed something on the desktop the computer they used was a Mac.

They then announced how Google play would work across iOS as well as Android.

My point here is I believe Google isn't trying to compete with Apple, rather collaborate to make the world more advanced with technology.

When Larry Page made his final speech it was very inspirational and he made many points about the industry as it is. He said smartphones are very expensive and they tried narrowing that gap with the Nexus 4. The fact that the raw components of a smartphone are so cheap, pennies almost. Have you actually ever thought about how little silicon and glass actually goes into a phone?

One line he mentioned was this:

"Being negative is not how we make progress"

Maybe we should get out of this habit of saying how Android is better than iOS, or Windows is better than Mac, or Samsung is better than HTC etc. Rather than this constant arguing maybe companies should start working together like Google does with Apple. Larry Page even stated that they had clashes with Microsoft and Oracle but they hope they can sort things.

Personally I think if Apple started providing services for Android phones that they would be in a much better position, maybe stuff like iCloud support or even something like iPhoto. I know this isn't how Apple works with the "walled garden" approach.

I think its time for change in the tech industry whether it be Apple being more open, Microsoft listening to consumers, Google providing more updates and support etc.

After Google I/O I noticed Google's share price shoot up to $900 whereas Apple's dropped to $400. I think share holders have got it all wrong, the companies aren't trying to compete how they think they are. If anything Google is helping Apple.

This is coming from a pretty big Apple user. I am interested in seeing the direction tech companies go and not battling it out with other users of another platform. I would like to see your opinions on this as I know many of you are Windows, Android and iOS users, plus a few Mac guys. So it would be interesting to see everyones point of view.

Yeah I'm hoping my contact will phone me tonight so we can work out the details.

Shows are a real challenge for us because we don't want to pay up front, produce the content, then *hope* that we'll be able to sell enough advertising to cover the trip. I want a few guys to step up and sponsor us to be there in order to make it worthwhile.

If I can lock up a gold sponsor (looks like we might be talking right now...) then there's a VERY good chance we'll be there.
