Throwing together spare parts for a birthday present
ImBleu replied to ImBleu's topic in New Builds and Planning
AMD pricing is more expensive here because AMD has a very low market share so the AMD parts arent the easiest to find and because of the limited supply, tend to be more expensive. An R9 295x2 is still more expensive here than a GTX Titan XP, for example. The RX470 is more expensive than a GTX1060 here so not really worth it in terms of the price. -
Throwing together spare parts for a birthday present
ImBleu replied to ImBleu's topic in New Builds and Planning
My plan is to get this as cheap as possible as a system for Him and then I can gift him upgrades such as the second stick of ram (why I went for 1x 8GB for that reason) and the SSD can be cloned later as a $50 upgrade. Thanks for the ideas though -
So I have a few spare parts as I upgrade my system every generation (Yes, I'm wasteful). Unfortunately will need to buy a few random parts as well so need a quick appraisal on everything. Going for small ITX system that is capable, WIFI is required. Here are the parts I was considering: Intel Core i3-6300 (Already own) Intel stock CPU cooler (Already own) Literally a metric stack of Corsair fans (Already own) Adata Premier DDR4 1x8GB (Already own) Seagate Barracuda 2TB (Already own) Windows 10 Pro (Already own) New parts (open for deliberation): Gigabyte H170N-WiFi Mini-ITX Motherboard CoolerMaster G450M Modular 450W PSU Fractal Design Core 500 Case Inno3D GTX1050Ti 4GB OC Compact GPU Thoughts overall? Plan is to get my boyfriend into PC Gaming. Games to play are going to be reasonably easy such as Portal 2, Minecraft etc but will also include a couple things such as Watch_dogs 2 & GTA V.

So by chance I came across this thread: Now this has me ever so slightly worried as I currently (as I type this on said computer) run a loop using EK PETG tubing with EK Ekoolant Pastel White (diluted with 3 parts distilled water). Ive done some searching through EK's website and NOWHERE on either the Ekoolant page nor PETG page does it mention anything about incompatibilities but I often see EK Ekoolant's name thrown under the bus as being a glycol based fluid, in which case I want to drain my loop of this crap ASAP. Can someone please shed some light before my computer (potentially) fries itself? https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-hd-petg-tube-10-12mm-500mm-2pcs https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-ekoolant-pastel-white-concentrate-250ml Thanks!

I'm using a monoblock not a cpu waterblock so I have removed the "northbridge" heatsinks. -

Would that not cost almost the same price as a new radiator? They're only $79 for a new one. -
As the title says, my case JUST couldn't fit my radiator + fans because it was 5mm too thick. I removed the fan filter bracket (15mm thick) because I didn't need it as it was an exhaust and therefore had to drill holes into my case to line up the radiator (EKWB Coolstream PE 360). On screwing the radiator into the case I accidentally managed to puncture one of the tubes inside the radiator (the hole in less than 1m x 1m, it's tiny but it leaks water nonetheless. I know I am screwed but is there anything I can do about it? I really don't want to wait a week for another delivery from EKWB to get a new radiator and my computer is currently lying in pieces on the table as I can't use it as I've put my GPU block and Motherboard Monoblock on already. @EK Luc@EK_Derick

Very old post dude. I've got a Lianli PC-O7SX now.

It won't work based on air dynamics. The fans will have too much resistance against dirty air which will wear out the bearings. If stacking fans worked, more people would do it. The only exception to this rule is with radiators etc in the way. You'll notice an increase in sound and power (minimal) but no performance increase. Because you're dealing with a confined space (a case that isn't going to be over a couple cubic liters) the fan being next to the card or 5'' away really wont make any difference.

I have a very similar monitor to the LG one and have had no issues whatsoever with it - it is a DREAM and really well done. I have a 1070, so I'm a tier above you in terms of gpu horsepower and have no issues with GTA maxed out (however you'll have horrible FPS in grass so I'd recommend turning the setting down a bit if you want to explore the areas near the vinewood sign). I was going between a 4k 16:9 27'' and a 1080p 21:9 and picked the ultrawide. I'm happy.

My friends pc he just built wont boot.
ImBleu replied to cluterfoot5's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
the yahoo answers posts says no beep code. OP, I'd recommend as others have suggested, put just a single stick of ram, the cpu and cpu heatsink on and test through the iGPU display, if that works then slowly add parts until it doesnt work. Nothing wrong with 550w PSU for that sort of system. -
Its hard to go wrong with phones nowadays as the flagships are all identical in terms of specs, it's only aesthetics, screens & cameras which are different now and the Z has what you'd expect I guess.

What is the general consensus on the Moto Z phone? I'm getting a sweet deal from my provider and may make the jump from my Oneplus One. I know there is no headphone jack but that doesn't overly bother me. Opinions?

Lack of replies to my support tickets, weeks between replies, failing to communicate when sending courriers to collect my phone. Just general OnePlus support imho.
-
It's a good phone but as much as I love it there is something I don't like about it but I can't tell what it is. Maybe I'm just petty about the buttons sticking out a lot more than I'm used to

I've had apauling customer service from OnePlus and the Pixel XL is kinda ugly imho.

So I broke my Oneplus 3 a month ago by sailing with it and it got wet so currently using my old OnePlus One. I'm trying to pick a new phone and would like the following: 1. Waterproof or resistance is a plus 2. Dual SIM preferred (I get better calls on one provider and data on another) 3. USB Type C preferred but happy with microUSB 4. Good camera needed 5. Approximately 5.5 to 6inch display 6. Good screen (some variety of oled if possible) 7. Headphone jack optional but is a plus. 8. Decent storage space Here is my current list in order from cheapest to most expensive, happy to expand on this list if a good recommendation comes along. 1. LG G5 2. OnePlus 3T 3. Moto Z 4. Moto X Play 5. Sony Xperia XZ 6. LG v20 7. Samsung Galaxy S7 8. iPhone 7plus Please help me as I'm stuck between choices. Thanks!

Wow Cap you've been here since I can remember and we've had many long conversations from anything storage related to even topics outside of simply Western Digital and you still kept a friendly attitude. I understand you'll be leaving your post at WD but hope you consider staying on at the LTT forums casually giving your amazing advice as a user like the rest of us. You're a really cool guy and best of luck to @Boogieman_WD. You have some enormous shoes to fill.

Sounds like a very american problem. -
So I was cleaning up my computer case and pulled out a few hard drives to remove dust between them. When putting my computer back together I noticed a few hours in that my main steam games drive, drive E, had not been properly plugged back in and upon further diagnosis i realized I had not put the SATA cable back in properly. I reconnected the sata cable and powered on the computer. Now, steam has forgotten the file path to my steamapps folder on that drive, so all my games on a 3TB WD drive are now occuping space and physically there, but steam cant find them. I went through steam and set the data location to the correct path but it can't find my older games. Will I need to redownload 300 steam games and apps or is there a workaround for this before I get pissed off and throw away all my hard drives in favour of a single 6TB.

Good case with tempered glass + true white ?
ImBleu replied to AngryFishLady's topic in Power Supplies
The white version of my case, the LianLi PC-O7SW is a pretty beautiful case. Also consider the PC-O8, O9 and O10 which may also have white options. -

Yea my friend lost his at KGV (Ho Man Tin, Kowloon) so you can be sure that ended up in one of the street markets in the area. Which area did yours happen in as you eliminated everywhere except Lantau. -
