  1. Hi, is the RTX 2080 powerful enough for a 38" 3840x1600 monitor running at 75Hz. I have been looking at the reviews and they typically have benchmarks for 2560x1440 and 4k monitors. I'm not sure where my monitor would fit in. Thanks for any advice!
  2. Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to get the Vega 56. I have an EVGA 850 G3 PSU which should be enough. Thanks.
  3. I would like to take advantage of Freesync so that's why I'm looking at an AMD video card.
  4. Thanks for the reply. On Newegg there's a $80-$100 difference between the two.
  5. Hi, I recently purchased an Acer 3840x1600 monitor with a 75hz refresh rate and Freesync. I was able to overclock it to 85hz. I'm looking at the AMD Vega 56 or 64. If anyone could tell me which video card would make sense for the resolution and refresh rate I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. David
  6. Hi, I have a I7-8200X and a X299 Gigabyte Gaming 7 Pro motherboard. It has 2x 512 SM961 NVME M.2 drives running in RAID 0 and is the boot drive. About every other day my desktop will reboot overnight into the BIOS and says it cannot detect the drives. After turning my desktop off for 15 seconds the BIOS will find the drive and boot into Windows 10. I'm not sure what is causing this issue. I wanted a RAID 0 setup because I work with multiple VMs at a time and very large GIS datasets for my job. If anyone could help solve this issue I would be very grateful. Thank you. David
  7. Thanks for the reply. I'll try to set the manually.
  8. Hi, I have 4x16GB G.Skill 3200 mhz ram. I installed them in a new Gigabyte Gaming 7 X299 with a I7-7820X CPU. I enabled XMP. When I ran memtest64 3 out of 4 will produce errors around the 3rd pass. I enabled all the cores on the CPU. When I put the same RAM in an Asus z270 mother with an I7-6700K CPU with XMP, all the test all ran successfully. If someone could tell me if the issue is with the RAM or the motherboard it would be very helpful. I didn't touch any of the settings in either BIOS besides enabling XMP. The BIOS firmware on both motherboards are up to date. Thank you. David
  9. I reset the COMS in the beg ginning. I thought that rests the BIOS and removes any overclock. Thanks. David
  10. HI, I tried your suggestion but no luck. I also have another desktop that's a I7-6700K with 4x8GB 3000Mhz of G.Skill RAM. I tried to put a few in my X370 in a various configuration but without success. I put the ram I had in my Gigabyte X370 into my Asus Z170 motherboard and the motherboard and CPU started with out any issues. I also moved my GTX 1070 just in case but there's no problems with that either. I'm going to run memtest86 overnight and see if any errors comes appears. Also, I don't if this means anything but when I switch to the secondary BIOS it displays D5 which the manual says " CPU initialization error." I didn't ever flash that BIOS so I'm not sure how accurate that code could mean. If there a no memory errors at the end of test is here something else I am overlooking? Thanks again for the help and suggestions. David
  11. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try that now.
  12. Hi, I have an AMD 1800X with a Gigabyte Gaming K7 motherboard ane 2x16GB 3200Mhz of G.Skill Ram for almost six months. It is slightly overclocked to 3.8Ghz using Gigabyte's Easytune software. Today when I rebooted the BIOS did not come up. All the fans in the case and the NZXT AIO turnes on, but my monitor, keyboard, and mouse did not turn on. It had been idle for about two days and I had not been doing anything intensive except web browsing. The debug LED keeps getting stuck at code 15 on the CPU which means according to the manual "Pre-memory North Bridge Initialization started." I tried resetting the CMOS and using the secondary BIOS but no luck. If anyone could tell me the cause of this error code and if it can be fixed I would be greatly appreciative. David
  13. Hi, I have an NZXT X61 and I would like to put 2x 140x NZXT Aer RGB fans on it in the front my Corsair 460x case. The issue is the RGB lights can only be used as intakes based on the location of the lights on the fan. Is there any issue to use them as intakes on my NZXT X61 cooler and pushing the radiator heat into my case? I would have two 120mm Noctua fans on top as exhaust. I would also have another 120mm in the back. Currently, I have an AMD 1800x and a GTX 1070. Thanks. David
  14. OK great, thanks for the info! That really relieve my worries :-) David
  15. Hi, I have a Corsair 570x I would like to use ML140 PRO RGB with a NZXT X61 AIO. When I was looking up the specifications they seem not to be as powerful as the regular ML140 PRO LED fans. If the RGB versions are not powerful enough does it help if I use another set of regular fans in a push/pull setup. Thanks in advance for any help. David Below are stats: ML140 PRO RGB Speed: 400 - 1200 RPM +/- 10% Airflow: 55.4 CFM Static Pressure: 1.27 mmH20 Sound Level: 20.4 dBA ML140 PRO Speed: 400 - 2000 RPM Airflow: 20 - 97 CFM Static Pressure: 0.2 - 3.0 mmH20 Sound Level: 16 - 37 dBA
  16. Ok great. Thank you. That's a relief! David
  17. Hi, I bought a Samsung 1TB PM961 SSD on eBay. I ran CrystalDisk and it displaying it has 17444GB Reads and 8208GB Writes with it being on for 403 hours. The really high read count seems highly unusual. Is there any detail tests I can run to see if there any issues with and should I be worried about such a high reads in a such a short amount of time? Thank you. David
  18. Hi, sorry for the delay. I ended getting the Asus Zebook Deluxe 3. My work is paid for it so I really didn't have a budget. I just wanted something light as possible to just do software developing on the couch :-) Thanks for the info about the brands.
  19. Hi, I'm looking to buy an ultralightweight notebook. I've narrowed down my choices to the new HP Spectre x360 3T or the new Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe. Both have the same specs. I7-8550U, 16GB Ram, and 512GB NVMe drive, FHD screen. The HP has a 13.3 screen and the Asus has a 14 screen. The HP is 2-1 and has a touchscreen but I'm not a big fan of touchscreens. I was looking a Dell but I can't get 16GB or ram without getting a 4k glossy screen. Is one brand better than the other? Thanks. David
  20. The 850 comes in an M.2 SATA model. If you search Amazon they have a couple of them. They don't have a M.2 NVMe external case yet. David
  21. Hi, I have a Samsung 1TB 850 EVO 1TB in an ONCHOICE USB-C M.2(NGFF) Enclosure Aluminium USB 3.1 Type-C External Case M2 SSD Enclosure. I have been using for about 4 months. Two times the partition would just disappear and I either had to the put the SSD in my desktop to recover the data for just create a new partition. Could the M.2 Case be bad or is the Samsung 1TB 850 EVO SSD just not meant to be used as an external drive? I check the drive and it appears healthy. If it is the case, could any recommend a case that works? Thanks! David
  22. Hi, I have Verizon FIOS Quantum modem and it has awful weak signal strength. I tried everything to try to get a WiFi signal in the dead spot of my house. I tried ethernet over power with limited success. I decided to buy a used Netgear R6400 Router. I thought I could put on the lower level next to my TV that I can connect my TV with ethernet. The only issue is that I have to use WiFi to WiFi bridge/repeater setup. It seems to be ok but I can't use the ethernet port in Repaer mode and I would really like to setup VPN on there. I was wondering if DD-WRT can be able to do this with WiFi to WiFi setup. Thanks for any advice! David
  23. Hi, sorry for the delay. Thanks for all the advice. I'll double check the amps again. I know very little about electricity. :-)
  24. Ok, that's great to hear. Thanks for the help! David
  25. Hi, I am looking at an Intel NUC to run primary at a Plex Server. I'm looking at between the Intel NUC Kit NU7i5BNH and Intel NUC Kit NUC7i7BNH. Both have the exact same specs except the first one has a Intel Core i5-7260U and the other one has a Intel Core i7-7567U. There's a about a $100 price difference between the two. Is the I5 powerful enough to convert and a stream a 40GB+ 4k movie to 1080p TV? I can probably build my HTPC cheaper but I like the small form factor of the Intel NUC and it's somewhat portable. Thanks for any advice. Intel Core i5-7260U Passmark - 5788 Intel Core i7-7567U Passmark - 6522 Also, the I5 has a Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 and the I7 comes with a Intel HD integrated GPU. I'm not sure these are even powerful enough that Plex would even want to use. David
