  1. New cable came, and now I can set it to 100Hz in the NCP so guess that was the issue. Now I know not to cheap out.
  2. Can't seem to find anything related to changing the refresh rate in there though
  3. So I just received my new Samsung C34J79 Ultrawide. Looks all fancy and lovely etc. But on plugging it into my PC, in the monitor's settings it says the Recommended Resolution is 3440x1440 at 60hz, and in Windows it's stuck at 50hz. The specs advertise this everywhere as a 100hz monitor. It's a Freesync monitor, but I don't know if this is related as others have said they have had it running at 100hz out-of-the-box, running Nvidia cards. In the Nvidia Control Panel and in Windows Advanced Display Settings they both say it's running at 50hz, and I can't find anywhere to change this. I've tried running custom resolutions at 60hz and 100hz, but it's just totally unstable. I'm running a GTX 1080 with up-to-date drivers, with a Displayport 1.2 cable, and according to the monitor's onboard menu it's running at DP 1.2. It's a cheapish cable though, I've got a Vesa Certified DP 1.4 cable on order, guess I'll see if that fixes anything when it arrives on Thursday. If anyone has any other ideas as to how I can get my 100hz, I'd greatly appreciate your input (Pun intended). George

  5. @LinusTech @Slick Video idea suggestion. (Not a review item but just not sure where else to post this) I'd like to see a video on Desktop Noise Reduction, but not like the Silent Build Guides you've already done. I mean take a bog standard system (i5, 1060, stock fans, budget PSU, Stock Cooler, 1 HDD, Non-Silent Case etc) and add cheap modifications to make it as quiet as possible, without replacing the core components (I.e. the focus being on the modifications and not component choices). Would be interesting to explore a variety of ways to reduce noise from all the loud components, and I feel like this would fit in nicely with Luke's Workshop series of videos

  7. My school's security system blocks things on a White-List basis, and unblocks sites from there that are deemed safe/relevant for education etc. It doesn't feel too restricted, but there are a lot of websites blocked because of this system. Naturally Facebook and Twitter etc; LTT forum sadly; Youtube oddly not, it is a good teaching resource to be fair. Sadly though this system means all VPN servers are blocked, so I have yet to find a go-around. I'd be interested to try out Remote Desktop Access and have my home Desktop turned on while at school, and access sites that way with a VPN running on that to access pretty much everything. I leave this year, and make it my aim to crack the school's system before I go, ideally not illegally. Ideally.
  8. There's been a lot of demand for a GTX 970 with a Reference cooler like on the old 780Ti and Titan cards, and now OcUK are exclusively offering a legitimate version of this, for £319.99 GBP ($505.12 USD; $571.28 CAD Straight conversions). I don't know if OcUK ships internationally, but it's nice to see manufacturers giving us what we want! Also it has a pretty nice I/O with 3xDP, 1xHDMI and 1 Dual Link DVI.
