mattias1172 got a reaction from polke45 in Sli 780ti problems
Rather than spending hours trying to troubleshoot and fix the problem, I figured i would post here firs and see if anyone has run into this issue before and has a quick fix. I recently upgraded my rig from cfire 280x to sli 780ti. When running 3dmark 11, the xfire 280xs got about 6550 on the extreme test. When I benchmarked a single 780ti, I got about 5500-6000 which is what I was expecting. When I pt the second card in, enabled sli in nvidia control panel, I got roughly the same results (sometimes a little, less sometimes a little more) as the single 780ti. Now I realize it doesn't scale 2x, 3x, etc as you put gpus in, but I should at least be scoring higher than the 280x xfire, not below it. I've also noticed less than expected results in bf4 with the cards. When it auto selects graphic settings, it chooses medium and when I try to bring the graphics up to ultra, gameplay gets very laggy. I have not checked what the actual fps is but it feels like less than 25. With two 780tis, I should easily be able to play on ultra with above 60fps. I game at 1080p with only 60hz refresh (waiting for some better gsync monitors to come of before upgrading) and in my rig I got an i7 4930k, Asus rampage iv black edition motherboard, windows 8.1 64bit, the latest nvidia drivers, uninstalled the amd drivers, and as far as I can tell, have the gpus in the correct pcie slots (1 and 3). The 780tis I'm using are evga dual classified acx cards. I can't figure out what else I might be doing wrong.

Took forever for the nice weather to get here, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. (Yes, that's an Audi RS7 in the background)

So you're one of those people that think 0-60 is all that matters. The tundra doesn't stand a chance. The Ram will absolutely destroy it in any type of competition there is. The Ram is more robust, can tow more, haul more, will last longer, has more hp, more torque, it has a real transmission that can hold up under constant 1000 ft/lb torque. There is absolutely no reason to think the tundra is better under any circumstance.

Thanks for the info.  Just curious, where do people make the images when designing a custom loop? Like this:

A second monitor is something I've been looking to do for a while. My current gpu setup isn't strong enough for much above 1080p so I am thinking of upgrading my gpu to a 290x and either getting a 4k monitor now downscaling graphics and settings until I can afford another 290x or getting a 2k or 3k monitor and using native resolution. And as a side note, I actually do donate to charity both in form of money as well as time. Twice a week at two different non profit organizations. So I actually respect that idea.

thanks for the much appreciated advice.  Without going overboard, are there any cool little items/gadgets that would go great with this setup? I know on one video i saw someone connect their headphone jac to their amp by screwing into some sort of gold piece then inserting it into the amp.  Stuff like that thats kinda cool.  It never ceases to amuse me.

Defiantly go for the 870m model. The 860m is very underpowered. But DO NOT fall victim to the 6gb VRAM version. It performs in the exact same way as the 3gb version since the gpu doesn't have enough memory bandwith (plus a very other reasons) to capitalize on the extra VRAM. I'm actually looking at the msi gs60 pro 3k version so I've done a good amount of research on the gs60's and some on the 70's

Just thought you may like to know, this is from game-debate.com comparison between the 870m and the 860m. It's there verdict and las minute thoughts on the 870m. http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2212&gid2=2210&compare=geforce-gtx-860m-2gb-v2-vs-geforce-gtx-870m-6gb
"GeForce GTX 870M 6GB is variant of the high-end mobile graphics card - GeForce GTX 870M 3GB.
In this edition, the frame buffer was doubled to 6GB which will not boost its performance and can be addressed as a gimmick - marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.
Thus, its performance is exactly like the 3GB variant.
GeForce GTX 870M 6GB will only be seen on large notebooks and it needs to be paired with 8GB of RAM and a Strong Quad Core. The card is suited for 1080p and even the most demanding games should run fluently at high settings."
