  1. Well macs can't game anyways so no real loss here.
  2. 4pin CPU can be used in 8 pin CPU power connector but you shouldn't overclock without a good amount of caution. For stock use and CPUs under 100 watt TDP it should be fine.
  3. I have a few systems setup to fold in my house and one of them isn't running any slots because it never thinks the system is idle. I'm not sure why this is happening or what's causing it. I looked around the system and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I google'd around and can't seem to find anything related to my issue so I figured I'd ask here. Basically the system is set to run on idle but it just says "waiting for idle' forever and never actually starts folding. Any ideas? System is running Windows 10 2004.
  4. So a while back I had my Windows installation installed on an nvme raid setup. I know I had to install some drivers during the installation process to get the disk to show up for install and stuff like that but I'm curious if anyone knows if I need those drivers for stuff like Linux and Macos? I currently have 2 500GB nvme drives in my PC and I'm using 1 for windows and the other has ubuntu installed and a copy of macos I use for hackintosh stuff. I would like to put then in RAID 0 again but I'm not sure if linux and macos will need extra setup to run off the array. Does anyone have any experience running AMD nvme raid on linux or macos?
  5. With Ryzen you really want whatever one has the best IPC/single threaded preofmance. Last gen ryzen stuff (while good) maybe isn't the best choice for gaming unless you can find it with a pretty good deal. For example if you can find a last gen 8 core for much less than a brand new 3000 series then go for it but I wouldn't pay anything close to retail. Maybe look for intel 8th gen too if someone is looking to get rid of some last gen hardware on the cheap.
  6. I did and it doesn't work. I was able ot get it working by creating a local account on both computers with the same name and password but I cant use my main user account.
  7. So for ages now I've been trying to figure out how to share files and folder across my home network but I haven't been able to figure it out. I turn on stuff like network discovery and under network in file explorer I will see the name of the PC I want to connect to but when I click on it Windows asks me for a login/credentials. I am signed in to my Microsoft account on both PCs but I have no idea what I'm supposed to type. Do i put my user name as it spelled in Windows? Do i use my microsoft account email address? What password do I need? Microsoft account or Windows pin? Only way I know how to get access to the files is by allowing GUEST user to access files over the network but that seems kinda insecure and improper. I assume I have to let Windows know that there's other PCs on the network that are allowed to connect but I have no idea how to do that and Google searching hasn't worked. Here's what shows up when i try and connect... I'm not sure what Windows is asking me for as nothing I type works.
  8. According to ASUS you need BIOS version 3803 or newer. 5409 is the latest so use that.
  9. 3200G is an alright CPU but you might wanna go for something with a minimum of 6 cores and 12 threads as some more modern games tend to be heavily multi-threaded.
  10. I would ignore last gen Ryzen as its quite a bit slower. If you don't care and find a good deal then maybe go for it but its not nearly as fast as Ryzen 3000.
  11. Get a new CPU. That CPU is old and will bottleneck that GPU.
  12. Considering its a pre-built I wouldn't recommend upgrading the CPU as even one that should work may not. Maybe use it for folding for the LTT team? You could also use it for streaming video and just hook it up to a TV. Gaming is really off the table unless you play old games on it but then you'd probably be better off just using a more modern PC.
  13. Thats the same thing it just has a different name. Select the correct profile then hit save and exit or whatever its called. If it posts then it should work.
  14. It should be runnign in dual channel but that has nothing to do with clock speeds. You need to enable XMP.
  15. You need to learn how to use the UEFI before you can overclock. If you don't then you're taking a huge risk with your hardware. Just because something is easier to use doesn't mean it's a good idea to use it.
  16. I would avoid that PC for gaming entirely. That CPU is way underpowered for gaming let alone VR. That GPU isn't going to be able to run anything worth playing and 8GB of RAM really isn't enough these days. Also it's probably not worth upgrading either. Maybe repurpose the system for something else like a NAS?
  17. XFX has been making GPUs for ages. I'm not aware of any reason to avoid them. I owned a XFX GTS 250 back in the day and it was fine.
  18. You need to include more information before anyone can help. Blurry photos can be caused by 8000000 diffrent things. Is the camera broken? Are you using manual focus?
  19. Its garbage software and you shouldn't use it. Just use the UEFI settings.
  20. What are you using to check the specs? Just use the specs listed on the game page on Steam or whatever. Also any PC from the past 6 years should be able to run this game.
  21. No the only thing switching the sticks around will do is change what channel the stick is in. Assuming you plugged the sticks into the correct slots so that its running in dual channel everything should be fine. I strongly recommend you look through the motherboard manual as it will have this information in there.
  22. You need to record at much higher FPS. Best option is to use a smartphone with a slow-mo mode that is at least 2x the refresh rate of the display. Also you should be able to tell by looking at it with your eyes.
