  1. Pricing would be the deciding factor. I don't know how AX routers are priced, but if it's 40-50% more than AC variants I would stick with AC.
  2. Depends on your internet speed, the number of devices you use and what you use them for. Higher frequency Wi-Fi (including 5 and 6) can deliver more bandwidth at a lower latency, but it has a shorter range. If you have a bigger house, most devices would end up on the old 2.4 GHz band anyway. Not to mention I've pushed 100 mb/s and higher on Wi-Fi 5 with a quality network card.
  3. Your hard drive is fine, don't worry about people concern trolling. Portable HDDs have existed for years.
  4. Network adapter properties reports it as running at 1 gigabit. I have one cable running from the computer to the port on the wall. I should also note that this is in a university dorm room, so I can't run advanced network diagnosis. Really just trying to see if others have had problems with these NICs.
  5. Is the tab in the cable still there? Those can snap off quite easily. Try wiggling it around in the port a bit.

Hello, Recently I upgraded my PC to a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 motherboard, which has an onboard Realtek 2.5 Gigabit NIC, which seems to be quite problematic under high load. My old Asus Q87M-E board with an Intel I217-LM was able to sustain close to gigabit on Speedtest, and download speeds on Steam and Chrome were close too. However, with the new motherboard, any large load seems to completely overload the NIC. I can be in a Discord call without a problem, but as soon as I start a large download in the background, audio keeps cutting out. Not to mention I can never go over 100 megabits on any download or upload, and even these often result in the connection dropping. Even Speedtest doesn't run as it should, the UI freezes as it tests. I'm running Windows 10 20H2 with the latest driver from Gigabyte, power saving is disabled. I've thought about getting a PCIe NIC with an Intel 82574L chipset instead, or just replacing the board altogether with an Asus B550-F for example, as that has Intel NIC. Does anyone have other suggestions, or could my board be defective?
  8. Not going to happen unfortunately. So many people just have a philosophy of "bigger number better" when buying a computer.
  9. T-class CPUs are still desktop CPUs that use the same socket. They only differ from non-T parts in TDP (35W) and a lower clockspeed. This is nothing like the H vs U CPUs on mobile, which can have very different core counts.
  10. Here are a few things I would check: Is the RAM fully seated? Push down with your thumbs to make sure. Is the graphics card fully inserted? Again, give it a push to make sure Check all power connectors, especially the CPU 8-pin and any connectors on your graphics card Try using only one stick of RAM.
  11. Looks like your motherboard isn't POST-ing. Is this a newly built system?
  12. They'll work fine. An antenna in its essence is just a long wire meant to pick up signal. However your signal might not be as good.
  13. 9600K won't work in a Z170 motherboard. I think the best route to to would be to overclock that 6600K, and get a GPU once they become more available.
  14. What is your internet connection speed at the moment, as advertised by your ISP? Using gigabit hardware will have no effect if the uplink to the internet is slow.
  15. You can always turn it back on if it doesn't work. The 980 should UEFI boot just fine, my 970 does.
  16. If you're going for a system reinstall, then a system image won't fix the issue. However, you can check if you need to reinstall. Do you see the logo of the motherboard manufacturer only when you start up, or do you also see the Windows logo?
  17. Does the power supply have a PCI Express 8-pin power connector to power the graphics card? How large the PCI express slot covers on the back of the computer?
  18. Not worth the upgrade. You won't notice a difference in everyday system performance at all.
  19. And you can also OC the E8500. And this assumes that the motherboard even supports overclocking, and can deliver enough power. Remember the Q8300 is 95W.
  20. If you can wait, wait. 5600X would be a great fit here, but not at current pricing.
  21. Put your ear next to it and listen. It should be a quiet whirring noise.
