79wjd got a reaction from juhan in Do You really Need ECC RAM for a home NAS???
The bigger issue with not using ECC is that if the wrong bit of data gets corrupted (like part of the OS) you could lose the entire pool. For something like Windows server going without ECC isn't such a big deal, with ZFS (such as FreeNAS) going without ECC could result in the OS (which runs from ram) getting corrupted which could easily destroy ALL of your data.

Thats not not to say you're doomed if you're using non ECC memory. I ran my server off of 8gb of non ECC for about 6 months without any signs of a problem, but I was still at risk of losing everything.

I don’t disagree, but the Source 210 I already have is honestly “good enough”, it was just a thought that it might make sense to spend $70 or something on a nicer case as opposed to “wasting” $20 on grommets.

At $120-170, it’s not really worthwhile.
    Unfortunately that’s what i figured.

I don't think I'd bother with 6tb drives. It seems like too small of a bump and likely not "future proof" enough to account for when/if I ultimately update the rest of the array. 8TB would be my minimum and even then I've considered that if/when I decide to add the remaining drives to complete an actual z2 array that 8tb drives might seem like a silly option. Then again, paying a premium now for the off chance in the future is a bit more silly (especially since I had the same thought with these 4tb drives).

79wjd got a reaction from IAmAndre in Is 1080p really terrible for 27inch displays?
There's a difference between a TV and a monitor -- namely in the viewing distance. A monitor will typically be viewed from 1-3 feet away whereas a TV is going to be viewed from around 10+ feet away.

You can distinguish pixels of a 1080p 55" TV at anything under 7 feet. Alternatively, it's anything under 3 feet for a 24" monitor. (numbers based on average vision)
    https://designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-retina/

Personally, I wouldn't touch a 24" (let alone 27") 1080p monitor, or anything less than 4k if it wasn't for scaling issues and/or cost.

79wjd reacted to LAwLz in Now everyone is playing with cameras - Samsung galaxy S20 revealed.
Yeah, but it interferes less than having the screen be smaller with a bezel. Don't think of it as "losing" screen where the camera is. Think of it as gaining screen where the camera isn't.

How skinny jeans do you have? I have never had a problem with the camera module making it so that it is difficult to put it in my pocket. And having the camera be thicker so that there is no camera bump would interfere with it more.

    Source please.

That's bullshit. I am beginning to question if you live in the same universe as I do. The only time the camera bump is the first point of contact when dropped is if you drop it completely flat, with the back facing the ground. That almost never happens. With most drops the side or corner are the first point of contact.

I have done physical work with a phone in my pocket, and not once has the camera been the one who gets damaged.

I think you're dramatically overestimating how big the camera bump is. This is what it looks like from the side. No way in hell does the camera bump somehow make it a large issue where it is any more in danger of breaking than the rest of the phone.

I've been wondering something......What will PSUs look like in another 7 years? Will the P2/Prime/AX be considered "crap" (or just above crap since they are a few calibers better than the M12/S12 ever were).

E.g. what else could be added/tweaked on high end PSUs that already have protections on everything, and good regulation, temp ratings, etc... to make them so much better?

"Commercialized brands". Oh sorry, I didn't know you're a pleb that can buy Patek Philippe for 1.500.000€. Coz only those are still actually hand made. Even all those 200.000€ watches are all machined and then just assembled by hand. Patek is one of rare watchmakers where parts are actually individually forged for every watch. Of that specific kind that will cost 7 digits. The rest they machine just like anyone else. So yeah, you can cut that pretentious BS...

Apple is not even pretending it's some heritage based craft like old watchmakers. They are well aware it's just an electronic device, a gadget. I still don't see anything wrong with mentioning of machining processes and materials used. And bracelet swapping mechanism is so elegant I haven't seen anything like it with any other watch, not even with strap spring bars that have a quick release lever. G-Shocks are also all plastic, but they are super popular in sports and military. Because they are utilitarian. Just like Apple Watch. It has only been recently where they were trying "premium" materials like stainless steel and sapphire and cranking those prices up. I could justify almost 500€ for Apple Watch 5 with very little thinking. I couldn't for G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1 and I wanted it quite badly. And I have a resin version of it, atomic version with negative LCD display and resin bracelet. It's a great watch in proper terms of the word. I'd rather pay that much for another Steinhart, Certina or Seiko SAR series if I had to...

Most low-tier routers should have a QoS implementation. I can say with certainty that Asus routers allow you to control the various networks and types of traffic. Anything that can be flashed with DD-WRT should have the same/better capability too.

But as you pointed out, that point applies if they created a steam page; even then, it is still only a deterrence. The publisher can still decide that pulling the content is more beneficial than the punishment is hurtful.

Regardless, a publisher can very easily remain exclusive elsewhere and simply not advertise through Steam.

79wjd reacted to PocketNerd in Steam distribution policy prohibits Epic Games / Tim Sweeney from exclusivizing any Steam-marketed games
That clause (whether old or new) doesn't block exclusivity in any way, shape, or form. What it DOES do is ensure that developers and publishers actually commit to releasing on Steam once they make a page for their game.

Can we please stop finding any and every excuse to crap on EGS? It has major issues/flaws, sure, and it's fair to point out those specifically. But maybe just focus on that instead of getting irrational at every little thing?

In either case, it's not reasonable to thing it would actually give you wings, making that portion of the lawsuit more than a bit nonsensical.
Intel Atoms (silvermont, airmont, goldmont) would fall into that description as well.

On paper, and to this same easily misled individual, a quad core Pentium N laptop for a third of the cost of a traditional quad core i-series sounds like all the bang for less buck.
