DarkRift5 reacted to Apollo Refugio in What do you think of the GT 1030?
it will run, but for $80ish dollars, just get a 1050 or an rx 560 or somewhat that.

a 1030 is decent but i would get a better value for you.

DarkRift5 got a reaction from ferdzxc in how bad is a razer product?
They're generally fine (just overpriced), but the quality can be a bit hit or miss as of late. I had to return a set of Razer headphones twice due to a design flaw last year. I'm not a huge fan of their new keyboard switches but that's down to personal preference more than anything.
The software can be a pain sometimes as well but I've never had any serious issues with it, nothing a restart couldn't fix anyways.

All of these electronics renting companies charge heinous amounts overall- I know one place that rented out PS4s but over 2 years it would have been like $600 which is twice what they normally cost.
It's your money and I'm not going to pretend to know your finances better than you do, but I would recommend saving a little each month and then buying it outright in a while.

EDIT: But yes, they seem reputable. Definitely a bad deal though.

This is important. I recently installed a new card myself (Nvidia to Nvidia) and since I thought the drivers were the same I didn't uninstall them- boy was I wrong. That was a pain in the butt to fix. I had crashing as well as downright weird resolution issues.
    It is fixable, though.

It appears that the major stuttering is fixed. I only have microstutters now that for some reason go away when I use an Xbox controller... Mouselook issue maybe?

It's 90% of the time better overall to just buy a more powerful card and sell the old one than it is to deal with SLI or CF. There have been a few edge cases (on the Nvidia side for example at the launch of the 900 series a lot of people bought 2x 970s instead of a 980 and for $100 more got better performance), but even so CF and SLI definitely have their issues.
And I forgot about the RX 480! Seems like a great card for the price.
Also, I agree about upgrading the tier of a power supply. 650w max, look at the EVGA Supernova series or as someone mentioned Corsair RM series. Make sure it's modular unit, you'll thank me later when it comes time to do cable management- there's a lot of wires in a computer, so don't add any unnecessary stuff.

The high-end i5 is overkill for the GTX 750, but if you plan on upgrading to a 1060 or something down the line then that build looks great!

A 650W power supply will be more than enough for a 1060 (or even a 1070 or 1080). An RX 480 will run on the same supply as well- but I'm not sure about crossfire (but again, CF/SLI shouldn't be your goal/first option unless you absolutely need more power than a single card can provide).

    DarkRift5 got a reaction from Technous285 in V-Sync Vs. G-sync/freesync
Normal V-sync simply stops the GPU from rendering more than the screen's refresh rate. G-sync and freesync change the monitor's refresh rate to that of what's being sent to it, so it should theoretically never skip or lose a frame (stutter) due to a refresh rate/monitor issue. It also eliminates all tearing, just like V-sync, without the input lag you sometimes get with certain V-sync solutions.
G-sync/freesync monitors are more expensive for a few reasons-
    1. Changing the refresh rate of a monitor is hard. It needs a special chip to do so, and this chip as far as I know can only be gotten from Nvidia or AMD- it's an opportunity for them to make money so G-sync modules especially are kind of more expensive than they need to be, although that seems like it's changing a little bit.
    2. G-sync displays nearly always have high refresh rates (my G-sync display has 100Hz), which also adds to the cost
    3. Finally, the monitor manufacturer knows that the average Joe Schmoe off the street just looking for a decent monitor isn't going to go for an expensive piece of tech with fancy refresh rate tech inside of said monitor- it's going to be the PC hardware enthusiasts or serious gamers that go for these machines, so they're usually very very nice to begin with.

This is true too. I'm not a programmer by any means, but I know enough about the profession that a lot of people start out with IT positions or (especially if you're in the US with its enormous defense industry) cybersecurity/defense/software development.

You can even get them in high school (I got one last summer at USNA with only minimal application stuff needed).

DarkRift5 got a reaction from TravisTea in 4790k Vs 5820k
At micro center, 5820ks are usually around the same price as 4790ks so price isn't an issue as long as you can afford the extra for X99 and DDR4.
I had to pick between the 2 and while the 4790k has a better per-core performance out of the box so it's better for gaming, a slightly overclocked 5820k will do wonders in any game, even tackling ARMA at pretty high settings. Set the 5820k to 4GHz and you're golden, basically. Any decent CPU cooler will handle it fine.
