  1. Hi, I'm looking getting a i9-9900k. I really like the Gigabyte Z390 Designare because of the cost and the included Thunderbolt 3 ports which I need. I rather not but an add-on card. The only concern is that it has 12+1 Phases Digital VRM while the higher-end models have 16+1 Phases Digital VRM. I'm not looking to do much overclocking but I would like the CPU at least hit the 5Ghz boost without an issue. Do you think this motherboard will be ok with the CPU? Thanks! https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813145110
  2. Hi, I have an Intel NUC and a Desktop that are both connected to my router by ethernet. I also attached a Thunderbolt 3 cable between my NUC and Desktop. Windows 10 will then discover 20 Gbps "Thunderbolt Ethernet' adapters on each device. I assigned both Thunderbolt Ethernet adapters each an IP that are in the same subnet. I then can ping each other to verify they can communicate with each other. My question is, how can I tell my NUC or desktop to send large files like Movies or copies of VMs over to each other using only the Thunderbolt adapter and not the regular ethernet adapter. If anyone can point me in the correct direction. I would be very appreciated. Thank you! David
  3. I finally figured out the issue. PCIe Slot 4 was using PCH however I also had an M.2 NVMe in a slot that uses PCH too. Once I moved the M.2 drive to a slot that only uses the CPU lanes it detected the Thunderbolt card. Thanks again for the help.
  4. Ok thanks again! Hopefully, they can tell which one is the PCH PCIe x4_2 slot.
  5. I found a website that says it's only supported in the PCH PCIe x4_2 slot. How do I figure out which one that is? Thanks again for the help.
  6. I tried updating the BIOS but no luck. I attached a screenshot of the Peripherals page if that's any help.
  7. I didn't see any option to enable TB3 anywhere so I was assuming the BIOS is not detecting it. I saw screenshots of where it should be and it's not showing on my BIOS screen. Thanks.
  8. Hi, I have an X299 Gigabyte Gaming 7 motherboard with an I7-7820K CPU. I purchased Gigabyte GC-Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card. I installed the thunderbolt cable to the motherboard port and tried multiple PCIe slots but it will not show up in the BIOS. When I switch PCIe slots the motherboard will boot a few times for a couple of seconds but finally, it goes into the BIOS. I connected all the cables to the video card too. Am I do something wrong or could the Thunderbolt PCIe card be defective? Any help will be greatly appreciated. David
  9. Hi, I have an Intel Optane 980P 480GB SSD running as a Windows 10 Pro boot drive and VM storage. I haven't noticed any speed increase when working with VMs using either VMWare Workstation or Virtual Box during boot up or working in them for software development. They seem to load and run about the speed as same as my 1TB PM961 NVMe SSD. The same can be true when loading games. I tried to install the Intel driver for it, but Windows will only allow me to use the one they created. I attached screenshots of the drive info and benchmarks. If someone could tell me if I am doing something wrong or if I shouldn't expect a significant increase in speed, I will be greatly appreciated. My computer has I7-7820X CPU and 64GB of DDR 3200Mhz RAM. Thanks. David
  10. Hi, I recently purchased a short I5 NUC 8 with one M.2 slot so I am looking to put the largest amount of SSD in it that I can afford. I recently ordered a Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 on Amazon for $260 with a promo code. The reviews are mostly positive but I'm concerned that they don't release the TBW on these drives. I'm having seconds thoughts and wondering if I should cancel the order. Has anyone used this brand before for a PCIe M.2 drive? It looks like it's major selling point is that it uses Toshiba's BiCS 3D TLC NAND flash memory. If anyone has any advice I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
  11. I have a NUC 8 with one Crucial 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz stick with a CAS Latency of 17. I would like to add another 16GB module. Newegg has a G.Skill 16GB DDR 2400Mhz stick on sale with a CAS Latency of 16. Is it ok to mix them together? Would I have to manually set the latency in the BIOS? Buying the exact same Crucial module would be an extra $20 or $30. Thanks. David
  12. Hi, I purchased a i5-8259U NUC 8 (short) and would like to use it as sever for gitlab, plex, and nextcloud. It has one M.2 slot and I'm looking at either a 2TB WDC Blue or a 2TB Intel 660P. Both are around $200. The 660P looks to be a lot faster but reviews are saying its 200 TBW is really low and runs hot. The WDC Blue has 500 TBW. If anyone would recommend one over the other for this build will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
  13. Hi, I have 3 Noctua NF-F12 PWN 120mm fans. I would like to hook all three to one fan connector on my motherboard to keep them all in sync. Is this a safe thing to do? I have a Gigabyte Gaming 7 X299 motherboard. Thank you. David
  14. Thanks for the info! I'll go with the Tro then. David
  15. Hi, I'm looking to buy an RTX 2080 TI. I'm deciding between Gigabyte Gaming GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Overclocked Triple-Fan and MSI Gaming X Trio GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Triple-Fan. The Gigabyte has a higher core speed at 1650Mhz over MSI's 1350Mhz however the MSI has a higher overclock at 1755Mhz over Gigabyte's 1665Mhz. Is one brand name better over another one? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! David
  16. Hi, I'm looking at buying a RX580. Is it a good idea to buy a used RX 580 card on eBay? If so, is it difficult to flash the original BIOS back on to the card? Thanks. David
  17. Thanks for the reply. I think I'll go with the cheaper OC model.
  18. Hi, I'm looking at getting the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 or the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 Overclocked video card. There's about a $70 difference between the two. The Aorus is $820 on Newegg and the OC model is $750 at the local Micro Center. I can't figure out if it's worth getting the Aorus. The only difference is the Auros is slightly more overclocked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
  19. Thanks for the reply and info. I can't believe I didn't post in the correct forum. I wish there was a delete button. ? David
