  1. My CPU randomly spikes to around 90 to 100%. It will happen at random times and rather frequently. Its also rather slow but im assuming thats because of high cpu usage. I will using word or just browsing and my laptop will freeze up and not work for 10 seconds or so because the cpu is maxed out. I've disabled programs from launching on startup to try to make it faster, I've cleaned the registry with CCleaner, ran malewarebytes and 41 bad items, installed CCleaner and ran an entire system scan with no bad items found and its still spiking. I don't want to do a complete factory reset because I have alot on here and idk what I may need so I just want to keep it all. Any sudjestions on what would stop the spikes?
  2. But I still am somewhat lost on what to actually adjust in the bios. Im bluescreening on 4.3 and idk why. Should i reset everything to default and ONLY adjust the voltage and multiplier? Or what else should i adjust/do?
  3. http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/m/multipli.htm This says the clock ratio and cpu multiplier are the same. Also i didnt touch the FSB speed, its till at 100mhz.
  4. So im a noob overclocker, just started for the irst time last night. I have a Gigabyte Z97-HD3 and im trying to overclock my Pentium G3258. I cant get it over 4.2 Ghz without it blue screening. I have it at 42 for the clock ratio (isnt that the same as the multiplier? Not 100% sure) which makes it go at 4.2 Ghz, then i have the voltage at 1.200v and its stable on prime 95 running at around 57-60 degrees celcius. If i increase the ratio to 43/4.3 Ghz it blue screens. And i know this cpu can run higher than 4.2, upwards of 4.5 or 4.6Ghz. So why am i blue screening? Also i changed the ratio when it starts up, when it starts its at 3.9Ghz and on load goes up to 4.2Ghz. But the voltage stays the same and if i up it to 4.0 Ghz and keep the load ratio at 4.2Ghz it will crash on startup, so i really am lost. I think im going to reset it to default settings and start from scratch because i watched a few videos and tweaked a couple settings i cant remember and that might have something to do with it as well. I dont know much about the other controls seeing im new and this is my first time. So a little guidance would be nice. I trust the LTT community, thank you. 5. I have an GA-Z97-HD3 with a 760. And I am looking to overclock and i want to update the bios, but it gives me two opptions. Rev1 and Rev2. I dont know which one to choose or how to find out. I know if i download the wrong one it could be bad. Couldnt i brick it? Not 100% sure. Thats why i want to make sure before i do anything. Thanks.
  6. I just built my first PC and I got it all together and I turned it on and nothing came on the screen. It said no signal foe a second and went away. I took out the GPU, reinstalled the RAM, and switched around the cables in the back. The monitor was working the day before so idk what could cause it. I read maybe the battery on the motherboard could be it. The CMOS or something. So I'm going go buy a new one tomorrow to see if that's it. But I'm pretty lost and need help. Thanks!
  7. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152654 This would be a better option for a laptop if you were getting laptop instead of a PC. But building a PC is going to be way better in ever way other than mobility like said before.
  8. For anyone here that is saying guns are "bad" and "dangerous" you're obviously uneducated and very clouded by the media and what everyone else has to say that has probably never been around guns their whole life. I for one have been around them my whole life and haven't felt the slightest bit in danger. Guns are not dangerous. People are dangerous. The focus should be on people not the inanimate piece of metal that is perfectly harmless. The reporters from the big magazines and news shows that have only seen guns on cops waists that write about guns being bad have no business doing so. They know nothing about guns and have no reason talking about them. They couldnt tell me a bolt from a cartridge and they have the nerve to write a 4 paragraph article on how guns are bad? This also goes for anyone on this thread that is bashing guns. Its a shame that a small (idiotic) few can ruin everything for the bunch. Truely a shame of what this country is turing into.
  9. So i turned my laptop on the other day that i use for everyday travel for videos and searching stuff online, and it said there was no bootable device. So I went into the bios and it said it wasnt even detecting my hard drive. So I think I had a hard drive failure (correct me if I'm wrong. I didnt have much time to look into it so I'm basing this all off experience haha). But anyway I figured if it was completely fried I could just install Ubantu and factory reset the laptop so i get windows back and have the only storage be a 64Gb SD card. That way I would be able to at least use the laptop for the internet and such mostly. So how would I go about doing that using Ubantu. Better yet is it even possible? I am a noob with it and very seldomly use it.
