    You should've done an upgrade to 10, then a clean install. The upgrade registers your HWID with Microsoft so you can activate with a generic key.

      to download the windows 10 installer takes about 2.5-3 hours, and i'm on my 4th time trying to do it to install win10 :/

    Windows Vista and 7 ones did, PCs with 8 and 8.1 preinstalled have a unique key stored in the BIOS instead. That key can be retrieved though.

    That is not true. While indeed for XP you did need an OEM version of the CD (there are generic MS ones with no bloat) to install with an OEM key, it is no longer true for Vista and up. Any DVD, as long as it's the same edition will work.

Reinstalling Windows with a legitimate DVD and activating with a genuine key is not considered bootleg.

      Nope, but unfotunately some custom maps aren't working in TF2, namely koth_suijin and pl_abandoned_upward_final, no matter what I do (tried reinstalls among other stuff)
