Wow who would have thought that open circuit defaulting to device protection is the proper and safety first design.

If it were a fundamental nvidia problem, then it would be widespread. Don't think we're seeing that.
If it may be limited to some AIB cards, they'll have to work that out and handle it accordingly.
AMD's cooler problem was handled proportionately. They found the cause (with some help from the tech community) and it can be handled through RMA.
No normal user level software should be able to damage hardware. Exceptions include the likes of overclocking tools and firmware updates which can change the operating state outside of normal even if temporarily.
Even with above in consideration, it is a bit of a waste to have uncapped fps in non-performance areas of software, so it would be nice to have a sane limit to that.

Designs wont be on such a tight knife edge that going ever so slightly past its rating results in catastrophic failure. It could be a combination of tolerances on a whole bunch of parts. By luck one build may get all the worst case tolerances, individually still in tolerance, that pushes the overall operation point somewhere it shouldn't be. Still this is a bit of a stretch to think it would lead to damage as opposed to instability.

It may not be zero point. I don't do e-sports games, but understand it is standard there to run as many fps as you can, often way higher than display refresh. It can give latency improvements in what's being shown is as close to what's happening at the time, not something snapshotted a refresh cycle ago.

No its not really lazy for publishers, that is not a real fix. Under no circumstances should that MATER. It should not be possible to accidently non maliciously BREAK hardware.

If this were AMD cards breaking in a new game, all the tech youtubers would be making videos on it and insisting AMD recall every single card, because that happened with the reference 7900XTX's.

In case anyone is even trying to debate this: This is 100% a hardware fault.

No software, whether its a game or driver or stress test, should ever be able to cause physical damage to hardware. Nor should misconfigured fan profiles or basic overclocking.

We are decades past the point where your CPU blows up if there is no cooler installed. There are supposed to be protections in place for this kind of thing and clearly they aren't working.

But to play devil's advocate there is always going to be a small amount of faulty hardware sold. Social media just amplifies the problem.

Would not surprise me if it was a menu issue on that cutscene causing an issue, but again its more on shoddy build quality then the game itself.

Assuming you're gaming which would be apt since you posted in the gaming section, the 6700xt is unboubtly the better choice since it's a significantly stronger card. What's the rest of your specs though and what's the price for both of them?

I have a radical solution for this.  The whole idea of cell phone use while driving being inherently bad should be done away with.  At least the idea that it is uniquely dangerous compared to other things.   Instead just fine or imprison people who use a phone while driving that results in an accident or other violation.  Like flying a plane which involves a degree of human simultaneous multi tasking some people can do it others cannot.

The cost of this freedom and lack of surveillance would be an increase in accidents.

Other similar dangers.  Eating a big double stuffed sub or big double cheese burger while driving can be really distracting.   No one gets a ticket for it.   So do away with the cameras and accept that accidents happen.

So i kind of agree with Hyundai here and think its a good call!

Infotainment systems are getting more and more distracting. its needs reigning in.
Even using car play takes a users attention away from the road far too much.

I love mazdas take on no touch screens.

While you have a point regarding physical buttons it is still better than touchscreen in most cases when you are familiar with the car since you will learn where the button is and feel your way towards it without looking down.

Also a thing I've noticed on touchscreens is that if you go on an uneven road it's much harder to hit the correct spot, resulting in doing something you did't intend to do, when trying to do something while driving (even when looking at the screen) while with a button you can feel when you have the finger in the correct spot before actually pressing it preforming the action.

i can understand a radio that has a touchscreen, maybe makes scrolling through menus easier

But having essential stuff like hazard lights, climate control, etc. only be controllable by touchscreen is just idiotic, especially if you have to dive through menus to get to them

Also when the hell did this internet connected garbage even happen? i mean theres even yt videos of ppl hacking head units and shutting off your car remotely while you are driving

Oh well i dont gotta worry about this nonsense cause im gonna be buying an old 70s car (currently debating on what to buy, probs a corolla) where basically everything is analog with no ridicolous computer controls, besides anti hotwiring is simply a matter of putting a hidden killswitch or 2.

but a normie doesnt need to go that far back, even something from the early 2010s or 2000s will still have all the essentials and creature comforts without having ridicolous touchscreen on everything or internet connected car that can be controlled remotely and data harvested, and the only computer would be the ecu

    Summary
Sang Yup Lee, Hyundai's head of design said that the company's commitment to keep physical buttons in the car is rooted in safety concerns.

In some modern vehicles like Tesla, adjusting things such as the volume or climate control settings require the driver to dive into menus on a touch screen that can be to distracting for the driver and can cause an accident as your eyes are now looking at the screen more than the road. With physical buttons, the tactile feedback of buttons, dials and switches let the drivers keep their eyes on the road. Lee did hint that at the moment this is a priority for Hyundai today, but things may change in the future.
Touchscreens and touch controls did offer some compactness to the design of modern cars and it can also be cheaper and easier to implement than populating buttons everywhere, but for the past decade touch controls are less responsive and less practical than simple buttons.

    My thoughts
Personally I think this is a great move by Hyundai. I've seen videos from LMG that even bring up this issue and while some touch controls are nice, the basic things need to stay as physical buttons such as road hazard, climate controls and volume controls. From personal experience with family members who own a Tesla or other newer cars, a lot of them loved the "coolness" of it, but once the initial excitement of something new and shiny became an every day thing, they started to tell the rest of the family how much they miss the physical buttons. I think a lot of other car manufactures are going to take note of this and it might even cut down on cost overall as rare earth metals to create touch screens is becoming more expensive and at the end of the day it can break and become e-waste.

Cinebench family is minimally affected by ram performance. That's why it's been preferred by higher core count benchers to demonstrate their potential.

I'm not so familiar with 7zip benching but I'd expect that to depend on a combo of cache size and ram perf somewhat.

From an overclocker perspective, are these even overclocked? The R20 result isn't even at PPT limit. Temps are already pretty high so these are looking like hot chips as is traditional for Ryzen. So on one hand, I think at least the R20 result might not be far off stock, and there is much more to get out of it. On the other hand, cooling for best performance is going to be challenging even at stock.

did they? most of their products on 7nm are near or at EOL so i wouldn't call a reduction in wafers a overestimation of demand unless i knew they were planning to cut it less which we dont know.
and every article i see around this issue shares my sentiment of it not being a reactionary event but a planned one.
Just to be clear i still agree that no one can predict everything.

"quantum leap forward" - so the smallest discrete step imaginable. It's beyond me how things like this can end up in the keynote of a multi-billion dollar company.
But kudos to Nvidia for not being buttheads (like some other companies) and allowing people to jump back to any point of the stream, rewatching it or starting late with 1.5x the speed (in 2022 this should be taken for granted but sadly it's not a matter of course).

On first glance, we are beyond 1080p and even 1440p gaming and the 4090 only makes sense for 2160p gaming or multi-monitor setups.
I don't like the 4080 segregation. Just call the middle child a 4080 Ti, especially if not only the VRAM configuration is different, but also the compute performance. This is unnecessary confusing for costumers. And how are retailers supposed to communicate a $300 price difference for the very same model to their costumers? WTH, Nvidia?
