you can see my system specs in my bio and my question would be would my 770 make a good dedicated physx card. Im upgrading to a 970 for the vram and high oc potential.

You listed AA and Ambient Occlusion but left out Texture Quality, which is why you are wrong. Having to lower Texture Quality in addition to the other two, is a fact. Not sure what you're talking about, maybe you have trouble reading? Perhaps.

Close to max settings isn't max settings.

Oh really? You only saw a couple games exceed 2GB of VRAM maxed out at 1080p? Or did you leave out "maxed out" so you can later on say, oh "I didn't mean maxed out?" There were more games than two that were released this year that consumed over 2GB of VRAM maxed out.

I don't need you to tell me how your card performed, the beauty of the internet is there's benchmarks upon benchmarks that can tell anyone how YOUR CARD PERFORMED. Yea, sure you played BF4 at High Settings with "decent" framerates @ 1080p with a 550 Ti, it cant even handle BF3 @ High settings but you claim you played BF4 @ High settings with decent framerates, nice lies (what are you going to say, "oh I didn't mean the 550 Ti?"):

Firstly I don't swap high end cards every year, I swap cards every two years. Secondly, there once was a time when I didn't make as much money as I do now so I had to cope with not being able to upgrade my cards. So I do have experience with that, and that blows. Trying to exaggerate what you got with those cards, is just plain sad though. I'm not going to lie about what my cheap cards could do, because that's just nonsensical argument when anyone can search what the card is capable of.

You keep using number figures to make it seem like you have the slightest iota of what you are talking about, to make it seem like you are spending a lot more than what you actually are. The 670 retailed for $350 new, 570's were still selling for $200 used. The 670 costs you a whopping $150 investment to gain more than 20% performance increase if you sold the 570. Stop saying, "40%" more money. It dissuades people from the actual figure of what it costs to make the transition, by making it seem like it's "so much more money," without having a baseline figure of what the actual cost is. If you could afford to buy the 570 new, then obviously you can afford $150 for a new card. Not difficult mathematics here.

It might be wasting money to you, but it might not be wasting money to another person. The problem here is you think that a 770 to a 970 is wasting money. Which is just asinine. That there is the problem with your logic. 30% increase in performance, 2GB increase in VRAM, and somehow that is a waste of money. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Anyone who makes an upgrade knows that a 30% increase in performance in the GPU world is a big one. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. And if it only costs you $130-150 to do such an upgrade, it doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that either.

Well, I can tell you right off the bat that you are wrong. He will have to lower texture quality as well as AA, and Ambient Occlusion. A 2GB card will not be able to have textures on Maximum settings if 3GB cards cant have textures on Maximum settings in some games, how is a 2GB card going to have Maximum settings? It won't. Maybe Ambient Occlusion isn't and Maybe AA isn't (unless of course you love jaggies), but Texture Quality is. I want to play games maxed out, not have to make compromises because my card can't handle playing games anymore. Most people playing on the PC, play on a PC because of this reason. Two years, even one and a half years in the PC world is ages. You will see multiples of new cards being released in that time period. That will completely trump yours. Waiting game is the most useless game you can do in PC hardware. It's a waste of time. Waiting and waiting and waiting. It's pointless. The 970 was released for $330, has 4GB of VRAM and offers 30% performance over a 770. Telling the person that's not worth the money, is just crazy talk. If you held onto a 550 Ti, then you should know the difference to upgrading to a half decent card because a 550 Ti ain't shite.

Firstly, the 570 to a 670 was a nice increase in performance:

And if you were smart, like anyone who bought a 670. You would have absolutely not have purchased a 770. That's just a pointless upgrade that no one with half a brain would have done. You would have upgraded to a 780 from a 670. Not a 770, because a 770 is basically a 680 and a 680 is only 10% faster than a 670. Now again, you seem to be removing the variable of what happens when you sell your old card, to pay for the new card. Which means, you aren't paying full price for the new card. And in this case, that mentality remains true. Because if he did have to pay out of pocket for a 970, he would only be paying around $130 for it if he sold his 770 because they go all day everyday for $200 on eBay.

Firstly, don't worry about what other people do with their money. It's not your worry or concern. Secondly, you are talking completely irrational right now. A 30% increase in performance and a 2GB increase in VRAM is a huge gain to be had in the GPU world today. To say that is throwing money out the windows make asbolutely zero sense. We're not telling this person to upgrade from a 670 to a 680, or a 7970GHz Ed to a 280X or a 780 to a 780 Ti or a 970 to a 980. This person is making a more than viable upgrade to a card that is 30% faster, STOCK, than his current card. Not even including OC headroom. And has 2GB more of VRAM. Which means no worries of "lowering settings."

But this is the kicker, the most important one. The guy got the card for free. So end of discussion.

It doesn't matter a 770 will not be able to play triple A games maxed out for two more years period. 2GB of VRAM is a bottleneck already and you want the guy to hold onto the card for two more years? Makes no sense. Of course if you wait, and wait and wait you can always get something better. But there is something better out now, it's called a 970 and you can acquire it for $130 now if you sell the 770 on eBay. Start the auction at $150 and watch it make it to $200 easily like all the other 770's on there. Boom done. Sell card, upgrade to a 970 gain 30% performance and hold onto the card for two years. Then upgrade. But as far as holding onto a 770 for two more years. Good luck. You will have to seriously lower the settings of all your games during that time period.

But those little hurted kiddies trying to start a flame war with me, which is funny.
And yes a i5 will bottleneck a 290 crossfire in some games, like Watchdogs for example.
But who cares about that, its just kiddies behavior of starting flame wars, where nobody even cares about.

So for "op" just go on and grab the 4790K and dont botter about all the BS
Because for you tasks you just need it, Those kiddies only yell from a gaming  point of view.

The i7-2600K is still a great performer and is 3 years old, and I don't think Broadwell will make it irrelevant either, so I'd say it's got a good four years.

Unless we work out something revolutionary in CPUs (I'm talking Pentium 4 to Core 2 type revolutionary), It'll be fine for a number of years

I'd recommend clearing your overclock, updating your bios and trying again?
