Do not worry, I already know 970 isnt king on 1440p, deciding on 980ti or 970 G1 SLI already If the only major differences are 144p and the panel types, then I will get the pb278q because there is no need for a 144p monitor for me. Thank you for the info and how much of a major upgrade would it be for the ROG swift, is it only the G-sync and how much better is that from v-sync
-
So I built my RIG back in January of 2013 and since then only upgraded fan or two and my GPU to a 970 G1. Now I am thinking it is time to go 27" 1440p with my 21" as a side monitor. When i got my rig I was sure that I would buy a Asus PB278Q because it seemed perfect at the time(ROG Swift launched a month or two after this). Now I am torn, I would not get the ROG Swift because that's too expensive but I saw that Newegg is having a sale on the BenQ XL2730Z and wondered how much better it is than the 278q for the $150 more. Now as far as I know, the BenQ has Freesync and the 278q does not as well as the BenQ having 1ms and the Asus having 5ms. The biggest difference I am thinking is the panel it seems, since one is TN and one is PLS, all i know about panels is that TN is alittle worse for colors. Let me know which is better for the price I am seeing, and also let me know if I am missing a monitor that is better than these two, thanks in advance!

I am going to put the pb278Q into my friends build but for me I am on a budget and I will get a Qnix and buy a new stand myself, I have talked to a lot of people and they say they have great experiences with their korean monitors. Also sorry, first glance at the sight just didn't seem to trustworthy but after reading a good portion and seeing the rest it does seem like an indepth review
-
That's a bold statement to say because that is the first REAL bad thing I've hear about this monitor. Also I kinda don't trust the website you showed because it seems unprofessional. I'd like more than just one person saying it's bad to completely change my opinion

Damn you're right about the RAM might having some issues, I got it because it had a combo discount, their the exact same card so I really didn't think anything of it. -
Any chance a Gigabyte 970 G1 will drop in price during the holidays?

I have a gigabyte windforce 770 and I personally think it's the best cooler on the market, I plan on getting a 970 G1 all the way with their improvements they made on the windforce. I am building a build for my friend so I gave him 2 MSI 970's because he had a more red/black type build, so it's mostly personal preference but it isn't like their THAT different from eachother. -

before when I was building my first rig, I was mainly looking at the 280x and was and still am a strong supporter for the AMD. Anyway I had gotten alittle more cash so I went for the 770, which is better if you can afford it. But I'd rather a 970 than a 290 anyday -

you got a G1, what resolution/monitor are you running it with? I am really stuck, thinking if I should get a QNIX qx2710 for christmas(not knowing for sure if the 770 will run well) and get a 970 G1 down the line, or get a 970 G1 now and a Qnix down the line -

the thing is though, will my gigabyte GTX 770, overclocked with 111% power limit, Core clock 1187-1239 and MHZ at 7040, do the job to perform well for a long enough time?

I have about a $350 ish range budget for a Christmas gift and if Ido not get the 970 G1 than I will get the Qnix and later get a 970 for the Qnix. I also know that the QNIX is a PLS and panel and not IPS like the ASUS one, I hear the only difference is that the IPS is more vivid with the colors and some say the QNIX is better for gaming. Thanks in advance and let me know!

Okay so thanks to everyone's replies! I made a few considerations and landed here... I love gigabytes windforce cooler the best but I went with the MSI's because they matched the color scheme with everything. I really think this build will kick all ass updated -
So I am going to be building a rig for a friend and I am picking out his parts. He has a nice 2k budget, which is loose. He only games on it and surfs the web but he won't have to ever worry about games not maxing out for a good few years. So this is a sorta dream build for me, it's a high tier rig and something I've wanted to tackle. Here is the list... PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($249.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($169.99 @ NCIX US) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($67.50 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($67.50 @ Newegg) Storage: Intel 530 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($79.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB Twin Frozr Video Card ($579.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: NZXT Phantom 530 (Red) ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Cooler Master VSM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.99 @ Newegg) Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27.0" Monitor ($469.00 @ B&H) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($26.24 @ OutletPC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($26.24 @ OutletPC) Total: $2166.40 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-19 21:47 EST-0500 He doesn't know how to OC but he may learn or I'll do it for him so it's worth it in the long run I'd like a case that is easy to install an h100i in because it's my first time and I want to not have a disadvantage, so point me in the direction of a great case! As you can tell the general color scheme is red/black. 16GB ram is obviously OD but I'm going for as future proof as possible, this way he won't even have to think about more for years. I think this is a nice 750w PSU, I have a rosewill tachyon 750w and I like the 80+ platinum it has over the cooler master but I am sure it is still kick ass. I REALLY love this monitor, I have been wanting it for a pretty long time and plan on getting it myself eventually. I think the 980 will absolutely dominate 1440p games on ultra and it will for a while. I really hope the G-sync one comes to a lower price I am going to get the intel 4790k and msi gaming 7 at microcenter with their $40 off bundle if I can Okay so please give any suggestions or input, I'd really love it
-
SO I really want the 1440p PB278q, anywhere to find out if it will drop in price for black friday or at all for the holiday season?
-
I would do something like that but it's christmas, which means gifts so getting nothing is definitely not the best option
-
haha thanks, I always wonder "Why do I not see anyone answering me!?" than I facepalm and finally follow my post
-
Thanks, I am going to sell the 770, and get the 970, if I find myself with a surplus of $$ than I'll get the 980(dreaming). and EVENTUALLY get a pb278q 1440p

I originally planned to get a second Gigabyte 770 and a PB278Q 1440p monitor. Now that the 970 is out, I am really wondering if it will be that much better to get only 1 970 instead of 2 770's. Also will a second 970 do well enough on 1440p? I am also trying to see which 970 is the best one to get, I am thinking the Gigabyte 970 G1 but give me your opinion please
