Should I drive to Lake Tahoe in June (30 hours 1-way, 2067 miles) or should I fly?

only states I haven’t driven through along the way is Arizona and Nevada. Never actually been to the desert here in the states.

Would be in the Touareg of course.

Maybe I'll be up there in June, who knows 😛

It's not as long a drive for me as it is for you. 😉

Why every now and then this thing decides to give me 40 mpg instead of 30-32 like usual? Pic taken 15 miles into my commute home.

Second time this has happened. First time was like a week after I got it.

I'm like not doing anything differently to get significantly more. I mean that's at least a 20℅ difference from normal,  its not small

Sometimes I get significantly higher MPG depending on how many hills there are in the area. Maybe it could be that?

I am learning to drive in the UK where most people use manual cars. However, automatic-only licences are becoming more common because more and more people are just using automatic cars, like the States where I believe automatic is really popular.

My driving instructor even said there is no point going for manual these days and I should just go for automatic.

I am doing manual lessons because my new job soon will require driving around 10 hours or so per week and might be driving different cars.

Still, is my instructor right and is there really any point in doing manual lessons these days?

I learned how to drive stick when I was 15 and got my license. I didn't take lessons though, my dad taught me how to drive.

I wouldn't say that there's no point, but for most people an automatic is fine. I feel that you learn how cars work and operate better if you know how to drive a manual, and I find that there is less distracted driving when you need both hands to drive.

That being said, driving a manual is a PITA in heavy traffic, and if I had a long commute I wouldn't drive stick.

I learned how to drive stick in San Francisco, which is definitely one of the more unforgiving places to learn how to drive stick, but I find it pretty useful nonetheless. Engine breaking down long hills is really convenient, and the added protection of not having to worry about your car getting stolen is really nice.

I thought the cas looked familiar, and then I realized its Obioban! I've been following you for years on M3Post, nice work! Glad to see you still own the cars and they're in great shape.

exactly! If the parts wouldn't be so dang expensive I'd maybe be OK with it. But geez. At least they sorted most of that out with the third gen, I think 2013 onwards they sorted pretty much all issues and those are the ones to have. It just wasn't as nice of a car though. And in the US you couldn't get a rear locking diff anymore.

But I still love the giant fuel tank, the crapload of room in the back, comfortable ride, and how well it's built... it's just a solid car. I also averaged ~25mpg in the thing, better than advertised, although I have a mainly highway commute. (any city driving I did it seemed to get like ~18 and it was very hard to get any more than that really). And the interiors, although they aren't the nicest interiors, they hold up super well judging by the ones i've seen with over 200k miles.

They just do everything you could ever need a daily driven car to do from a utilitarian standpoint. and I think they were underrated. Also no one knows it exists and everyone thinks it's a Tiguan.

Yeah, my dad had one (on a lease), and the thing would've been super expensive to own if not on a lease.

You might also be able to spot my current car in the garage 😛

I have a 64 Gig iPhone XR and still have over 40 Gigs free. 128 Gigs would just be insane to me.

What are you doing that you need so much storage on a phone?

I'm still on a 64GB phone that's 4 or 5 years old and I barley use half of it.

I have about 12,000 photos (~ 40GB) Some FLAC albums (~50GB), saved iMessages (~10GB) Apps (~20GB). I also want to shoot 4K ProRes, which uses an insane amount of storage.

You prob right it’s been on a downhill all my life pretty much

good news btw looks like the storm keeps shifting East so won’t affect me too badly. New Orleans is gonna get the worst of it looks like

Y'all better hope that they reinforced the Lake Pontchartrain Dams properly... don't want a repeat of that.

    is it the Volkswagen? Lol

Trust me, I've had people tell me that my state deserves to be sunk into the Pacific. You just get used to it after a while. 😂

I drove to Baton Rouge yesterday. Can confirm people are driving like maniacs (Moreso than usual) on I-10

traffic moving the whole time but every now and then some dude just changes lanes two inches in front of you

why are people so aggressive? I’m just trying to have a chill Saturday lol

School's back in session, which means that kids now have extracurricular stuff (soccer, baseball, etc.) on the weekends, and you have stressed out parents driving on the freeways.

It's only 4 years away and considering A LOT of people use the same computer for 10 years + I don't doubt it will be a windows xp and current windows 7 situation but worse since now there isn't a forced upgrade like with windows 10 just deciding yeah this pc gets 10 now.

Actually many people are using XP machines who are not hobbyists.

A lot of airport terminals still use XP machines for boarding pass printing, check-ins etc.

It's actually a huge problem, because of the issue of security updates, etc.
