  1. So after my pc started randomly restarting ( either motherboard or psu problem , abrupt power-off and restart ) I disconnected everything and connected my laptop to the monitor. When connected display power light lights up but then gives a no signal message. I thought it was a linux issue but it does the same under windows. I connected the laptop on my tv and it outputs to it normally. The monitor works when connected to pc via hdmi. The laptop is a dell g3 3779 with a gtx 1050 on it. The monitor is an AOC Q3279WG5B Right now I'm doing a clean install of Windows. Updating all drivers by hand, bios update. DDU all display drivers and then install them manually. If by any chance anybody can make an educated guess to what can be causing the issue I would appreciate the help. When I press win key + p and select extend displays. The screen of the laptop acts like the external monitor. It gets the resolution of the external monitor and becomes monitor 2. I really don't know what to do to get over this. Might try dvi to hdmi or dp to hdmi. Edit 1: So after tinkering with it for a little while I found out some things. I plugged the monitor via hdmi to dvi cable and it works ... but up to 1080p. When connected via hdmi the monitor is recognized in the device manager and nvidia control panel but still has no display. !! When set the windows display setting to extend monitors the laptop screen "turns into" the external display. !! I don't how how to explain that but it stops being the main monitor and goes into being the secondary and when I change the resolution or scaling for the external monitor they change on the laptop screen. This behavior is really weird. I'm off to buy a different hdmi cable and see if I have any luck with that. Help would still be appreciated. Edit 2: Still facing the issue. I recently started working from home and my company sent me another dell laptop. I experience the same behavior with the work laptop as well. Hoping somebody has faced a similar issue and could help.
  2. When I am on discord for example and listen to music at the same time, people can hear the music as well. Is it a software issue or is it more likely the front ports being faulty - interfearence or something?
  3. I have have created my own apis for different uni projects before , but this one professor asks for some web services to work with .NET web apps. He needs some oddly specific stuff like only working with visual studio and making .Net projects. Just looking up Web services for .NET apps just brings up tutorials to create web services etc. What I need is simple things like time conversion , currency conversion ,simple translators etc. A friend of mine sent me the ones he used last year. I will post the links here so you know what I am looking for cause I can't even figure out what to look for https://www.dataaccess.com/webservicesserver/numberconversion.wso http://webservices.daehosting.com/services/datesservice.wso http://services.aonaware.com/DictService/DictService.asmx I figured I could use any api since most of them return a json with results .
  4. So I got my hands on an old laptop , a friend gave it to me cause he did not to want to throw it in the trashcan. It is working about as you would expect from an old laptop with a dual core pentium and 2gb of ram. Since I have a LOT of ddr2 lying around I thought I would pimp it out so it would run 32bit mint like a boss. But it does post with anything more than 2 gb, either 1 or 2 sticks. I made sure the ram sticks were not conflicting. They had the same model number , frequency etc... Is it a motherboard limitation or a cpu one ? The model is Sony vaio PCG - 7y1m. Could I update the bios and be fine ? its pretty old , updating bios must be a nightmare. Also could a cpu swap solve that, it is socket p.
  5. Hello , I am planning to build a pc based on a refurbished Lenovo M82 MT, with an i5 3470s on it, 8 gb of ram. It will probably need a power supply upgrade at some point, but what I want to ask is , do these lenovo systems play well with amd gpus ? I think I have read somewhere that they won't even boot with an rx 4**-5** series gpu. Is that the case ? Should I just look for a 1060 instead of a 570 - 580 ?
  6. Hi I have been looking into some of the sff's dell and lenovo have to mod for a living room pc. The 3d gen i5's and i7's are still pretty good for gaming. which ones are good to mod and for example fit a vertical gpu in it. I bought a lenovo think centre for my father and saw it has enough space for some small graphics card if you remove the hdd and the cd player. It supports normal 24 pin psu cable , so a psu upgrade will not be a problem. It has a solid steel top panel that could be opened up and modded with some mesh for it to breathe. Does anybody have any experience with any of these oems?
  7. Hey! My friend switched from iphone to an Android device and cannot find a way to restore his Viber messages to his Android phone as it backs up to icloud and not Google drive. Any idea how to get the messages on his new device?
  8. I have been having some trouble with my mouse , and it looks like it is on my pc only. It is registering double or triple clicks with the left and middle click , opening 2-3 tabs on chrome sometimes for example , pausing videos etc. The thing is if I boot into linux there is no such problem. The mouse does not seem to be the problem since I plugged it in my laptop (linux) and my brothers computer and it does not have the same behavior . Apparently it is a driver issue , but the mouse does not have any driver I can install (generic gaming mouse had it as a gift some years ago). I reinstalled windows at some point when I bought an ssd still the same. Any suggestions apart from changing it ?
  9. I saw some videos recently of people replacing the stock cooler of amd's new cards with older ones from 2xx-3xx series. If anyone has to do that would be interesting to compile a list of coolers that can fit on it.
  10. If I can find a cpu to boot it with I think I'll go to an x470 board. The x470 carbon sits at 170 euros atm.
  11. Well I was looking at the tuf and the aorus elite which were recommended from a gamers nexus video these are both ~250 atm. But availability is not that good atm in Greece.
  12. At that price point I could get a an x570 it seems. The b450 carbon board would be good enough for the 3600 though right?
  13. have not thought about the cache at all. Another question . Since I do not see any real benefit of going with an x570 motherboard. Will for example an x470 Msi carbon or Asrock taichi have the ability to flash new version of bios on to it for the new chips to work without having a compatible cpu ?
