  2. Well this is not good news... just checked both sticks of ram in the D1 slot and no boot... then moved to the B1 slot which is not the suggested slot for one stick of ram, and a boot up... a DOA motherboard? Really gutting if that is the case for my first proper PC build. Nothing else it could be?
  3. I can go through and check that now; just to clarify regardless of the "optimal" positioning for the RAM should one stick of ram still be able to boot up in any of the slots (if it is not DOA)
  4. In that manual I am reading the same as in my physical copy which is "D1 and B1", where abouts are you reading that? I mean A1 and B1 makes a lot more sense but I am still reading D1 and B1 which is as you look from the left the third slot of the first four and the second slot of the second four
  5. Hey guys, Just finished my first PC build, super proud of it but I am having one problem! I have two sticks of 4GB G skill Rip Jaw ram installed, and I have installed it in the fashion that the motherboard manual tells me to, as pictures included show. The Bios recognises that both slots are habitated, but still only recognises the memory from one. Windows also reads a memory maximum of 4GB and yes I am on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 install. Cannot think of anything! Help appreciated *edit* The motherboard is an Asus Sabertooth X79 *edit* Things I have noticed: Although the 2nd slot is showed as habitated in the BIOS, in windows task manager only 1 of 8 slots is said to be used. Things I have done: - Checked Memory limit in msconfig
  6. They are locked up unless you jail break etc, but as far as I know that is not strictly allowed? correct me if I am wrong. I am not making excuses to hate apple. In fact, Apple are fantastic for me as a large part of my life involves composing music and for that, MAC is fantastic. I still prefer Windows. oh, and please don't go round throwing "noob" in peoples faces on a tech forum, let us at least keep this community rid of pathetic stuff like that.
  7. Thank you for the replies to this I won the auction with a price of £290, which is about £100 cheaper than it is on Amazon and £40 more than a new 770. Not a bad deal by my books and gives me money to get an extra SSD or perhaps a better processor for my build.
  8. For me it is the fact that they are so locked up, and upon breaking parts the cost to get replacements are absolutely absurd.
  9. It is looking that may well be an option if I don't win this card! Thank you.
  10. Well it is a bid buy so it is more a question of how high I am willing to go before it ends
  11. Hey guys, so I have my eyes on a one year old GIGABYTE Geforce GTX 780 which is for sale. Here is the sellers advert: "You are looking at the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 780 loaded with 3GB GDDR5 RAM, this item is just over a year old orginally purchased at the end of May 2013. Though it's just over a year old, the graphics card is in excellent condition and works perfectly! It has not been overclocked or modified in any way and I am selling this item due to a recent upgrade. I am also bundling a digital copy of Watch Dogs which can be downloaded by using the bundled coupon. The item comes with all it's original accessories, a few of which are sealed, the documentation and the original packaging. I have not registered the card with GIGABYTE so feel free to register yourself and take advantage of the warranty period." What I am wondering is whether a year old graphics card will really be any different to a new one, if what the seller says is true in the fact that it runs well. In that case also, how high should I let this bid up? I was thinking of going no higher than the price of a new 770 card, though perhaps higher will still be a "bargain"? Amazon 780 = £370/$645 Amazon 770 = £240/$407 So what do you guys think? How high would you go and have you ever purchased/had problems with a second hand GPU? Many thanks
  12. Aye don't hold me to the integrity of the post but Eteknix usually are not too bad. That being said we can definitely expect the 800 series soon I think, and it would not surprise me if they want to lower the prices as really in most scenarios that is the only thing that truly pulls people to AMD instead.
