2) It looks like it's to do with distilling mixtures with different boiling points by way of how high they rise in the chamber, things with lower boiling points naturally going higher up where it's cooler. I'm 14 and I've never learned this before but this will probably pop up in my Honors Biology next year. (I'll be a freshman in September can't wait)

/s please don't do that. I think it's the digitizer. Maybe try to find a replacement? Or maybe the one you have just needs to get reseated. A hard hit (like you said) might help. It may do more damage than good though so be careful

Just a suggestion after the picture of the new office / warehouse.
 
This may be completely out of the question and cause you more headaches but would one be able to use changeable background drops ( think large printed blinds... ) .
That would enable presenters to use the same space for multiple sets. A direct result would be reduced equipment like lighting rigs as it is a single set not multiple ones.
 
Anyway a quick render of what I had in my head is attached, please feel free to jump in with improvements.

1. Have him disassemble and repeat, making sure to apply a single strip on the gpu.
2. MAKE SURE he put the thermal pads back on.
(also make sure nothing broke / cracked)
3. MAKE SURE the fan is plugged correctly into the header.
4. Reassemble the cooler to the PCB and do it slowly, corner across.
5. Make sure the device manager is actually detecting the GPU, as are drivers.

I'd say you can get used to it, especially if the laser mouse is more comfortable to use. 
 
I would first worry about how comfortable it is to use and then worry about the internals. Afterall, if it's not comfortable to use then it doesn't matter how good the internals are. 

Waiting, playing games, and watching YouTube. Now that I visited and found out what happened, I'm scanning for viruses and will only run LTT in a Xubuntu VM.
 

As a GTX 970 owner, I think that they should offer refunds to any and all users, and offer an incentive to users whom choose to keep their cards (maybe a free game that wouldn't conflict with the Ubisoft promo).
