  1. You're not going to find a 3440x1440 under like $600 unless you get one of those super cheap Korean ones off Ebay. What do you use now? 2560x1080 is certainly lower than 3440x1440, but you may not notice the difference if you are used to lower resolution displays. Also, do you play games? 3440x1440 is pretty damn hard to drive sometimes, even my 1080 can't always max it out.
  2. That's quite a gap in power there... I'd look into used hardware or wait for 1070s or 1060s to come back in stock.
  3. I noticed last night that my screen started flickering intermittently. It seems to be a GPU-related issue since my Oculus also started flickering. I tried booting in safe mode and rolled back the drivers (on 378.92 now; 382.33 was the one causing problems) and that seems to fix it until I run the Oculus software- there was a new update recently, could that be what's causing the flickering? It doesn't make sense to me how a problem with the Rift could make the monitor flicker. I'm using a GTX 1080 over DisplayPort to an Acer X34.
  4. XPS 15 mentioned above is a good idea. If you need a little more power (1060), look at a 14 inch Razer Blade. It's a little more money but you can find discounts fairly often (or just say you're a student on the MS Store).
  5. They're generally fine (just overpriced), but the quality can be a bit hit or miss as of late. I had to return a set of Razer headphones twice due to a design flaw last year. I'm not a huge fan of their new keyboard switches but that's down to personal preference more than anything. The software can be a pain sometimes as well but I've never had any serious issues with it, nothing a restart couldn't fix anyways.
  6. All of these electronics renting companies charge heinous amounts overall- I know one place that rented out PS4s but over 2 years it would have been like $600 which is twice what they normally cost. It's your money and I'm not going to pretend to know your finances better than you do, but I would recommend saving a little each month and then buying it outright in a while. EDIT: But yes, they seem reputable. Definitely a bad deal though.
  7. GTX1070 or above for 3440x1440. My 1080 still requires me to turn down a couple settings to get above 60 fps at all times. If you're OK with medium-high settings, the 1070 will do otherwise get a 1080.
  8. What are your other components (CPU, GPU)? Your PC might get bottlenecked by those first. 4GB is a little low, I'd look into getting up to 8GB if the rest of your system is up to snuff.
  9. It doesn't need RAM but needs DDR3? DDR3 is a specific type of RAM. I'm assuming you're starting with some components already, what do you have?
  10. Thanks for your help guys. I've decided to go with Goodnotes as the app and the Adonit Pixel.
  11. Hi, Just recently picked up a 9.7 inch iPad Pro that I was planning on using for taking notes in classes. I'm looking for a stylus now and am having trouble coming up with anything that's cheaper than an Apple Pencil yet still has palm rejection and work well with OneNote. I've looked at the Adonit Pixel and Jot Dash but the Dash doesn't have palm rejection and the Pixel doesn't support OneNote for its advanced stuff (like palm rejection). I want something with a relatively fine tip as well, since this will be for note taking and not for art or things like that (trust me, I'm no artist). Wanted to make sure I've exhausted all my options before I drop ONE HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS on a stylus. Thanks!
  12. Double check that the power connectors are all the way in to the GPU and aren't broken in any way. Sounds to me like the graphics card gets a heavy load and then gets screwed up. Could be a power issue.
  13. If you're dead set on a Mac, I believe there's an MBP refresh coming soon. Otherwise, take a look at the Razer Blade stealth. I have the big brother and I know someone who has the Stealth and they are beautifully built computers. I believe they start around $1k for the Stealth. If you're in the United States (don't know about other countries), the Microsoft Store has a 10% discount on just about everything for students and an excellent computer care program comparable to Apple Care so if it craps out on you, it's possible just to swap it out. I think it even covers accidental damage with a small premium. I got my Blade 14 from them and I'm never buying a laptop anywhere else.
  14. Thought I might save you a few bucks here--- do you need 16GB of RAM? 16 is an awful lot unless you're planning on doing a lot of heavy production stuff. Just my $.02 Otherwise as long as 250GB is good for you it looks great to me.
  15. What are you studying? Does your university/college/department have a specific requirement for a computer? As for a blanket recommendation, I always think this is a pretty good option if you're on a tight budget. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-I3147-Convertible-Touch-Screen/dp/B017ATZMYM/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1471316220&sr=8-11&keywords=dell+2-in-1 Pentium might not be great but you get what you pay for...
