  1. i think you can actually run everything off of the usb drive in live desktop, just to give it a try yes
  2. the fix was probably easy but yeah, you're free to install windows again

Flight was delayed to 9am =| Hopefully no more…

Happens quite frequently with trains here in France, hopefully everything goes smoothly for you from there!

Had to RMA my GPU with 1 month of warranty left…

That's definetely the reason IMO, otherwise we would just get a basic R5 iGP or something.
  6. Is your SSD cool enough? Might be slowing down due to overheating?
  7. Which part of "everything is okay" don't you understand? It still shows as 4 cores 8 threads even on a top of the line ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard or even a Crosshair V Formula. Upgrading won't change anything. All 8 cores are detected, just Windows being dumb and telling you your CPU is 4 cores 8 threads because the way the architecture is shares resources among all cores by 4 modules of 2 cores each. I have 2 MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ motherboards aswell and same thing there. It's just the way things are.
  8. It registers as 4 cores 8 threads since Windows 7 & 8. It is perfectly normal, nothing to worry about. Unless you're getting sub-par performance then everything is fine. I'm an FX user so you can take my word for it

    Help!

    More infos before posting...
  10. I don't think you will have more issues besides a working GPU driver, but yeah, i hope you don't plan to use this long term
  11. Linus explicitly said NOT to use Vista as a daily driver OS, because it isn't supported anymore since last year and if it supports anything above Fermi cards (GTX 400 & 500 series) i'd be surprised.
  12. It's not strange to see 75% CPU usage in games, especially if you uncap the framerate, your system will try to push as much fps as it can so it will make for higher load.
  13. Agree, PCI-e 2.0 x16 is like PCI-e 3.0 x8 which doesn't limit a 1070 as far as i know.
  14. UPDATE: Besides telling me to do basic troubleshooting steps, ASUS has not done anything useful for me. Board is out of warranty, they don't do repairs, end of story for me. I might try swapping back to my Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and run the CVF with an FX-4100 to see if it's a bios compatibility problem -which seems weird since the Crosshair IV Formula seems to be able to run FX-piledriver-.
  15. I have the same wifi card sitting underneath a Radeon HD 7970 in one of my rigs, also have the same in another rig above a GTX 580 and they both operate just fine
  16. UPDATE: taking the whole rig apart and reassembly didn't fix it... i'm in contact with the ASUS support to try and know what's wrong and if there's a possible fix...
  17. To be honest increasing the fan curve would have a bigger impact on temps than a thermal pad strip..
  18. UPDATE: took the whole rig apart, i'm gonna let it sit overnight as it is, then try to plug everything back up again... BIOS revert didn't change anything...
  19. Okay so right when i said it looks to be fixed it just happened again. I'm out of ideas. I might try the bios revert to see what happens or look into buying a new BIOS chip...
  20. Update: after replacing the CMOS battery and let it sit overnight, i'm currently stressing the system to try and reproduce my issue once more and yet i have not experienced any weirdness like i was for the few past days. I'll update once more if the issue seems to be fixed.
  21. There is no fast boot as far as i know on this model, maybe the C5FZ but the C5F doesn't have fast boot/UEFI boot options into BIOS although i can boot in UEFI mode when launching an USB windows installation drive or a linux one. Weird. I swapped the CMOS battery cause i think it's dead/not working as it should. Flashed BIOS once more, we'll see, i'll report back soon
  22. I forgot to mention that i run this system at stock frequencies for the time being just to take overclocking out of the equation
  23. Yes, i tried downloading the 1703 BIOS from asus's website and flashing it just to make sure and the problem still persists. I tried unplugging my RAM and even tried with a single stick (have 4x4GB, sticks are identical G.Skill ripjaws X 1600mhz cas 9 sticks). I haven't tried getting the motherboard out and try with my FX-4100 because i know for sure my cpu works and isn't damaged since i didn't play with it too much... I think the problem comes from the motherboard because i have no issues playing and stressing with the system. It's just that one bit that really drives me nuts because this is the first time i'm facing such an issue and i can't wrap my head around why this could happen I have to manually restart it at each reboot because it's stuck if i let it do it's thing on it's own. I thought about flashing an older BIOS then flash back to the latest but i'm scared the system won't post after that or that i couldn't flash back without using another cpu (which is a pain). Do you think that could work?
