You're still not paying for the iGPU (at least not relative to the non Xeon equivalent or the Xeon iGPU equivalent).
-
Yeah, no thanks. I very much need CPU power and have no interest in dealing with driver issues, an extra source of battery drain (or electricity costs in the case of large businesses), extra source of heat, an extra point of failure, or extra wasted space on a dGPU. Yep, only Intel is scum; AMD is a saint who is in the business of helping customers rather making money, unlike Intel. That's why they released a $1000 FX8320, told reviewers to handicap Intel when reviewing Ryzen, etc... AMD is no better than Intel, AMD has just been in a bad place and unable to make the same degree of aggressive moves that Intel has. And then companies like Intel would also be far less reluctant to invest heavily on R&D. Patents are critical to protect a company's profitability, which is critical if you want then investing heavily on research. Xeons exist. AMD CPUs exist. There are plenty of options with no iGPU.

Where i can find a new HDD for my early 2013 MacBook pro

For tasks like gaming, I'd take a 6700k over an 8400 any day; an 8600k vs. a 6700k would be a different story. Threads are fine for gaming, and the extra clock speed is certainly beneficial (assuming a powerful enough GPU). Raw cores is only more important if you happen to be doing something where there isn't a lot of downtime for cores to switch tasks.

Neither will work; pay for your own internet.

I wonder what things would look like if manufacturers were using the more efficient Ryzen -- Apple obviously couldn't do that because final cut would lose its major quicksync advantage, but everyone else could.

I'd very much so not want it to be 1". There is a very noticeable difference between the unibody MBP (.95") and the OG retina (.71"). The old retina was fine (and is what I have now and likely will continue to use for the next 5+ years), although I'd still take the thinner and lighter 2016 and later design.

That someone also cost them money by forcing them to attempt to patch the vulnerability and by costing them customers who don't want to pay for something that isn't crack proof. Again, you can argue the efficacy of DRM and the quality of Denuovos software all day, but that doesn't change the fact that this person did cause them damages.
-
I agree that DRM at the end of the day probably doesn't make much of a difference -- those who pirate still will and those who pirate also aren't particularly likely to ever buy most of the content even if pirating isn't an option. I truly do believe that, if anything, piracy is beneficial to the content owner since you (as the pirate) probably weren't going to pay for the content anyway, but if it's really good then you'll recommend it to others who might buy it. But that's all besides the point. The company that is selling the DRM still has a right to protect their work, and like it or not, having your DRM cracked and the game handed out is bad for business on multiple fronts.

It's almost like there's a reason that turbo boost exists rather than just making the base clock higher.

I haven't watched any of his videos in a while, but it was still pretty common the last time I did (November ish). This particular video was when someone let him borrow their 13" right after the release. He was also complaining about how cpu performance didn't improve much with the 2016 compared to 2015 Macs. Hes shown on numerous occasions that he knows about board repairs and then has a very rough and incomplete understanding of so much else that he talks about.
-
He also does have a tendency to bitch and complain without really knowing what's going on. Complaining about how the 2016 13" didn't have a quad core option and then raving about the XPS line (which also only had a dual core 13" at the time and for a year or so after that) in the same sentence comes to mind.

I'm moving into a relatively small apartment (living room is 13x17 -- bigger if you count the attached kitchen), and I'm looking to buy a new front channel, center voice, and sub. I already have an AVR and I plan to buy the Basx8 as the sub. I'm looking to spend around $500 in total ($300~ excluding the sub), although I'm willing to go a bit higher of there's a good enough reason. The reason I ask about the KC25 specifically is because it's currently on sale for pretty cheap. But is it any good and is there a good pair of matching speakers for the front?

2018 Macbook Pro Touchbar has NO Data Recovery Port!
79wjd replied to iamdarkyoshi's topic in Tech News
Which should be the expectation regardless of literally everything else. -
Or lowers voltages if they're higher than need be, or raises fan curves, or hell it could even be that the power delivery system wasnt splitting the load properly. There are a lot of softwares/firmware fixes that can be pushed that could alleviate the problem. Why not wait to see actual results before talking out of your ass.

Why people do not use the free PSU which comes with Conputer Case?
79wjd replied to Hiten Das's topic in Power Supplies
A good 80+ bronze PSU is perfectly good. Besides, efficiency isn't the reason not to use a case-PSU -- it would take YEARS for the cost of a PSU to outweigh the higher electric costs. -

Because those PSUs are garbage and are more likely to take out the entirety of your system. -
Very much so this. It doesn't excuse the throttling, and it's still an expensive upgrade that often leads to performance losses, but let's not pretend that it's a multi-thousand dollar upgrade. It's +$400 on the base model and +$300 on the higher end model. The higher end system (560x rather than 555x and 512gb rather than 256gb) with an i9 is $3100, the base system with an i9 is $2800.

So it's your 'family member's' wifi, and you're trying to bypass a security measure he put in place to either use the internet without his approval, or show him how bad it is to do what he's doing. In either case, it's a problem/illegal. It's absolutely not YOUR wifi. You only have permission to use it if the owner of it gives you permission, which you clearly don't have. Security is so shit, and yet you can't get on.
-
Tbh, that's not really the problem imo -- most cpu upgrades have historically been pretty shitty in terms of gains/dollar (or just in terms of gains in general). The problem to me is that the cooling isn't sufficient for the i7, so the i7 variant also throttles heavily (but still performs better than the i9 in certain cases). In fairness, I would prefer the Pro to be thinner and lighter; the Air never would have suited my needs as it was always under spec'd compared to the Pro. Mouse acceleration absolutely is a feature; it's just bad for things like gaming where you need to know, with absolute certainty, where the cursor is going to end up; in most other scenarios, it's useful to be able to shrink and grow the distance you have to move the mouse relative to the distance that the cursor moves.
