I find this untracable argument to be a bit sus, as the kids these days say it.

We have been seeing case after case after case of people getting criminally caught despite trying to do things in the world of crypto. Crypto alone is not nearly enough to properly cover your tracks, not even close. That argument is often used as a method to dupe idiots into thinking that all they have to do to "completely evade legal systems forever with zero ability of them to trace anything to you" is to do crypto transactions.

Is this a low blow? Perhaps it is, but as been explained here, it is very much a real world test of how scams in the wild are run.

IMO it makes little sense to complain about a company baiting you when the example it was trying to simulate, actual scammers, hold absolutely no punches in trying to trick people to doing their bidding.

The main issue with this so-called "information" that you have presented is that you have presented them in a way that is intentionally and maliciously dismissive of the context and relation to the actual subject matter

Uh-huh... what a nice way to twist someone's else words into something they aren't. Not only is this accusation insanely petty and completely unwarranted, but is also factually inaccurate and once again shows everyone your complete disregard and dis-concern for anything that may be outside your bubble of confirmation biases.

It doesn't... not in my experience, anyway.

I'll be blunt: Grabhanem strikes me as one of those Anything But Apple types who bases a lot of their views on half-understood articles and stereotypes. Like those people who are surprised Macs can run Steam. They certainly don't rely on first-hand experience, because that would involve the cardinal 'sin' of using an Apple product.

I'm increasingly convinced Apple could cure all cancer and people would still find a way to call it evil incarnate.

Not that Apple doesn't do lousy things, but it's pretty clear some folks will do anything to lash into the company and feel good about their Android/Windows fandom... even if it means attacking explicitly good things.

I don't even know what "side" to take, as there is an unbelievable amount of nuance to the story, and I have seen a lot of very weak and fallacious arguments made in this very thread.

IDK, my experience with Adobe products tells me that it is very poorly optimized for... anything, basically.

Hell, the reason why 10-bit is even such a big deal in Nvidia-land is the fact that Adobe refuses to upgrade their APIs from OpenGL, where 10bit is locked to Quadros, to DirectX and Vulkan, where 10bit is supported on GeForce line

I do not like this line of thinking at all.

There are no "opinions" about this, so get off your god damn high horse and look at the actual matters for just a minute.

This idea of mining for the profits falls into the exact same line of thinking that many scalpers have. "hey we bought it, so it is fair. Nobody has a right to complain about how much we choose to sell the cards for hurr durr capitalism". This I will absolutely not ever entertain, and this kind of ultra-linear thinking is what got us into so many nightmares in the tech world alone.

Doing it for the science? Redundant as it is the world's least efficient way to learn about discreet mathematics.
Doing it to "kill fiat"? Lmao, good luck with that. That is the same nonsense preached by the miners back in 2013, and looking at the real world, zero progress has been made.
Doing it for fun? both of the previous objections stand here.

But that is the thing about investments; long term costs need to also be taken into account. 6-8 figure digits is nothing in comparison to the costs and downtime risks of maintaining some relics for an extended period of time. That is the point: they SAVE money by updating their systems in quick successions, they just don't do it because they are so afraid of spending a few thousand more as an installation cost. To add, it needs new recruits which means constantly training people to use the ancient languages, which... well, to quote Prince EA: Are you preparing them for the future, or the past?

Let me give you an analogy: does it really makes sense to give an intense carpentering and civil engineering job to an elderly man who is forced to use a walker 24/7?

Hell, it has become a very popular gag within the industry to mock bass players, despite the importance of a bass guitar in any music track.

Why? Because the producers and engineers had very thin skins during the proliferation of mainstream hits in the late 2000's. They felt that bass players there were a waste of everyones time, as a number of them "failed to demonstrate meaningful talent in the guitar, and were generally anti-social".

Colonel_Gerdauf reacted to Commodus in Canadian Government threatens the "Big 3" cellular provider to cut their prices by 25% ... Or else!
Mobile data is quickly becoming a necessity, especially for those people that can't justify both a phone and a PC.

And importantly, the whole point of competition regulation is to spot and address abuse, especially when it's in a market with very few companies.  If all three major carriers in Canada are price gouging, often in direct response to (if not collusion with) each other, where do you go?  Alternatives like Freedom Mobile and Videotron only cover small patches of the country, and starting a competitive network is virtually impossible when all the good wireless spectrum has been snapped up.  If the government doesn't step in, it's highly unlikely that prices will ever get better.

While there is such a thing as striking a balance in regulation, I never quite get the people who balk at regulation when it's clearly needed... these companies are not your friends, and they will happily screw you over knowing that you're a captive audience.

Colonel_Gerdauf got a reaction from dalekphalm in Switzerland halts rollout of 5G over health concerns - Update: Swiss gov't denies the report
As it stands now, it IS largely fearmongering promoted by the tech illiterate.

To address this very quickly, many of those substances were shrouded in mystery thanks to the very strong promotional advertising of such products. When people found that Asbestos was carcinogenic, there was very strong resistance and even complete denial to the facts at hand from manufacturing sources (including cities in Quebec, Canada, and Russia). The story about tobacco, nicotine and tar is a clusterfuck along the same lines. How would any of that relate to 5G, exactly? There is very little mystery about wireless transmission; they transmit non-ionizing radiation, which has zero harm to a biological body. Also, in order for them to "affect" us, you need to amplify the signal amplitudes beyond what would be usable for wireless/cell AND build a containment unit that reflects the signals within itself. That is effectively a microwave oven, and what would happen in that case? generation of heat from the moisture, and not much else.

There MAY be concerns about 5G that will be discovered later down the line, but its relation to current fears is incredibly doubtful, as again, those are manufactured by the tech-illiterate charlatans who simply get into a fit over anything new in technology. Hell, there are enough of those charlatans in computer security (security via "common sense" and nothing else) and application development (FOSS or get lost).

Colonel_Gerdauf reacted to dalekphalm in Switzerland halts rollout of 5G over health concerns - Update: Swiss gov't denies the report
There's no scientific basis for how 5G towers can be dangerous to humans*.

*: There is the risk of microwave radiation heating body tissue to the point of danger and/or death - as is the risk with literally every kind of radio transmitter ever invented, including AM/FM/2G/3G/4G/WIFI, etc. The main concern is that if you stand right beside a commercial transmitter (Eg: the thing on top of the cell tower), the power involved could harm or kill you. That hasn't changed with 5G.

But it's not cancer that'll kill you - since non-ionizing radiation doesn't cause cancer. What kills you is that by standing beside a commercial radio transmitter, you're literally inside a Microwave oven.

But, since there are already safety procedures in place for that kind of thing (and have been for decades), no one is standing beside these things.

So yeah - mmWave 5G might be new (with the higher frequencies), but even in that case, there's no scientific basis for how mmWave might be more dangerous to us than current frequencies (which is to say, not dangerous at all for the end user).
