If you are searching for a fix to run C&C generals and can't find one, ask me here and I'll respond within a few days or so. My aim with this thread is to help as many as possible and try to collect the various fixes for playing this game scattered around the web in one place.
    Installer errors

"Unable to launch ... datagen.exe" error:

"1. Start the installation and wait for the error, abort installation
    2. Restart Installation and wait until the installation process requests CD2 (the datagen.exe should be there at this moment)
    3. IMPORTANT: Make the datagen.exe write protected (right click the file -> properties)
    4. proceed Installation"
(corrected spelling and such in quote)

Do the ""Unable to launch ... datagen.exe" error:" fix untill step 3

    2.
Copy everything in the folder where datagen.exe is located

    3.
    Finish install

    4.
Do the ""Unable to launch ... datagen.exe" error:" fix untill step 3 again

    5.
Overwrite the files inside the folder where the new datagen.exe is located with the files you copied in step 2

    6.
Finish install, it should work now

The game doesn't launch after successful install:
It's probably a problem with SafeDisc, you have two choices:
    1. Edit your registry (hard way) (doesn't work anymore according to some users)
    2. Download a no-cd patch (easier way)

    In-game errors:

Technical difficulties error or DirectX error:

    1.
    go to

Don't worry, you will be able to change those settings later but once you have done this, boot the game and it should work
Patch your game to 1.04 if you want (might also fix other errors?)

I would rather experience some PITA and stick to the vim fully
Anyways, I see that my current combo of atom + vim is fine. I could have gone with separate editors for each OS, but it's just stupid.

Get vim, the lifetime text editor. I've pretty recently (a few months ago) made the switch, and it's easily worth it. It's 100% free, really customizable, has support for pretty much every single programming language and human language and runs on everything (even android). Here is the document minimap you needed https://github.com/severin-lemaignan/vim-minimap . I know it might seem really hard to get into (which it could be), but when you do, it's really worth it. Also, just a tip, I would start with using neovim instead of standard vim, as it supports 99% of all normal vim plugins, but also has a few exclusive plugins and runs a lot better.

Those are perfectly good values. As low as standard DDR3 VCCIO/VCCSA (which is normally around 0.950). You are good to go.

It wasn't misinformation, it was a gross over-simplification of the process. It's far easier for them to say "don't use high vDIMM kits" because typically, high vDIMM kits run at higher speeds, and require more VCCIO/VCCSA to stabilize when using auto settings. It was the news outlets fault for not doing their own homework, and regurgitating things they do not understand. It boggles the mind to see how many of these news outlets refer to them as tech outlets or hardware outlets, but know very little of how things work.

Intel's original statement was "high voltage kits can kill Skylake's IMC". This statement is still true, but not with vDIMM. It should only apply to VCCIO/VCCSA. Different motherboards will set a different auto-value for these two voltages, which is why Intel was worried. As long as you are under 1.25v each (personally I avoid going above 1.15v each, but to each their own) you should be perfectly fine for the long term. As for the vDIMM required to kill the IC's on your ram, it varies from IC to IC. Micron might tolerate higher heat than Samsung, but Samsung IC's might handle higher voltages/current than Micron when kept cooler.

If it's a nice retailer, you can ask them to flash the mobo before sending it. It worked for one of my friends.

This is exactly correct. To add to this, G Skill and Corsair are both launching DDR4 4600mhz kits that have 1.5v VDIMM as their XMP voltages. Their engineers test these kits for months on end, non-stop under constant stress. If VDIMM was harmful to the IMC, they would not be launching those products. I've personally been running 1.45v 24/7 for the past 3 months now, and I have a rig behind me running 1.65v DDR3 on a cheapo ASUS Z170 board since February. It's still alive and kicking.

If you have time to read one of my famous rants, I go into greater detail about this situation:
Also, in that kitguru source of yours, it appears someone in the comment section agrees with my statements:

noisebomb44 reacted to DocSwag in What voltage is my RAM running at?
Intel is wrong about that, the 1.5v is supplied by the memory VRM on the motherboard and doesn't have anything to do with the CPU. VCCSA and VCCIO are what really go through the IMC. Probably just there as a sort of thing to protect themselves.

Worse case scenario is you kill your mobo, but I doubt that will happen since the mobo is a ddr3 board.

EDIT: Perhaps @MageTank could add something on, as I believe they are more familiar with this.

Every monitor is 1080p, 144 Hz, and has good reviews. AMD FreeSync is useless in your case. I would go for the Acer GN246HL 3D monitor, it might be fun to play around with 3D, and it's cheapest because of some reason

    EDIT:
Although it doesn't have shitty monitor speakers, if you are into that kind of thing

Try using the same mouse on another computer, if the problem persists on that PC it's either your mouse drivers or the mouse itself that's causing the problem, otherwise, a reinstall would probably fix it if you can't find an easier fix and if reinstalling the mouse drivers doesn't fix it
