  1. Hi! I've been rocking an Ivy Bridge 3770k since 2012. I was able to get an order in for an AMD 5800x and, although it won't be here till late January, I'm excited to for the upgrade! I'm sticking with the mATX form factor and am largely going to keep my build the same style but would love some feedback, I attached a couple photos. Since I'm sticking with mATX again that really limits me to B550 as there's not many choices for x570 mATX . So I think I've decided to go with Gigabyte's B550M Aorus Pro-P. What I'm debating on is sticking with soft tubing. I've got enough of this red tubing left for another build so I could make things look largely the same. However, I also have hard tubing sitting in a closet. Do think it would be an improvement to aesthetics to switch to hardline clear tubing? The downsides would the costs for new fittings and the loss of color on the tubing. Last time around I went with distilled water rather then colored coolant because of possible waterblock staining issues. Unless newer coolant has addressed this I wouldn't use colored coolant this go around either. The benefit is I wouldn't have to worry about eventually replacing hard tubing like you have to consider with soft tubing. It could also arguably look better and building it would be fun . So what do you all think?
  2. A long while ago I got a Intel Pentium G3258 and it's been collecting dust since I moved off of FreeNAS and onto Rockstor. I'm wanting to move back to FreeNAS but want to get a motherboard that supports ECC RAM before doing so. The G3258 supports ECC RAM and I found this very interesting Supermicro board on Ebay, X10SLH-LN6TF. From the digging I was able to do it seems to be compatible with 4th generation Haswell processors but I wanted to get some more thoughts before pulling the trigger. With the links I dropped would it stand to reason that this setup will work? What's the chance that it will "work" but I'll need to do a BIOS update in order to get it to work? This motherboard would be pretty neat given the 10gb NIC's. The G3258 may not be able to take full advantage of the speed difference but neither would my SATA HDD's anyways so if down the road I throw some SSD's in the FreeNAS box I'll likely look for an upgrade to the CPU too. Thanks for any thoughts :)
  3. Hi, I'm still rocking a 3770k OC'd to 4.4Ghz with 32gb of RAM on an Asrock z77. My graphics card is a 1080ti. I'm really thinking about the new ryzen 3rd gen but may just get a bigger SSD and re-image my machine. Do you guys think the 3770k is a bottleneck to the 1080ti at more then just a few FPS loss? Thanks! :)
  4. I'm primarily a PC gamer. There is currently a really good deal going on for the Sennheiser HD 700's on Massdrop for $400 (Link to deal). If I'm gonna drop this kind of money on a headset I'd like to be able to use them on both my PC and Xbox One. The only Amp's I could find that are compatible on both were Astro's Mixamp and the Turtle Beach ELITE PRO TAC. These may be perfectly fine Amp's for gaming on both PC and Xbox One but wanted to others opinion before dropping this kind of money. I'm not worried about a mic as I can just use my Blue Yeti on both systems. Please don't shun me too bad for being an occasional console gamer
  5. I have been patiently waiting for a 1080 Ti to power my 3440x1440 monitor for awhile and painfully using, or trying to use, my 7970 for awhile now. Even though I haven't seen any official word anywhere does anyone remember from past releases when we can expect the aftermarket vendor designs start to come out? Also I don't even see the 1080 Ti up for sale anywhere yet and I thought they were supposed to be available on the 10th although I could be wrong. Thanks for any insight!
  6. Right now I'm deciding between the Noctua NH-L9i and the SilverStone AR06. If somebody has another idea for a 2u CPU cooler I'm open to suggestions though! Thanks for any feedback Noctua NH-L9i: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAADY4B02495 SilverStone: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220069&ignorebbr=1
  7. I've seen mixed reviews of many different headsets online as far as which is the best. Price tag is not a big deal but I would like to keep it around or under $300. Mic is also necessary. The 3 that I am looking at is the Astro a50's, Steel Series Siberia 840's and the Razer Man O' War's. One other thing that would be nice is an additional 3.5mm jack so I can have some music playing in the background while gaming or if this is possible to do via Bluetooth or something of that nature that works too! Finally they do need to be compatible on PC and Xbox One. I've added a poll with the 3 noted headsets I noted before but if anyone has any other suggestions feel free to let me know and i'll add it to the poll! Thank you all
  8. Truthfully the only thing that I need full height PCI slots for is for a 4 port NIC and the height of the cards themselves are not taller than the PCI bracket itself.
  9. That's not bad but I was hoping for 3u or smaller if that's possible
  10. I'm having a hard time finding some decent rack mountable server cases that can fit a full size ATX board and full height PCI-e cards. If the PCI-e cards have to be mounted horizontally instead of vertically that is perfectly fine. Any help is appreciated!
  11. I am looking for a dual gigabit nic that will fit in a PCI-E x2 slot as cheap as possible that will work with PF Sense. It does not matter if it used or what have you as long as it works with PF Sense so Intel is preferred. I was able to find a quad gigabit pretty easily but am struggling to find a dual that fits it a x2 slot. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advanced
  12. Just wanted to update for anyone who has the same issue and happens to come to this from a google search. The issue with file explorer crashing was due to AutoCAD 2014 that I had on my computer. There are reports of 2013 not playing nice with the registry either. I do not know of any other version having this issue and as of right now the only way to fix it (as far as I know) is to uninstall the program. I am still having an issue with chrome though even after using revo uninstaller and taking care of any file left behind by the chrome uninstaller. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
  13. I've looked on forums online to see if I can find any fixes for the following issues I have had with windows 10 but I have had no luck as of yet. In Chrome anytime I type in the URL it often does not display most of the text I am typing. But this only occurs in the Chrome URL no where else. Thinks I have done to try to resolve the issue: Disabled all extensions Reset browser settings Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome (but did not delete all data when I did this, may try that next) Links on the windows Tool Bar to file browser do not work. If you click them it does nothing for ~15 seconds the screen will go black and then it will just go back to the desktop and has to kind of rebuild the icons. It does the same under the start menu as it does on the toolbar Thinks I have done to try to resolve the issue: Replaced icon with link to "Computer" instead of the filer explorer Windows updates
  14. I have a home media server running FreeNAS that is pretty much just being used for Plex and Syncthing. Is there any way that I can easily allow others to use some of my free storage? I could possible do things like host websites for people but I would have to market that. Is there anything that I could easily start doing? Also sorry if this is in the wrong forum section. I didn't know where else it would fit.
  15. How well could I run my 3440x1440 monitor with a single 980 Ti. It will obviously be somewhere in between 4k and standard 1440p but on a-lot of the benchmarks there is a huge difference between the two. Does anyone know where I can see benchmarks on this? I have a feeling I will need 2 but id like to save money if I can and if one can last me long enough till Nvidia pascal and gen 2 HBM id like to only one. I only have a single 7970 at the moment so I desperately need an upgrade
