  1. More new parts to look at! I'll be sure to research them, thanks for putting this together. Does the EVGA 780 have any big benefits over the MSI 780? Most of the recommendations I've read elsewhere suggest an EVGA card too, I've always wondered why. Thanks again. I read it on a discussion board, it was just speculation though. From what I understand, the Macs that Apple makes right now are either X79 or Z87 chipset CPUs, not Z97, so the chipset isn't officially supported by Apple (yet). After digging deeper it seems people are having success with the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard, though. Thanks for questioning that! Increasingly looks like the 4790k might be the better option. That's very kind, thank you! I'll keep it in mind if I run into any issues. Is your sig build a hackintosh?
  2. Trying to stay under $2000. I edited the original post, thanks! I was going with that CPU due to the 6 cores and Unreal staff recommendation, open to using something different though. I was looking at the i7-4790k Devil's Canyon but read that Hackintosh support might be an issue. I'll take a closer look at the other Z97 i7's, thanks! Never would have though about these options, thanks! I like the graphics card idea, makes a lot of sense. I'll be sure to watch that video too I looked at the h60 instead of the 212 for the longest time, was a bit afraid of liquid cooling but after watching some videos it doesn't seem much harder than installing a fan. Will the h60 be beneficial even if I don't go for a large overclock? I'll take a look at that 4GB card, too. This is really interesting, lots of parts I never would have considered. Thanks so much! Still not sure about the 4790k in a Hackintosh, but with the liquid cooling and overclock it'd be a whole lot faster than the 4930k despite fewer cores. If I can run OSX in a VM instead like Mike_the_B0ss suggested, this build looks really appealing. I've been reading a lot of threads at insanelymac but haven't heard of OSX86.net before, I'll check it out! Thanks for the tip. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I am learning so much! Really appreciate it.
  3. Hi everyone! I'm new to this site, was up way too late after I found the YouTube channel last night. So much stuff to learn! I'm a game programmer and artist, and I've been on a 2011 iMac for the past few years. It's not powerful enough to run Unreal Engine 4, so I'm working on my first desktop build. Excited to get back into the Windows world and check out all the games I've missed, too. The software I'll be using most is Photoshop, Illustrator, AE, Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, and VS2013. I've put this build together based on some recommended specs posted by the Unreal staff. Since I code iOS apps I'd also like to have the option to Hackintosh it in case the iMac dies, so I've tried to follow this recommended build from tonymacx86 as well. Here's my part list, trying to stay under $2000: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Kx8Zzy I'd love some feedback since I'm pretty clueless about all this! The mobo has some pretty bad reviews on Newegg, but I've seen it listed in a lot of successful builds as well. I'm also not entirely sure I've chosen the right PSU and graphics card - I know I want a GeForce and not a Quadro, not sure if the 780 would be a better choice for this type of work though. Really, any tips about anything would be a huge help! Thanks so much for taking a look!
