Okay so i just want to share my opinions and advice, for first time builders the reason I want to do this is because I believe something like this would have been useful when I first started building computers. first of all if you don't need an ATX motherboard. MATX boards are really capable boards now days, and for a really nice one it is cheaper then an ATX by around 80 dollars. Second of all if you are thinking you going to do crossfire or SLI eventually once you have enough money to buy another card: Nine times out of ten you wont ever get the other card, so don't worry about getting a huge expensive case that has "Good airflow" If a cheaper MATX form factor case will do the trick. Third don't skimp on your power supply but don't go over board with it either. Your power supply has the capability to destroy all your expensive parts so make sure you get a name brand and read the reviews. If anybody has anything they would like to add to this by all means. I'm sure there is already a thread about this but this is just my opinions and ramblings.
