  1. Ok so I asked, he said the screens just freeze but stay on, the lights on his Corsair RGB Keyboard are normaly on the rainbow wave effect, that freezes, as does his mouse lighting. It's kinda hard to explain but it's like everything just hangs, and he has to pull the plug or hold his power button down to reboot EDIT: His PC just blue screened, different to normal but at least gives an error
  2. A friend of mine streams using his PC (specs below). After about 2 hours of streaming, his PC crashes, then crashes more regularly after that. He's changed out his PSU, he's done a TIM change and cleaned out his fan filters, yet is still getting freezes. We though initially that his temps were really high when using one software (can't remember which one), but when switching to AMDs own temperature monitoring software, the temps are fine. If anyone has any info for him, let me know and I'll pass everything on. As far as I'm aware, nothing is overclocked at all, he uses OBS to stream and the PC only seems to crash when streaming, so OBS may be the issue. I'm leaning towards a software issue or possible bad RAM at this point Specs: CPU: AMD A10 7850K Kaveri 3.7GHz GPU: ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 960 RAM: 16 GB HyperX DDR3 MB: MSI A88XM Gaming FM2/FM2+ PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 850W
  3. Thanks for taking the time to answer Linus. I understand it's hard to answer everybody's questions, but you certainly took your time answering mine and I thank you for it (again for some reason... but thanks :P). Seriously though, I love what you guys are doing and intend to support you in any way I can, a view I'm sure the majority of the community shares. We're always looking forward to new content from you guys, whether it's a brand new series like Nerd Sports, a sequel like Scrapyard Wars, a Channel Super Fun games night video (For the record, I didn't noticed that the Odious Censor video wasn't edited by the CSF editor), We know you guys work really hard, and the majority of us appreciate it and understand how much work goes into a video. And it's also evident that you guys absolutely love your jobs. I'm not gonna say don't ever change, because change is good, and you should know that most of us will stand by you no matter what (unless you transfer completely from YouTube to an American TV Network. Then I'll never get to watch you at all... I'd probably move to the US at that point just to be able to watch). Just so you know as well, like everybody else, I'm pretty damn hyped for Scrapyard Wars. It's funny, I see the configurations of the systems in SYW and I always get the best performer wrong, the result always surprise me, and that's a pretty damn entertaining thing. You guys really found a goldmine of ideas in SYW, I'm pretty sure I'd still be watching until series 2000 or something Keep up the good work. We're rooting for you
  4. Mircosoft have, according to KitGuru, delayed the release of its long awaited "Redstone 2" update for Windows 10. The release, due to be released this November, will now not release until CES 2017. Redstone 1 is still to be released in June, meaning at least some of the bugs win Windows 10 are to be addressed in the summer. Redstone (1 and 2 combined) is Microsoft's first major update to Windows 10 since its release last year. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I have had a few issues with Windows 10. The search bar bug is a pain in the butt, and for some reason my SLI keeps disabling itself, something I contacted NVIDIA about and they said it's a Windows issue. Hopefully this is fixed in Redstone 1. Have any of you guys had issues with Windows 10 recently? 5. I was responding to the "if money speaks so much, how honest are his reviews really?" part, sorry that wasn't clear
  6. That's a pretty big jump, like wider than the Grand Canyon. I trust Linus and LMG to never take money to do a biased review. Heck they publicly blasted the new Corsair Gaming logo on RGB keyboards, cut it out and replaced it... in a video sponsored by Corsair RGB keyboards. I think that sums up well how unbiased Linus's reviews are. EDIT: Added the link
  7. In life, in business, in everything, things change. Linus has made a decision that, for me, is a business decision, decided to generate revenue to help the business grow. That's business, you make money and use it to expand. If one video/series behind a paywall generates revenue for LMG, enough to hire some more staff or get some new hardware in to review, or generates enough cash that they can get special guests involved in Scrapyard Wars and other series, then that's fine by me. Also as I explained earlier, he didnt lie. The definition of a lie implies intention.
  8. I think the community has some questions for @LinusTech. Obviously it's up to him which to answer, if any, but hopefully he sees this and can put some issues to rest: 1. Will the Nerd Sports content ever not be behind a paywall on Vessel? Will it eventually be released for free at a later date, similar to other Vessel content? 2. Will Nerd Sports be a series, or a one-off video? 3. Has the filming of Nerd Sports impacted any other content produced by LTT? 4. The email from Vessel has claimed the new content to be a CSF feature, which we believe is not true at this point in time. Have you got any updates regarding this matter? 5. The general complaints about the new content have been that expected results have been found, e.g. in the Liquid Cooling heating up the room video, the expected result is that no energy is ever lost (thanks, physics...), so the heat output should be the same. 6. Can we expect some kind of schedule at any point in the future (besides days where NDAs finish) Things like Holy S**t Sundays, Workbench Wednesdays and other alliteration based days? And finally... 7. When can we expect the release of the new Scrapyard Wars? If anyone has any questions they want to add, just reply with them and I'll add them to this. Like I said earlier, no guarantee Linus decides to respond at all (I'm not thinking he will, he sounds very busy at the moment with all of the content coming out) but hopefully we can get some clarification soon.
  9. And he does neither. He's only taking the money from Vessel for two reasons (in my mind, I can't speak on behalf of LMG, Linus or any employees of LMG): 1. To expand LMG, investing in more staff, better hardware etc, to create better content. 2. To create a great series for Vessel. Neither of those are something I believe are problems, though your thoughts may vary I guess (anybody's thoughts, not LAwLz, who I don't believe is attacking Linus and I apologise if this comes accross that way)
  10. And if Vessel has made an error then Vessel has made an error and will clarify if need be. Based on the fact that CSF has a Patreon, I doubt that LMG would take money from vessel under the CSF name. I suspect the author of the email wanted to say something like "from the Creators of Channel Super Fun" which would be fine and dandy, but made an error (shit happens - I don't think this was intentional, otherwise I would expect them to write "A new Linus Tech Tips series" as it's the bigger channel). I honestly couldn't care less whether or not that changes, but obviously it means something to somebody, so it will probably be clarified at some point.
  11. Misrepresentation is a legal term, Linus has no legal contract with viewers to produce anything, therefore he could not be found guilty of misrepresentation... To play Devil's Advocate: "the action or offence of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something" Did Linus give a false/misleading account of the content produced by LMG? It could be argued he did, however, we are not lawyers (ok some of us may be lawyers, but hear me out). We are not here to decide whether or not Linus is guilty of anything, we're viewers of content, and things change, that's life unfortunately. Is anybody who asks for a divorce after saying "till death do us part" at marriage guilty of misrepresentation? No.
  12. English definitions of Lie: Be in or assume a horizontal or resting position on a supporting surface. An intentionally false statement. Source: https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=definition+of+lie&meta=&gws_rd=ssl Conclusion: Linus did not give a false statement intentionally, therefore did not lie.
  13. The only gripe I had initially was no Android app, but I found a way to get content to play anyway, and now we have the app, all is well
  14. He didn't. An agreement was made between Vessel and LMG, and it looks to me like Vessel announced that agreement before LMG could address the community regarding the agreement (possibly due to a NDA or simple mis-communication). At the end of the day, business have to make money to survive. They have to pay their staff and pay their expenses. Do you expect Luke, Nick, NVB, Brandon, Edzel, Dennis, John, Yvonne (anybody else who I missed, I apologise. I really need coffee rn) would be willing to work for free forever? Of course not, they have families, they have bills and they need to be able to eat for crying out loud. And one last thing, the content being created exclusively for Vessel doesn't change any of the content submitted on YT. Nerd Sports, as Linus stated, was produced outside of normal working hours, i.e. the production of Nerd Sports hasn't impacted the production of any other content, at least if it has, I haven't noticed.
  15. That's your decision, but I want to make one thing clear. Linus didn't lie to anybody, he made a mistake, and like a decent human being, he admitted his mistake and took responsibility for it, and that to me shows somebody who is super passionate about what he does and will do anything to keep LMG alive and well, it's his baby after all. If you don't want to watch LTT content any more then that's your decision, no need to make it public or force it on others.
  16. I have to say, I've been watching LTT for about 3 years now, and at each point of change I've always been skeptical, it's just who I am, never convinced until I see the results, and every time I've been pleasantly surprised. Linus and the crew really know how to produce great, informative content over 3 channels, when most people struggle to run one. I think I'm coming to the end of my free year of Vessel and I can honestly say I WILL be subscribing again, mainly because a video from Tech Quickie came out on Vessel just before I had an exam that included the topic of the video (Apple Pay) and definitely upped my marks by about 10%. Mightn't sound like much but in a degree you take all you can get. I absolutely love you guys, if I ever met any of you (Yes, even you Dennis), I'd buy you a beverage of some kind as a token of my appreciation (I said ONE Berkel... but yes a double JD counts as one). I trust you guys to do what's best for everyone, you've always put the viewer first and I commend you for it. And if you guys ever need a man on the ground in the UK for whatever reason, I'll happily volunteer. Good luck with the future, though I'm not sure you'll need it (unless Whonnock server dies again). EDIT: Just watched the new Vessel episode, so I guess you won't need a ton of luck after all
  17. No problem mate, any more questions just let me know, i'm following this thread so if you reply here I'll get a notification
  18. Check that your FPS is the same in both situations. I've had FPS drop by 10-15 frames by being in borderless compared to windowed, and in most situations that's a bad thing, but if you're getting tearing and borderless solves it, that could be why. You FPS may have dropped enough to stop tearing, but not enough to go below the refresh rate of the monitor
  19. That didn't pop up in search results, but it is a couple of months old so that's possibly why, but my bad for not picking up on it. The only difference between the two is that Apple is now (reportedly) looking to use OLED in 2017 on the iPhone 7S, instead of in 2018, so if that's considered news then put it in news for me please, if not leave it here
  20. Ok so your 700W unit is actually dangerous right now, I would recommend not using the PC at all unless it's completely necessary. with your current config, a good quality unit with a continuous power output of at least 450W is what you need. With this info, check out http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html. It's a great list that separates the good from the mediocre and the downright dangerous. Pick anything Tier 3 and up that can provide 450W or more, then look at the local stores or online stores that deliver to your area, and get cracking
  21. I think he means risky as in, even when unplugged, the capacitors can still hold some juice, so if you're not careful you could be killed or seriously injured by taking a PSU apart.
  22. I've only ever bought 1 PSU, and got it from eBay as brand new, open box. An XFX Pro Series Black Edition 1250w that should've cost about £200-£250, and I got it for £60, works to this day powering SLI GTX 970s. But even if buying used, make sure to ask what the unit was used for. Yeah, people may not be honest but it's always good to ask. If it was used in a mining rig 24/7 for an extended period of time, or if you get no response or generally feel a bit iffy about buying, think about looking elsewhere. Also ask about the age of the unit, as the maximum continuous power output of PSUs can decrease slightly over time. Finally, whether buying used OR new, don't buy a dogs*** unit. Get a good quality unit. Once I find the link for the LTT PSU List I'll post it here. EDIT: Can't find the LTT list right now, so here's the Toms Hardware one http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html Bought a 2nd-hand Z77 Motherboard for £20, was supposed to be £70 or so (ASUS P8Z77-v LK). Was listed as "For Parts or not Working" as it was untested, contacted the seller and asked if I could send him an LGA1155 Celeron to test it. Turns out he forgot he had one and it posted just fine. Yeah I took a risk as some of the slots could've been dead but luckily for me they weren't. CPU was also 2nd-hand. Core i7-3770k, came after the board. Bought one from a CeX store (2nd hand shop in the UK, though I swear I saw one on holiday in NY State), dead. Not a problem, got a refund. Found one on eBay for the same price, did my due diligence (contacted the seller, he confirmed it was working and said I would get a refund if it wasn't. This is very important, as if you end up in a dispute on eBay, you can use the messages as evidence), bought the component, works and even OCs to 4.5GHz at 1.2v. So yeah, my 2nd hand buying experience has been pretty good to be honest. I have heard the horror stories and luckily, I haven't experienced them myself, but I always protect myself against fraud, bad sellers etc (with the mobo, I took a risk for £20, sometimes it's worth it, but I wouldn't recommend this). TL;DR The bottom line on buying used is to be careful, do you research, do your due diligence, and use some common sense.
  23. Looks like more reports are surfacing about this, with cnet reporting the same information about the iPhone 7S, and also references a $12 Billion deal with Samsung and LG, citing 9to5Mac.com as its source on the matter. Looks like Apple are going with OLED after all, but we'll only really get to see in 2017 I guess. Sources: Cnet: http://www.cnet.com/news/apples-iphone-7s-could-sport-battery-saving-oled-screen/ 9to5mac: http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/02/apple-oled-iphone-2017/ (Note: WIll add this to original post)
  24. I think Linus did a Handy Tech with some really low profile SATA data cables, if it's power cables you need a braided extension with a straight connector might be the way to go
  25. If you can, try and stick the SSD down with some Velcro. Only other thing I would suggest is maybe trying some better cable management, but having never built in a Prodigy M, I don't know how hard that would be. Great build What are the specs?
