  1. my NAS is used lying on its side, with window facing up as it is placed on top of an Ikea LACK coffee table underneath my table. the only airflow in that area is the rear fan pulling air out of the case, but i don't think that fan is doing much work anyways with the 2 fans on my DRP4 blowing air right into it.
  2. There are currently a total of 10 HDDs in my unRAID NAS. I have a few spare drives (new from RMA) that I've wanted to install but haven't been able to come up with any ideas for a long time. There are 8 HDDs installed in the HDD bays and i used 2x 5.25" to 3.5" adapters to install 2 more drives in the 5.25" Bays. Is there any way you guys can think of to install more drives in the case? I was thinking of finding something that could mount to the top fan mounts which i currently do not use for fans. Would greatly appreciate if someone could link a product which that would work with or any 3D printable adapters that might work. I would greatly appreciate any advice you guys could provide, thanks in advance! Below is a photo of my NAS.
  3. sounds good, goodluck . if you’re lucky some stores do put down customers’ names or contact numbers in the invoice so they may be able to pull it up through those means too.
  4. you could check if all ports are SATA3 6Gbps by looking up the model of your motherboard and checking the manual online. If they are 6Gbps, they shouldn’t have much of any difference. in transferring large files between ssds you are more likely to encounter slowdowns due to cache filling up than any controller issues.
  5. do quote us in replies by using the arrow you see on the bottom of our replies. otherwise we will not see your reply
  6. online purchases have a purchase history. if you bought it at a local computer store, you could try calling them up letting them know that you lost your receipt and ask them if they can bring up an old receipt. as long as it is not too long ago and they haven’t cleared the reciept logs for some reason (very unlikely to clear unless a change in system etc) it is very likely they will be able to print you a copy.
  7. also, have you inspected the mains cable for any damage and tried a different one. the psu isn’t truly “on” until minimally the paper clip test is performed. this is wholeheartedly agree with. if your mains cable is damaged CUT THE CONNECTORS AWAY for the safety of others and throw them in the trash.
  8. https://www.silverstonetek.com/downloads/QA/PSU/PSU-Paper Clip-EN.pdf could you follow this guide and perform the paper clip test on the PSU
  9. build looks solid. but for heavy video editing especially in premiere pro or after effects, i’d recommend adding 2 more ssds. One that is 500GB-1TB purely for your scratch disk/cache, and one more 1-2TB to put your video files on. I’d avoid working off the boot drive if possible for better performance.
  10. ESD bag -> bubble wrap -> slightly oversized box -> pack with more bubble wrap and scrunched newspaper.
  11. There is a chance that there is a short within the power supply, or a bad power cable. I’d recommend trying first a plug on a different breaker to rule out current overload (very unlikely). Secondly I’d try a different power cord. If both don’t solve the issue it is likely to be an internal short in the PSU. In that case replace it, probably covered under warranty.
  12. I won’t do something like run an OS off it (unsure of its long term reliability), but for simple tasks like copying files around it should be fine. Another good use I can see is for final project deliveries, a photographer or videographer can put the final files in there to pass on to their client, although with google drive being incredibly affordable now I personally just send them a google drive link and tell them to download it within 2 weeks. Why it’s so cheap? because economies of scale.
  13. I feel the easiest way to setup a large scale NAS for someone inexperienced is unraid. Yes it is not free, but its easy to setup, can have 2 parity drives, and you can just pop in extra drives. Otherwise I’d recommend one of the Truenas variants, good one will be Truenas Core I believe. but for 20 drives, I’d recommend a minimum of 2 RAID-Z2 arrays with 10 disks in each, or ideally 3 pools of 6 or 7 drives each.
  14. There are actually a ton of Z690 boards with 2x x16 slots. Question is, how much you wanna spend.
  15. Yup that should be good too, was just listing a couple models I remember off the top of my head.
  16. 600W is honestly pushing it for a 3070 Ti, A highly factory overclocked FTW3 at that. I personally won’t be comfortable putting even a good 600w unit in a system with those specs.
  17. Essentially what I would say to myself, but I cannot lie that it will PROBABLY *fingers crossed* work fine. But I still won’t recommend it.
  18. For this level of system, I’d not recommend it. Will it work? Probably. But this is a PSU I only recommend for entry level and low end systems. Not a fantastic unit, but shouldn’t set your house on fire. PSU is one of the things I’d never recommend cheaping out on, its the last thought of part of a build as it isn’t flashy nor does it directly impact performance. Think of the PSU as the heart, you won’t want a low quality heart pumping the juices in your PC won’t you.
  19. Yes a quality 750W unit would be just fine. Corsair RM750/RM750x, Seasonic GX-750, MSI MPG A750GF
  20. 750W should be enough, but I’d recommend an 850W unit for future upgradability. Units I personally recommend are as follows. Corsair RM850/RM850x, Seasonic GX-850, MSI MPG A850GF. The 750w variants of these PSUs will work too to save a couple bucks.
  21. Glad this helped. Updating the BIOS will usually reset everything to default. Unsure why it defaulted to Integrated Graphics, as usually the default is Auto. But it is what it is, good to see it solved your issue ^.^
  22. install your ssd into the old machine that works, open windows disk management by typing dskmgmt in the search bar. Select your drive, Right Click, Properties, Volumes. See if it is in MBR or GPT. \ If drive is in MBR, try converting it to GPT by following this. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-convert-mbr-disk-gpt-move-bios-uefi-windows-10 Then try in your system again.
  23. Makes sense, good way to recoup the cost. good to hear its working out
  24. question could be better phrased with "what cooler would be good for my cpu, easy mounting would be a great benefit" Without knowing what cpu you have it's hard to recommend a sensible cooler, I could recommend a Dark Rock Pro 4 or NH-D15 for everything but that would be abit excessive for most configs.
  25. Dark Rock Pro 4 is a breeze compared to a hyper 212, those are really a PITA. Noctua coolers hard to come by where I'm at, so never got to try one. Scythe is ok, not a PITA but not a breeze either That's some truly dumb engineering right there, glad be quiet decided to basically rip off Noctua's Secufirm.
