  1. Say an unknown company decides to release a Games Console for around £600/$800 in Q4 2014. The console has the equivalent of an r9 290x, i5-4690k, and has 16GB RAM, yet has a dedicated OS similar to Sony's XMB or Microsofts windows 8 type OS that the xbox one uses. Would the console be a success or failure on the open market? Would a console like this cause Microsoft and Sony (and nintendo?) to release the next generations of their consoles early? Would you be interested in seeing a product like this on the market as an alternative to the XB1/PS4, or even a PC? Just a thought guys
  2. Yeah I figured that out tbh I didn't have much cash to spend at the time of purchase, and the closest 64GB SSD (Big enough to hold OS, sorta) was around £70 at the time, and this was £30 and would decrease boot times etc.
  3. To provide a fair comparison? The idea of this video was to show a true fair comparison, yet he used a very old HDD with a pretty much brand new SSD. Little bit unfair in my eyes so this would provide a level playing field for both devices. It would also be quite useful to run these drives for YEARS to see how long it would take for each to eventually die
  4. Does anyone else think the best way to do a HDD vs SSD test would be some sort of RAID 1 setup with, say, a 500gb HDD and 500gb SSD, and run them for a good 6 months to a year, then test them? (Not sure if this would work but something similar needs to be used to get a true comparison)
  5. Lol it's alright, thanks though
  6. Lol i know. to be fair I do have a 32GB ReadyCache SSD from SanDisk, getting it RMA'd though as it's not working, selling the replacement for a proper 120GB SSD. Just been having a look on amazon and the Samsung 840 EVO and Kingston HyperX are around the same price for 120gb, dunno which to go for lol
  7. true, but at the same time the age of an SSD would have an affect of some sort wouldn't it? I know there are no mechanical parts but surely time/use should affect an SSD similarly to how it affected my (recently deceased) flash drive?
  8. Great test, but how would, say, a 2 year old HDD and a 2 year old SSD fair against each other? As far as i could tell in that vid it was Slicks old HDD and a new (or newer at least) SSD
  9. R9 290 as long as it's not a reference card. Extra gig of vRAM does help in a lot of newer games even at 1080p, and the ability to OC to get performance close to the 290x.
  10. Ok so I've noticed for a while that my PC doesn't seem to like fullscreen games or applications (including YouTube and Netflix) very much. It tends to run these applications in fullscreen for a bit, then tab out to the desktop (Game) or go into windowed mode (Applications). As I was recently playing BioShock Infinite, it started to exit to the desktop more frequently, when I was actually able to play, the fps I was getting was differing massively (1080p, Ultra settings with AA, I was getting anywhere between 1 and 60fps with v-sync, and up to 180 without). I also noticed when playing BioShock Infinite that my GPUs fans started getting really loud, as well as my Disk being used at 100% (Shown in Task Manager) with System using 27.1MB/s (i think that's write but could be read). Has anyone else had this issue and/or been able to fix it? Not just for BioShock but for all other applications too. I should probably also mention that my GPU is overclocked (See http://gyazo.com/daf56d25bd480312f979955e840a3340), but that I was having this issue before I overclocked my GPU (And I think even before I bought this GPU but i'm not 100% on that). Thanks guys PC Specs: Intel core i5 3470 3.2GHz Asus P8 H61-MX R2.0 (AKA The Megacrap...) Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 8GB DDR3-1333 RAM Sapphire Dual-X r9 280x OC (See above link) XFX Pro Series Black Edition 1250W Modular PSU Zalman Z11 Plus Windows 8.1 Pro
  11. PSU blocks the bottom fan mount. Could be a bit ghetto and use some Zip-Ties but temps seem pretty good
  12. ok thanks guys I think I'm gonna disconnect them then
  13. So the Zalman Z11 comes with 2 80mm case fans in the side panels to cool down any drives mounted in the front of the case. Although these are a good feature, the fans are EXTREMELY loud compared to the Corsair AF140s I have installed in the front and top of the case, and the Cooler Master BC120 I installed at the back. If i were to disconnect these 80mm fans, I know the computer would be a hell of a lot quieter, but will the overall airflow of the PC be affected significantly enough to stop me from doing this? In the bays which these fans supposedly cool, I only have one drive (WD Green 2TB 3.5" HDD) as my SSD is mounted behind the motherboard. I also have not overclocked anything in this PC, apart from the Graphics Card which came overclocked as standard. Oh and I know Linus did an unboxing of this case where he said the 80mm fans exhaust are installed in an exhause setup, yet mine came pre-installed as intakes. They are also powered by Molex, so their speeds cannot be lowered in the BIOS or by a fan controller. Thanks guys
  14. So which fan would be the quietest whilst also giving good airflow? Tmcclelland as far as I know the EVO uses a 120mm fan, I can double check that later on but I'm pretty confident Hidden Orange I'll definitely check out those Scythe fans, see what they're all about HueyTheGod I wonder if the Quiet Edition SP120s are that much quieter? Thanks for all your feedback guys I didn't realise how strong a community this is, glad to be a part of it
  15. Ok so I may have gotten my noctua fans mixed up. I think for cooling using a heatsink, the NF-P12 is better than the NF-F12 as, afaik, F stands for Flow (as in air flow) and P stands for Pressure (as in Static Pressure). Can anyone confirm this?
  16. So General consensus is Noctua spwath I'll definitely take a look at the Silverstone ap123, Dubesta that's exactly what I thought, which is why I'm switching back to 1 aftermarket fan
  17. I watched Linus's video about Push-Pull configuration, so I decided to remove the second fan I have on my Hyper 212 EVO (CM BC 120 to be exact). I now want to swap out the stock fan for one that will achieve similar cooling but at lower noise levels. I am currently looking at the Corsair SP120, and Linus's favourite fan (afaict) the Noctua NF-F12 (Both PWM versions). Of these fans (or any others if you have a suggestion), which would you pick for cooling my CPU? I am not overclocking it, I just want to keep it cool to maybe extend its lifetime. Thanks guys Build specs: Intel core i5-3470 @ 3.2GHz Asus P8H61-MX R2.0 (aka megacrap) Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 8gb DDR3-1333 Sapphire r9 Dual-X 280x WD Green 2TB SanDisk 32GB ExpressCache drive (to be replaced in the future by 4 128gb SSDs in Raid 10) XFX Pro Series Black Edition 1250W PSU (Overkill but bought for less than the RRP of the 750W version) Zalman Z11 Plus case Pic: http://i757.photobucket.com/albums/xx217/chris_gurrell/10175049_10152415595878548_3970267739983029924_n.jpg
  18. Ok thanks guys, so basically it doesn't matter? I'll leave mine fan down for the time being then, just making sure to clean the desk more often to prevent dust building up
  19. Ok so I'm currently running the PC on a hard wood table, will probably never be using it on carpet. Here's an image of my PC before i flipped the PSU yesterday http://gyazo.com/1035513f3b207e7a7c9da4bb7f050ae5. As you can see the GPU is directly above the PSU, so my thinking was that I didn't want my PSU fan sucking in the cool air that my GPU needs, but I may be wrong lol
  20. I've been watching Linus's videos for a couple of days now (yeah I'm new here lol) and I watched 2 videos of builds, one where he explained why the PSU should be fan up, and one where he explained why the PSU should be fan down. As you can imagine I'm super confused I was doing some cable management yesterday and decided to flip my power supply completely (My case has a vent for the PSU fan so don't worry about that ) as the motherboard power connectors, when the psu is flipped, are closer to the hole where you thread the power cable through on the PSU (It's modular). Should I keep my PSU fan down or flip it back up again? Thanks guys Specs: Intel core i5-3470 @ 3.2GHz (Stock) Asus P8-H61-MX motherboard (I know it's uATX/mATX lol, but it gets the job done) 8GB DDR3-1333 Sapphire r9 280x Dual-X OC XFX Pro Series Black Edition Modular 1250W 80+ Gold (Overkill I know, but got this on a great deal, new for around £85, so say $120) Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Case
