  1. It definitely seems like I'll be using a laptop eGPU in conjunction with my current monitor. Should I just use my existing 3080?
  2. Thats true, I hadn't even considered the impact of being mobile on the components themselves
  3. This is definitely weird, I've never seen anything like this before. Have you tried forcing a ram intensive task to see what it does?
  4. Hey guys I might be moving into a van or camper semi full time. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with actual desktop setups in campers/vans. Is a Desktop PC even feasible for something like this? Or should I just be looking at a laptop for the efficiency it brings. I already have a desktop with a 3080, so if I could keep it that'd be great! Maybe something like a battery backup would be in order to smooth out the spikes. (Also I would be plugged into an external outlet while gaming) Any insight is appreciated ^^
  5. Oh also, an unlocked multiplier would definitely help you with OC, but it'd just help with fine tuning really.
  6. It could also be a higher binned chip. Older Extreme core 2 duo/quad chips were hardly worth their price increase.
  7. Yeah I'm lucky, I only have whine between 20-40% load, as soon as I get to 50+ the whine goes away.
  8. The noise is related to resonance so actually pumping the power/clock rate might get rid of the coil whine(or at least make it less noticeable). Personally if it is really bad I'd actually recommend looking into a case with some sound deadening, because the only other option would be to isolate the component causing the issue and replacing it (or replacing the entire GPU) neither of which are super feasible right now.
  9. I know that certain components on GPU's are sealed with Epoxy/Wax and over time this can degrade or just dry up maybe? You can't change the resonant frequencies without altering the electrical properties of the coil. So technically all they can do is muffle the sound. With heat and the age of the card it could just be that some of this muffling material has been damaged. Personally unless you can see arcs, or if the noise gets really loud I wouldn't worry about it.
  10. I had the same issue on my 2080 TI. I've been seeing this error a lot more recently so I'm starting to think this could possibly be something driver related. In my case the issue still persisted with one stick of ram, no overclock, and a fresh install. It even gave me this BSOD while I was installing windows. Leading me to believe this is a hardware issue. I replaced my GPU and the issue persisted so I will most likely end up RMA'ing it anyway.
  11. Personally I would not worry about this. Windows does a pretty good job of RAM management, and with 16 GB of ram you shouldn't notice any slow-downs in most applications. There are certain services you can disable to free up some RAM, but the difference is hardly noticeable.
  12. Your motherboard *might* be able to control the RGB if you plug the RGB directly into an RGB header. But otherwise I try to stay away from RGB, or things that require hefty software in order to run properly. As for why COD is crashing it's hard to say if it doesn't give you any codes. You could try uninstalling/cleaning your drivers with DDU and then reinstalling them to see if the issue persists.
  13. Do you notice really low clocks or high temps on the CPU when you were playing CSGO? If you were using a 980 then your PSU wouldn't be the problem.
  14. Personally I've never even seen anything like this happening, it definitely makes me miss our old CRT monitors. Do you know if there is a way to install firmware from a USB or something?
